I really don't have much belief in the meaning of dreams based on my own dreams. I don't know what the official meaning of lucid dreaming is, but for me it is something I do all the time. It is when I become partly awake during a dream and take control or partial control of the dream and continue it from where it started to somewhere else. Sometimes I will barely remember it because I don't wake up and other times I will remeber it better for awhile, anyway, because I become almost awake or close to fully awake and continue it then.

on the basic level, dreaming about teeth falling out probably means you're anxious about something. your dreams about people dying are probably part of the same thing, try not to get worried about all of this. i too sometimes have lucid dreaming (i.e.you know you're dreaming) and have never been sure what to do - you can direct your dream to anything you need to sort out or just to have a pleasant experience. i know there is more to it than that but haven't figured it out yet...

I don't believe in the general meanings assigned to various incidents that are put in the best-selling (or even the worst-selling) "dream dictionaries." Though there may be archetypal symbols according to one's culture, there are too many variations in people, especially in their life experiences, to give just a one-size-fits-all interpretation of each incident.
For example, I had a dream when I was 17 that I remember every single detail still (I'm over 50 now) because it is such an epic story, and I have meditated on it occasionally ever since. It is Response #2 in this discussion: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1690630.aspx . For me, I believe it was expressing the alternative religions I was looking at at the time (paganism and witchcraft being the most fascinating to me) was leading me to a bad place. But at the same time I had strong misgivings about Christianity, at least the popular modern versions of it.
It's been a while since I did lucid dreaming. It is when you realize while you are experiencing the dream, that it is actually a dream. The last few times I did it, I was experiencing a situation I didn't want, and so I was able to just lift my arms and fly away. I was able to do that during that period once I achieved that state. Unfortunately with the few nightmares I had when I did that, my brain would rewind the tape and put me right back where I was. I remember doing this four times one night, each time being put right back where we left off. It was like my self was telling me, "You ARE going to experience this ..." And I woke up exhausted.
So, for me, it's purpose isn't to escape nightmares. I have done it when I was not having a nightmare, and it is a bit fun to do.

How weird apgh, I too also often dream about my teeth falling out which is particularly unpleasant and not anything I actually give any thought to in normal daily life. I have no idea what it means. A frequent dream I used to have which has now stopped was being totally unprepared for exams which I never was, this one continued many years after exams were a thing of the past.
P.S. Please don't take offence but you used the word 'dose' 5 times when you actually meant to write 'does'.

Hello :) I see one responder has explained this very well. I do believe our dreams have meaning. I, too, have drempt about my teeth falling out or about a loved one dying, which did not come true, thank God. I believe our dreams are the minds way of trying to cope with something we're worried about or sometimes we dream of someone we're missing.
The actual dream can mean something else totally, though.

I do believe in dream meanings, to an extent. I also believe that sometimes a dream is just a dream.
Losing your teeth is supposed to represent a loss of control, if I remember correctly. Repeat dreams, in my opinion, just means that you haven't fully processed something and you need to revisit it again. Your brain isn't ready to let it go yet.
I haven't tried lucid dreaming. That's when you are awake, right? I reserve my dreaming for when I'm sleeping and my non-dreaming for the daytime, when I am focused on my responsibilities. I don't see the point of lucid dreaming.
