you ever gave your kids or received as a child.
I've emptied my daughter's room of all her toys twice for a few days each time. i think that was the worst punishment she ever received.

I usually was just sent to my room and to sit at my desk for a while, and my parents would check up on me all the time so i couldn't do anything or move. There would be times where I'd have to get ready for bed as soon as i got home from school, or by 3 if i wasn't in school. This meant bath/showering, pajamas, bathrobe and slippers on for the night. That doesn't seem terrible, but it was always embarrassing to be in pjs in the early afternoon, especially if family was over, or if my brother had friends over. So, if i was on punishment like this, i couldn't watch tv, or play video games, or use the computer, i was to sit at either the dining room table or my desk and do homework. The most i could do other than that was read a book.

I think the worse things my parents never did to me really was the whole spanking thing. When they tried to ground me or take things away from me I was always really smart in how to get it back before the end of the night was over.
Like the whole go to your room and stay there for the rest of the night - when dinner came around I would refuse to eat because I couldn't leave me room and I wasn't suppose to eat in my room.
Or when they took the phone away - if a relative would call that I was suppose to talk to or if they needed me to answer it I would refuse to until I got the privilege back.
Plus with my parents once I bought my own cellphone and my own computer they refused to take them away because they said it was my possession and I paid for them so they didn't have the right. Now if they wanted to turn off the internet they could but really that was more a hassle to them than trying to punish me.

Hi poppoppop,
I let my kids(10 and 6 yrs old) sit in the corner, and for how long would depend on the severity of the offense. That's the harshest punishment they got from me and my husband.
I tell my kids they're going to sleep outside the house if they don't do what I want them to do like washing up before going to bed, fixing their beds, failing to pack away their toys after playing, or when I tell them to stop fighting. It hasn't happened yet as they immediately oblige when I say my magic line. I just hope they don't come to the point when they would test if I'll really let them sleep outside, coz I think I can't.

I've spanked my kids before...not hard, just a pop on the booty. And I have also taken their toys away. Once, when I wanted to get their rooms cleaned out, I bought them both small toy buckets, told them that they could keep enough toys to fit in their boxes, and we donated the rest to kids less fortunate. I know they hated me for it, but their playing was interfering with school, and they needed to learn that toys aren't everything. I have never let them attain so many toys at once again, and I just got their report cards today, and both have improved!
