I think there are many superstitions in every country.
For example,in america, there is a superstition which says that if a person sneeze, then his soul can escape from his body,so we have to ask God to bless.
In china, there is also a superstitious which says that if we talk about the ghosts in the Spring Festival, then we will have bad luck in the late future, but actually ,I don't care all about these things.
Well,my friends, are you a superstitious person, and do you know some superstitions in your country ?

It would be easy to say that I am not, but everyone is in one way or another.
Even when we think we aren't superstitious, we might find ourselves doing or saying things that are without even noticing.
In my country, like in all the others, there are plenty of superstitions. But most of them I have found in others places as well. And even though I usually say I am not superstitious, I find myself being upset because I broke a mirror or something like that.
We all are. Some more than others :)

Oh yes. Some people do take their superstitions to an extreme and even allow them to rule their lifes.
I agree with you that those will be the ones more or less labeled as superstitious whereas most people will just be affected by superstitions very superficially.

Agree with you, sometimes we think we are not superstitious, but in some way, it is just because we are not aware of it.
But I think the real superstitious people should be those who unduly believe in those superstitions.
Superstitions are part of our culture, we are all affected by them, the diffirence is just the extent of the effect. :)
Thanks for sharing, have a nice day.

I don't really think I'm a superstitious person but avoid walking under ladders and breaking mirrors.
I always thought the sneezing thing was German - going to have to research that I may be confused.

Actually, I think many countries have some mutual superstitions, like the black cat thing.
I heard too that,in america, there is a superstition that breaking mirrors may bring you bad luck for the next seven years, but actually I had done that for many times in my life, but it seemed that there were actually no obvious bad things happened to me since then, so I am not so worried about that, maybe it was just beacause i was in china . lol

You are right, there are superstitions in every country. I am a superstitious person sometimes....frankly speaking, it really depends on my mood at that time which determines my superstitions level.
In India, there are many such superstitions. For Example: If a cat crosses your way when you are out for an important work, the work won't happen and they say in such a case, you have to walk back ten steps and then resume your path.
In few West African countries, I have seen many superstitions. For example: Some tribal people believe that if rain and sun appear together in the sky, its not good for the people born on that day.
Different counties have different beliefs; however I think that today, the world has become too practical and busy and generally people have no time to think about such things....Cheers...

am not a superstitious person but i like reading feng shui because some of the things they impart there are common sense that had just been overshadowed by a lot of facts. so in hindsight, i may appear superstitious.

Haha,I think feng shui is from china, but to be very honest,I am not interested in that. But sometimes ,it looks like that,if we don't believe it,it is nothing,on the contrary,if we believe it ,then it works.Of course ,I just say it looks like that, actually I don't think so. lol
Anyway,I think it doesn't really matter whether someone are superstitious or not,it doesn't no harm if you are not addicted to it very much.
And thanks for sharing ,friend, have a nice day, wish you good fortune.

I would say to a certain extent, yes I am a superstitious person. Where things related to the supernatural are concerned, it's best to be aware of them but of course not be too obsessed with them. For instance, when say a family member is going on a trip, it would be inauspicious to be speaking of plane disasters and the likes.
In my country, even for us youngsters, we believe in things like when your eyelids start ticking, it means something is going to happen, and whether that happening is good or bad, it depends on which side of your eyelid is ticking. Left is bad, right is good. Or the most common one is "see a coin, pick it up, all day long you will have good luck". Another birthday superstition is that when the birthday girl/guy passes the slice of cake to you, you shouldn't pass it to someone else. or if you do not eat the cake, it is not good for the birthday girl/guy. These are just few superstitions that I'm aware of.
I think self-fulfilling prophecies have a huge part to play in this superstition issue. When subconsciously, something "bad" happens, like a black cat just innocently crosses your path, it is considered a bad omen, and you would probably be in a foul mood the rest of the day, thinking something bad is going to happen. Foul moods itself may probably lead to something bad inevitably, so is that considered the unfortunate occurrence caused by the black cat?
Just being thoughtful*~ :)

There are many superstitious people in my county Nepal too. I think here more than 90 % people or more are superstitious people. Here many people are uneducated and believe in superstitions. I am not superstitious person and i think these things are very stupid ones. I know many superstitions in my country out of which here are some..
In our country if someone gets leprosy then people here think these as the curse of god. And when some one is ill or sick they go to dhami and jhakris(stupid superstitious doctors). They are the reason of many deaths. And people believe in witch here. If people got some black spot in their body they think they are attacked by witch. And people believe in god more than they should. If people are crossed by black cat and if eyes are flicking they say something bad is gonna happen....

Yes,some superstitious are very ridiculous , we really don't have to take them seriously. If we all bebieve in those things, the world would be going crazy. :)
Maybe there is some thing that science can't explain, but I think it is really nothing to do with the superstitions.
Well,thanks for sharing friend,have a nice day.

I am not a superstitious person, even my family I mean my whole family. For us things happen for a reason, it is destined to happen for us to realized something and learned from it. There are lots of superstition I remember, one is when you see a black cat it mean there is bad things that will happen to you or one or your family, this is not true. Black cat are just black cat, it has nothing to do on anything that will happen to us. Another , when we are about to eat and a spoon will drop, we will be expecting a girl visitor and when it is fork a boy or a man. Another is when someone is leaving and we are dining or eating we must rotate our plates so that anyone who is leaving have the safe journey. There are many superstition but we don't believe in that because for if we continue to believe in something like that it can control us forever, it will avoid us when it comes to our decisions to take. Everything happens for a reason.

I think superstitions are very deeply etched into our subconscious minds from our ancestors. Even those people I know who say we are not superstitious, often won't walk under a ladder, for instance. They say that they are not superstitious, but why take the chance! Me? I reserve judgement. I don't like to think I am superstitious, but I often wonder if a see just one magpie! - Derek

Hello fishkingback , I have to say I'm somewhat a superstitious person. Goes back to what my grandmother taught me. I am a Native American and my people told stories to the younger ones.I remember all what my grandparents taught me. Our eldest family member passed away at 96 years of age which was just last year. The people she knew like Yellow wolf (Hemene Moxmox in my native language)...it was just amazing what and who she knew.so yes I'm smewhat superstitious.

No way. I am not superstitious in any way. However, there are many superstitions in America. Especially the bad luck ones: break a mirror and you'll have seven years' back luck, walk under a ladder and you'll have bad luck, if a black cat crosses your path you'll have bad luck...it is really rather ridiculous, in my opinion.
I am a scientist, and superstition simply has no scientific base. It is based on old wives' tales and paranoia, one of which I find amusing, and the other of which I can't stand.
But, as with my stance on pretty much everything else, if others are superstitious, more power to them. As long as it isn't hurting anyone else, to each their own. There is no harm in superstitions unless you let them control your life. Then you are only harming yourself.

i am not a superstitious person but sometimes strange happenings want to make look superstituous, some things which are considered by some many people to be untrue are actually real, in south africa here some people do believe that their fate is tied to destiny and they cannot do anything outside their destinies, i am skeptical about this though

I am not so superstitious person in fact, but some people around me are. For example, when I sneeze, some people will say some body is missing me, this is good. And sometimes it means some body scold you on the back, that really bad. And I have a dad who is a stone, that sounds so weird, but it is true, it means good luck.

I am not a really superstitious person at all. I do think about some of them in some situations though. I try not to let it overpower me though, where it is an actual true belief.

no i'm not...although here in our country Philippines there's a lot of superstitions!
like they say if you are getting married you should not wear your wedding dress the day before the wedding because if you do, the wedding will be off...
they say that if you see a black cat crossing on your way...you should not continue going there coz something bad might happen...
they say that if something broken in your wedding reception or wedding day, it will bring bad luck...and so many others...
i don't believe on those coz i remember that before my wedding day, i wear my wedding gown on that day before just to see if it has a good fit on me...and the superstition is not right coz our wedding still go on and it is one of the best day of my life!
i think superstitions are just old beliefs that don't have any basis and proofs...
have a nice day!

in china, whether young or old people don't like the digital 4,because it pronounce in chinese similar means "die";well, some digital like 6 and 8 which means good luck and wealth is very popular. for example , when we buy the mobilephone number, most people avoid to chose the number that contain 4 eventhough this kind of numbers are much cheaper.while, the numbers contains 6 and 8 are very popular and expensive.
i am not superstitious. i don't belive 4 can take bad luck of something. but i don't like 4. maybe because 4 sounds not comfortable and always make people feel strange.i think maybe this is people's nature
