Conversation While I Was Working

I work at a recreational complex. While working one day last week a customer asked me where she could go to have her eye looked at since it was swollen. I explained the location of the closest urgent care facility and hospital. She told me she had a wedding that night, swollen eye and her false tooth fell out. This is alot more than I really needed to know. Ok, so she explains about the tooth. Said she Superglued the tooth into her gum but it didn't hold. I explained there are toxins in the glue that might cause problems. Said she would go come and read the label. This was an adult and I would think she should know that Superglue is not safe to place in the mouth. Have you ever heard of this kind of thing happening? I didn't know whether to laugh at her stupidity or feel sorry for someone lame enough to try this idea. In the end, I felt sorry for her.

Swollen Eye and missing tooth, I would be worried that she had gotten beaten-up by someone and I would be looking to see if she had a possible concussion (no idea how to spell it). Our Urgent care and most DRs. are useless for eyes, we send them to Eye care for the Adirondacks with a team of eye specialists and dentist for the tooth, emergency room if she had a concussion would supercede all of the above. I don't want a regular Dr. near my eyes and most of them don't want to be near them anyway. Yes, someone on the superglue package, it probably says not to use on the human body, I know it says no contact with skin, but it's hard on a small package to provide for every contingency.

The swollen eye was on the right and the missing tooth was on the left. She didn't look as though she had been beaten up. She told me that she had been in a horrible car accident and broke the eye socket and bones below her eye. The eye looked swollen as a result of an infection. No bruising. I could feel her pain and this was a total stranger. Brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for responding.

In a car accident. Refuse treatment? Not go to an emergency room? Sounds really, really fishy to me. Had a broken eye socket and missing tooth, but she put super-glue on and had to have you tell her to go to Urgent Care. No ambulance when she was in the accident called for? Did she refuse one due to lack of insurance? Don't people have accident insurance there? None of this adds up to me at all. A hit hard enough to break an eye socket seems like she could have a concussion to me. How did she know her eye socket was broken if she hadn't had an x-ray? Was it compound and seeable? Things must be really, really different where you live. Unless she refused treatment after the car accident, she should have been referred by the emergency room to the appropriate people.

Using Superglue to keep a tooth in? To me that sounds quite dangerous Health wise for sure. It could end up causing a lot of problems I would thing, especially since I am sure the container says "Do Not Inhale" the fumes. I guess some people just never really think, but hopefully this did not become too Big of a deal for her as well.

God what a woman to use glue to keep teeth in place. Probably going to the dentist would have been unaffordable to her[I have heard that you pay through your nose to check your teeth in the US. That may have been a reason Carolbee. She may have been strapped for cash.

lol last week i went to but fish for my cats and i heard a woman asking a sales person if she can freeze fish. sales person said that the fish wasn't frozen prior to being sold, woman took it as "fish can't be frozen" sales person had to explain that if fish hasn't been frozen before it can be frozen. then woman started asking how long it can stay frozen without getting spoiled.
there are a lot of dumb people around lol...

Hasn't she ever heard of denture paste? This woman must be really dumb. Swollen eyes are from being stupid enough to touch your eye with dirty hands. Dumb dumb dumb.

She acted a little strange so I'm not sure she had her act together. I doubt denture paste would hold one tooth in place. Think it was her eye tooth so it was very noticeable. She claimed the eye was swollen and sore from a past car accident. To me it looked as though it was infected. I did feel sorry for her. Thanks for responding.

I have to respond this just because of what you said at the end. I don't like making fun of people but sometimes you just can't help yourself. It's like going to the ER and seeing the things you'd see down there through out the night. There was people talking about me but I didn't care. I knew they were because I was in the ER one night and ended up having bronchitis and I ended up "throwing up" muccus and stuff all night. I tried to go to the bathroom but I mean how can you when both restrooms are occupied. Anyways, they was people talking because I couldnt find a trash can quick enough so i thre up in the water fountain. It wasn't like it was a messy throw up with food. anyways, The tooth thing is unnatural. She's just too cheap to go get it fixed. It will probably be causing her problems down the road and if she would just go to the dentist they could repair it quickly. I was almost going to ask you if you worked at walmart but then I read the first part again. lol Just something I hear about all the time at walmart - you know people doing stupid stuff. You hear people talk and you don't know what to think. Maybe this girl could get a good head on her shoulders. My first thought was that she was hillbilly. Cause that sounds like something a hillbillian would do. lmao. Anyways, I got an interesting read out of this one. thanks for starting the discussion.

Actually she was probably in her middle 40's and looked fairly nice. She was dressed in a skirt. I didn't ask her how long the tooth was out of her mouth. Thought she might offer that information but she did not. After the discussion, I wanted to cry just thinking how sad the whole discussion was and she looked as though she didn't have much money. But she was plenty old enough to know not to use superglue in the mouth. I hope she's ok and will probably see her again sometime. I say this because my past experience with lonely people, such as she was, is they return at some point just to talk to me. It's a strange thing! Maybe they can sense a caring person. Thanks for responding.

Well I think that I would do both. I would laugh(not right there in front of them) because that does sound really funny to me that someone would use superglue to fix a tooth. I would also feel bad though because either they are not not smart that they would not know that you cannot use that type of glue in your mouth or they just are not that smart. I see alot of people who to me seem not that smart and ask really dumb questions to me and I tend to think well dont they know that but then I think well maybe they dont or know one has told them the right way to either do things or what to do in certain situations.

That is tough. I think I would want to laugh but on the other hand feel sorry for this person. I run into a lot of people who can't read and do things that are fairly stupid because of it. Also you always hear people telling stories about how they have used super glue for this or that. Maybe she had heard someone say they used it on their teeth before. I hope she is ok.

She appeared to be ok but think she had other problems. She was an adult and certainly should have known better. I did feel sorry for her because she thought the glue would hold the tooth. She should have used a piece of gum..lol Thanks for responding.

Wow. It's amazing the things people do. Obviously, she should have read the label before she tried to put the tooth in. I wonder why she didn't?
I don't know if I would have laughed or sympathized either.
