If you are on a very tight budget and you got to skip 1 of the meals everyday for a week. Which meal (breakfast or lunch or dinner) would you choose to skip and why??? For me, I will choose to skip lunch. I won't skip breakfast cos to me it is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast helps to kick start my day and I really need the energy from breakfast after a night sleep. Dinner is the 2nd important meal to me cos I always take dinner with my family. I love taking dinner with my family enjoying my mum's homecooked food. So, what about you guys??? Cheers o

I'd have to say breakfast. Although, normally I skip it anyways. I know that it's the best meal of the day and all but I just can't bring myself to eat first thing in the morning. I find I have to be up a few hours and have had a couple cups of coffee before I feel the urge to eat anything. My breakfast is usually at lunch hour. And often it's the exact same thing - a toasted bologna sandwhich with a cup of tea. I'm good then until dinner. Which I never skip because, like you said, that's family time. It's time for me to catch up with my kids day and see what's going on in there lives.

Hello imsilver, thanks for your response. You seems to eat very little, just 2 meals a day??? Many people like you including my mum don't have much appetite to eat during morning. But I always feel very hungry in the morning and I need a good breakfast to start my day. Cheers =))

I don't usually skip any meals.. but if I needed to pick one, I would choose supper I think. That way I could load up through the day! I can't skip breakfast because I get all shakey by about 10 or so in the morning. I suppose I could skip lunch and eat on either side of it! I generally eat about 6 smalls meals a day though so I don't do real large meals anyway!

I do rotate different meals in and out. I have fish and wouldn't mind having it every night for supper! I also eat tuna sometimes and even chicken. So it's not htat I dont' eat meat, I just don't eat lots of it!

Hahaha.... supper is not in the list, my dear....as it is not considered as the 3 main meals of the day. I heard many ladies eating small meals a day for diet purposes. Just curious on how you spread your 6 small meals in a day and what you eat for your small meals?

That would depend on the days activities. Last week we took a 1000 mile motorcycle ride and breakfast was the most important meal. We would eat a fairly large breakfast and not stop to eat again until the evening meal right before setting up camp for the night. When at home and on normal days, I usually skip breakfast and lunch. Just too busy, I guess. Basicily, I eat when I am hungry. If I'm not hungry...why eat??

No, not really. I love to cook so when I do eat, I usually fix what I am craving for at the time.

Hmm..... your theory of eating is indeed very simple to understand.... Just eat as and when you are hungry. Will you have any craving for any food sometimes when you are not hungry??

O I see.... It is good that you love to cook. So, you can cook food that you like to eat. I am not good at cooking, I can cook limited dishes and I don't like to wash up after cooking =))

For diet purposes, I will most likely skip Dinner. Breakfast is a very important meal for me because it sets the tone for the day and I am required to eat in the morning because of the meds that I am taking. Lunch... I just cannot live without lunch. I can still eat a little extra during this meal, which I will eventually burn throughout the rest of the day.

Yes, indeed our lifestyles and daily schedules will change when we have a family to look after. Got to look after the needs of our kids and family first before ourselves. Cheers =))

Well, I don't think it's good to skip any meals. However, if I'm forced to choose, I will choose to skip breakfast. I do wake up quite early in the morning, but I usually do not have much appetite in the morning. Even if I eat, I will eat a light breakfast. I don't really consume a lot during breakfast. Thus, I will say that it's easier for me to skip breakfast. I do know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, I do not think I can skip either lunch or dinner as I will not have energy to do things the rest of the day. Even if I sleep early without dinner, I guess I will be waking up in the middle of the night hungry. I had experience before sleeping without eating any dinner/light dinner, and I woke up in the middle of the night. It's really hard to go back to sleep after that...

My mum is just like you with not much appetite in the morning. She always say she just couldn't eat so much solid food early in the morning. For me, I am always hungry in the morning, so I can really eat a lot during breakfast. Cheers=))

Well, I do know of a few friends who are the same as me. They do not eat breakfast, or only eat a light breakfast. However, my husband is quite the opposite. A breakfast is a must for him every morning. In addition, he will usually like to eat a heavier breakfast too, and he can really eat quite a lot during breakfast...

I can also eat quite a lot during breakfast. My breakfast normally consists of 2 slices of multi-grain bread with ham and cheese and a glass of low fat fresh milk. I am always very happy to have a fulfilling breakfast =))

Hello toonvk, I am a Chinese. If I am an American, then I will be consider petite in their society. But because I'm a Chinese living in Singapore, for my size and height, I am consider as plump or chubby. Also, living in Singapore (somtime called the Food Paradise), there are always so many yummy food around me. So, previously when I was working in the office, I always lunch in the office. Cos the temptation is too big if I lunch out at the food court =))

Lunch and dinner for me is always light without carbo. So, I can easily skip either lunch or dinner. I choose to skip lunch cos I lover taking dinner with my family. Happy myLotting =))

Are you American? Because that could be the explanation to your problem. Of course you guys gain weight all the time, even your water has sugar in it! Everything is really fat, salty and contains way to many sugars. You guys don't eat real bread, you eat factory cardboard... Us Europeans, eating everything fresh don't gain weight. We drink water, not some kind of sugarwater with all kinds of sweeteners. We eat lettuce while Americans eat salads, containing dressings and oils that contain the amount of calories for a whole dinner. Believe me, if I would live in America I would weigh a ton! But because I eat everything fresh I don't

For me, I'd rather skip lunch as well. Because if you have had a hearty breakfast you should be squared-out till lunch time. Plus the fact that you can have early dinner with family. SInce you are eating a full meal for dinner you cannot sleep right away , thus, you'll have more time to chat with family members after a busy work day :)

Yes yes, with a hearty breakfast and early dinner, I guess it would be easy for me to skip my lunch. My dinner is also quite light (only veggie, some meat and soup) cos I don't eat carbo for my lunch and dinner since many years back. We normally have our dinner at 6pm, then everyone will gather infront of the TV to watch our favourite Family Drama from 7 - 8pm. Cheers =))

i actually almost skip dinner all the time. i usually eat something very small at night, fruit or something. metabolism is slower at night so you don't need that much food. breakfast is very important because it starts me for the whole day, gives me energy. lunch is important too, because it keeps me going, breakfast only lasts a few hours and i need an extra boost at lunch. i usually have big lunch and it takes me through the day. i also have small snacks here and there in form of fruits because i am very active physically.

For a physically active person, metabolism will be higher, so I think in-between snacks are needed to keep you going through the day. During the night time when our metabolism goes down, then we actually don't need to intake so much food. For me, I usually have a heavy breakfast, then light lunch and dinner. But now, I will choose to skip lunch cos I love taking diiner with my family. Cheers =))

I can skip breakfast provided I eat my lunch earlier, say around 10am. I can skip dinner should I have a heavy breakfast and have a coffee and bread or cookies at around 2pm as merienda. I's been said that we have to eat breakfast as we have to to break the fast. It's like fasting with no food intake from midnight to morning so eating during breakfast is a must. For those who wake up late however, it's easy for them to skip breakfast should they wake up nearly lunchtime already.

People who skip their breakfast are always very hungry by lunch time. But for people who wake up late, then normally they will eat their lunch straight away. I can only wake up late, say 10am on Sunday. So on Sunday, my family will eat brunch (breakfast+lunch) at around 11am.

I would skip lunch. I figure that I'm always really hungry in the morning, so I might as well start the day off the right way. And going from lunch to breakfast is a really long stretch. I don't think I could do that. Breakfast and Dinner seem to be more evenly spaced. Back in college, I used to skip breakfast and lunch. I was always tired and dizzy, and my stomach growled really loudly in classes. I'm glad I don't do that anymore. Very unhealthy!

Hahaha.... I have past experience like you cos back when schooling, everyone wanted to look slim. So most of the girls were dieting which included myself. I can still remember that my stomach always growled loudly in lectures or tutorials... =)) I think most parents will put their kids before themselves. No matter how tight my budget is now, I would never let my daughters starved or go without education.

Hello there, thanks for your reply. So does it means that you only eat a meal a day and drink plenty of water? I saw your profile that you are still quite young and you should have a high metabolism, how to survive with so little food?

Hello thhoon72, out of those three meals I would rather skip lunch. I need to have breakfast to start out my day. Only when I am on vacation xan I skip breakfast. On a normal day I have a large breakfast and coffee to keep from getting a headache.Other meals are generally lighter than my breakfast. Like you dinner is family time. We do not answer phones during dinner, it is time for us to catch up on what is going on in the family.

I would give up breakfast out of the three. I barely wake up until 11am and breakfast past me a long time ago. I know it is important meal of the day from most research people have "found" but I don't believe it. I'm extremely heavy and I still only eat two large meals. I'm not overweight just heavy in mass. I am about 220 and I only eat two large meals, but since it is about budgeting it would be hard to not snack for me. I snack all the time and it doesn't feel good not to be able to snack at all. I think that is when my weight starts dropping. Home cooked food is almost the best tasting in my opinion because one it is free unless you buy the food for your parents to prep but that still would taste better. God bless!

O, how i envious you that you can wake up so late in the morning. of cos by the time you wake up, it is almost lunch time. I would also just eat my lunch straight away. I am considered chubby as an Asian standard cos i also like to snack alot.... But due to tight budget, i have since control on my buying of snacks or buying expensive snacks. I love to eat home cooked food, that is why I choose not to skip my dinner. But I will take a light dinner.
