I saw on the news that a man has been calling elderly people and was posing as their grandchildren and asking for money because he was in a car accident. He then asked for them to transfer money into their account. This has happened to a number of people. So warn your grandmothers or grandfathers!

Some people have no conscience. I can't imagine asking my grandmother for money if I were actually in a car accident, and I'm actually her granddaughter! That's just disgusting. I also hope that the police find out who this jerk is, and soon. There really needs to be stiffer penalties for people who prey on the elderly and their good will/nature.

Yes, they actually caught him. He was an inmate in jail and the money was transferred to his relatives. They record conversations in jail and he was caught. Thank god! But the news said it has happened to other elderly people, unfortunately they weren't caught because it's hard to trace them.

It is Sad that people tend to Prey on the Elderly like this. I know that a lot of them might have things they have earned in life better than others, but this still does not give people a right to do this.
Even if they are not caught now, their just due will come. I would Love to be the one to watch it all come down, as I am sure there are many others here too.

Yes it had happened to several elderly people in Vancouver, BC. Basically the conversation was like this when the seniors ask who is this, he'll say "it's your grandson", and then they'll ask they'll mention one of their grandkids name and he'll saids yes. Then they don't question it and go to the bank and transfer their funds to him.

yeah heard a few recently, one about they phone you from a premium rate number and you get charged for it. A few people have had this happen to them.
Also one where a women advised she broke down and needs to use your phone, she then calls her own premium rate number and it costs you $50.
