hi
this is no silly question in any way... staying on the computer for long hours has a lot of effect on the eyes, just like watching television but the main difference is that the tv is far away from you and the computer screen is much closer to you and it effects more! computer screens being situated right in front of you can cause your eyes to settle to more near sightedness ... you concentrate on the monitor in front of you and that makes your retina to focus the near screen and that for hours isn't good at all, you start, sometimes ppl need to wear glasses for such cases where they get near sightedness! and yeah it strains your eyes too, one has to be more careful, he/she needs to take break from the computer and not sit on it continously for hours...

Hi joezon50,
Too much stay on monitor can blur our eyes.. I know that my eyes are tired but i keep on surfing the net... Sometimes i felt dizzy. I know its very harm...
Looking at the glare from a computer monitor (or anything like a television, gaming system, etc.) for too long can cause eye strain and headaches. Some ways to solve that are to adjust the type size on your computer so that it is most comfortable for you to read, make sure the screen is not too bright or too dim for your eyes, take breaks once in a while, close your eyes for a moment, and be sure you are blinking properly rather than forgetting to (sounds weird, yes, but many people do not blink properly when they are reading or watching television or something like that)..... I noted that in some companies and banks there will be a protective screen placed in front of the monitor... Not only eye, sitting in front of computer also induces headahe, backache and so on... But we cant help it.. We use internet so much now a days. But still try to get off when irritation starts...
Then according to me,
I stay too long on my computer and I feel the same way to.. I just can't stop using my computer because I am addicted. I have tons to do with my pc and I love.. But in return my eyes seems to be hurting so I just relax my eyes time to time when using it...
Do you know what actually happening when we work on computer
When we work on a computer screen, our eyes and muscles undergo some physical and physiological changes... Our blinking rate drastically reduces as we are engrossed in the screen and forgot to blink... This causes the tear film on our eyes to break up and induce a burning and gritty sensation eventually leading to red swollen eyes... Since the distance between our eyes and the computer screen is usually very less, our eyes have exert extra effort and "accommodate" so as to focus on the object on the screen... Doing this for a prolonged period without a break leads to fatigue, headache and eye strain... Not only eyes our work-place ergonomics also determines our posture and the onset or related problems like spondylitis and back pains...
There is another option also, change CRT monitor to TFT...
Anyway its too much... I am concluding my post... Its look too huge... Thank you for giving me a chance to respond a very attractive topic... See you friend... Thank you...

yeah. on continuously watching obviously any bright object will strain our eyes. working on the computer for long time will also result in the same. working 3 to 4 hours really strains eyes lot and lot, in order to decrease this stress give regular intervals during your work and set the brightness levels of your monitor according the light in your room which helps alot to our eyes

Hey there! I believe that using the computer for 3-4 hours straight will not only affect your eyes, but also the rest of your body. Your eyes will obviously get strained for staring at the computer monitor for that long. If you don't have proper posture while sitting in front of your computer, your back and legs will start hurting. If you type wrong or have a bad keyboard, it's possible to get the carpal tunnel syndrome. It's best that after ever hour, you take a break and stand up and stretch and walk around so that your body doesn't get to stressed from prolonged computer usage.
