hello there everybody!!! a few days ago i took the time to clean and rearrange my closet and i found out that there are a lot of clothes that i don't used anymore. i separated it and showed it to my mother. i ask her what i should do with it? throw it? or make it into rugs?but she said, that let us get it to our relatives in the province it would be useful for them. or we could give it to others who are less fortunate. or to those who have experienced calamities.
i see the point of my mother and i will gladly give it to those who are in need. how about you, what would you do with your old stuff?

yeah, i once rummaged through my clothes and sorted the ones that i dont really wear anymore. i placed them in plastic bags and whenever beggars come to our house, we give them some of the shirts and pants. sometimes we include slippers too. hehehe ^_^
my sister also has an activity in their school that assigns them to bring old clothes and canned goods/noodles to give to the less fortunate. so yeah, one in a while. ^_^
PS. dont forget to rate and comment! thanks! ^_^
happy MYLOTTING! =)

I"m actually going to try to rummage sale it. As we are done having kids and as they grow I'm pricing things to hopefully have a rummage in fall. Whatever is left I will give to friends and then either freecycle it or donate to Salvation Army. I don't believe in GoodWill stores, they price gouge people for used items and I feel Salvation Army does more for the people in our area & sell the items more reasonably.

And Salvation Army proved themselves again as a meat packing plant went up in flames yesterday and the city was evacuated they helped take care of people who were displaced til the all clear was given.

Hello bhabytart, an interesting user name for sure, there are several things people can do with their used clothes they no longer wear, and I believe it depends on circumstances. First, if you need money yourself, you could sell them at a local market, or have a garage sale at home, but if you are not short of funds, and have poor relatives, you could pass them onto them, or you could donate them to chaties like the Red Cross or other good ones. We usually give our used clothes to her poor relatives in Noeth Thailand. However if we aren't going north for some time, we donate them to various charities.

Sorting is a great idea that I never though about. You can always sort your stuff so that when giving it away it is easily found.

Yes I used to give my old clothes to poor and needy as I never use them once again. But when it comes for articles like old PC and other electronics gadgets, I use to sell them. Hence it depends upon the thing that i going to give. Usually I never thrash away things. Either I give them to poor and needy, else I would sell it for a cheaper rate/rates. That is my habit of disposing the old things at my home.

Hi, ya i think you and your mum are doing it correctly. For those old stuffs, it would be best to give or donate it to those who may need it, such as charity organizations or maybe your relatives or neighbours who may like it (the things has better to be still in good condition). I'm sure they'll be more than happy to accept it, and it is a kind thing to do. Otherwise, if those old stuff are really too old and cannot be used or given to someone, maybe you can take it to those recycling area, where they can process it and use it to make other things. To dump or just throwing those things away will be just a waste, and it may not be so environment-friendly.
For those old stuff which i can't use but it is still meaningful to me, i think i would prefer to keep it, rather than to throw it away.

I always remember that someone is worse off than me SOMEWHERE and could use that protection. So if it's no completely worn out, I'll donate my old clothes through Vietnam Vets (since they picked up at my old house) or take it to Goodwill. And if it doesn't fit, I'll make sure to donate it...only if the article of clothing is in complete rags will I trash it.
My mother used to take my father's old underwear and use it for cleaning--my sister and I drew the line at using his briefs so my mom used them for mopping the floors; we used his undershirts to dust all the wood in the house. I don't have a man at home to use his old underwear, nor any real wood to polish anymore. I never thought of trying to make a rag rug from my old t-shirts (my daughter usually takes them).

My mom grew up quite poor, and I believe she learned this trick from HER mother. Of course my grandpop wore boxers, but still...if it was my husband I could handle that. But my father (or grandfather)? Ummm, no, it's too creepy!

I tend to save things to have a garage sale every couple years - if its usable and in good condition. Anything broken or unusable gets thrown away or recycled. However clothing is the exception I make quilts out of clothing that is not wearable/repairable anymore (cut the stains out) If its still wearable and i no longer fit it i offer it to friends/family and if they dont want it i take it into the local thrift mission.

hello there...wow!!! you surely make the most of whatever things you have.... thats nice!hope other people will do this also rather than just throwing their stuff immediately to the trash.maybe they should try to compute on the things that they are throwing so they will know how much money they are wasting.. thank you for the comment... have a nice day...

I recently been cleaning too and came up with a lot of stuff. Im planning to have garage sales. I hate the places like Goodwill. Goodwill takes stuff they get for free and sells it at high prices. Somtines you can find it for new at the prices they set. They have such high prices that are just ludichrist. Im near Denver, Co. here we have a place here called "the gathering". They give away clothes to women and children. They also have many phones for women to use in finding jobs. They also serve breakfast and lunch to women and children. Thats what i call helping. Maybe you can find a place in your community that is like that.

I'm not exactly defending them, because there are a lot of things I don't agree with, but I have to say that Goodwill does not sell things for high prices. The prices are quite affordable and I know of many people that are able to have many things from clothes, to furniture because of Goodwill.
They couldn't just be giving things away, of course. They have to pay the people in the stores and the rent in the stores.
Moreover, many people still feel better - in the sense that they still feel they have some control in their lives and keep some pride even when things are rough - when they are able to buy something.
I am not, in any way, putting down the place you are talking about. But I have to say that Goodwill does not sell things at high prices.

I doubt Goodwill will change they've been doing this for many years.
But im saying if you dont want to bother with having garage sales you should look for a place that really gives stuff away. Or if you have a car you could go to a shelter and hand the stuff out to homeless people yourself.
I used to sell stuff at a local flea market so a lot of the stuff i have to sell is new. What i dont sell at the garage sale i will donate the used stuff but keep the new stuff and continue to sell online.

All of mine is offered first to family then goes to charity, with modern fabrics things last forever and if you can afford to you buy new stuff at least once in a while. If I don't wear it for a year I send it away. But I don't need much more then jeans and T-shirts

hello there... hmmm... that is right. i think it is ok to spend on clothes that is a bit expensive that you know will last longer than the usual clothes you buy.
you buy cheaper clothes then it is easily torn or worn out then you buy again. so it is the same as the expensive clothes.which is now cheaper? thank you for the comment. have a nice day...

I always donate my clothing or other stuff to charities that go around every month to pick up. I couldn't see throwing away a decent pair of jean or a sweater in good condition. That would be a sin.

I love shopping for all sorts of things. That is why I always have to clean out my closet or cabinet every six months. When I do, I usually give away my old clothes to my younger relatives, especially the branded ones. Then they will be the ones to decide if they want the clothes or not. If they don't want the clothes, they return these to me. I then donate these clothes to several charities.

Well, it depends on the item. If the item still looks quite new, or still have its use, I will usually sell it away to others as second hand item. For clothes, I may either sell them away to the rag-and-bone man for those which look older. For those which looks newer, I will give them away to people I know. If people don't want, I will sell them to the rag-and-bone man too.

We donate most of our stuff to Goodwill. We just don't have the time or patience for yard sales or garage sales.
First we try to give it away to someone we know could use it..then we donate.

Hi bhabytart! I try to see how bad the condition is of the
stuff that I am getting rid of first! Most of the time by
the time that I am ready to get rid of something, especially
clothing it is ready for the rag pile and unfortunately that
is where it ends up! If I do have something that I do feel
is in good enough condition for someone to still get use out
of I give it to one of the good will boxes in the neighborhood
where I live! But, sadly this doesn't happen very often! I
wear my clothes totally to the point where they are only
good for the rag bag! I'm not sure what that says about me,
but it is the truth! I hate throwing things out!

As most of you, I also donate my old stuff to those who in need. I like to vist the flee market, which are rarely found here. But the other day, I happened to come across a flee market organized by the young mother club, called Liba.com. There I saw many things from toddlers and kids. Exchange of useful stuff is also a good way of maximize the value.

Hi bhabytart,
For the clothes and shoes, I give them away to relatives who are interested, or give them to charities - there are so many charities here and you can just choose. For the other stuff, I sell them at junkshop, those that are no longer usable or recyclable are the ones that go the trash. They say there's money in your trash, that's pretty much true here in my country. Actually the biggest mall chain here participates actively in this endeavor - with the end purpose of saving the planet. By doing it you not only helpthe environment, but you also get to turn your trash into cash.

Hi there,
I'd definitely donate it. It really makes you feel good to do it.
All you have to do is find the yellow pages and find a cause
you believe in and just donate your old stuff to them.
