Do Christians really pray ?

prostration - Matthew 26:39 KJV And he (Jesus) went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Think in it.

I Think the New Testament of The Bible doesn't teach How to Pray but rather it teach what to say when you pray, reading the new testament of the bible we can find these verses about prayers: [ Luke 11:1-4 KJV] 1 - And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples 2 - And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 3 - Give us day by day our daily bread. Obviously, Jesus said to His Disciples "WHEN YOU PRAY SAY ......" These words are Known as the daily Prayer of Christians, IMO, These words are what to say when you pray, But How to Pray ? Bowing down and prostration to The God was the common practice By Jesus and All Biblical prophets "Peace Be Upon Them all" as it is obviously Mentioned in many Verses of the bible. Genesis 17:3 KJV And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him..... Exodus 11:8 KJV God Said to Moses " And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me Exodus 34:8 KJV And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. Leviticus 26:1 KJV Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. Joshua 5:14 KJV ... And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship ... 1 Samuel 20:41 KJV And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded. Isaiah 2:8 NIV Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made. Psalm 95:6 KJV O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker there are more verses in the Old Testament of the Bible but I cited few of them, now If this is How Previous Prophets Prayed, What about The new Testament and Jesus? How did Jesus pray ? Matthew 26:39 KJV And he (Jesus) went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. also in Revelation 7:11 KJV And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, If you don't know anything about Praying Other Than saying give us day by day our daily bread it is better to go to the nearer Bakery, Talk kindly to the baker and say, give us our daily bread! But if You seriously want to know How to Pray to God, search the scriptures for the Truth, or watch Muslims while the are praying.

Muslims may be instructed in how to pray but without the intimate relation with Jesus and the holy spirit, how can such prayers be more than empty words. What do Islamic prayers consist of? Are they repetitious? all the best urban

Understand that for a Christian prayer is not just repetition of memorised verses but a two way process all the best urban

It is not always a two-process, urbadekay. At times, when you pray the Lord not reply. At times, even when your in the prayer of silence, He will talk to you. It depends on His wishes.

well........I assume you are a Muslim and trying to tell that your religion is the best.......ohk fine if you find peace in that then so be it...... For me prayer is NOT something which I would recite from a book or read it from somewhere.......for me prayer is just like a conversation I take it like talking to god........I say what I feel, I do it just like I would do when I have a conversation with my friend.......I am glad you went to the extent of quoting so many scriptures.....but if you realized different people had different pattern of praying, some just joined hands, some fell on their face.........I feel god has given us human beings brains to think and reason things out and I don't really need to learn from some other religion how to pray....... Anyways, you should think twice what you say about a particular religion buddy(specially the bakery part, it was really in bad taste)........would you like it if someone says such things about your religion........ PEACE !!!!

No, just pointing out bad things of bible. No religions are bad at all. There is bad things and bad stories in every religion. we don't have to believe on that...we have to take only good things from religion. -vine.

I beg to disagree that no religion is bad. There is such a religion as Church of Satan and similar churches and cults.

Did you really tag your discussion with 'Muslims are the true followers of Jesus'? You do realize they don't follow Jesus, but follow Muhammed. Granted they may have some similar teachings, but they don't follow Jesus. I believe they don't even consider him a prophet, just a great teacher.

while it is very true that Muslims Follow Muhammad PBUH it is a matter of Fact that Muhammad Commanded Muslims to Follow all previous prophets PBUT and respect them equally as mentioned in the Holy Quran: [002:136] Say ye: "We believe in God, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to God (in Islam)." and are misinformed when you stated your sentence but they don't follow Jesus. I believe they don't even consider him a prophet, just a great teacher. Jesus PBUH is a prophet and of course All Prophets PBUT are great Teachers. Thanks, Best regards

I have to say I do but to answer for all the Christians in the world if they do really pray then that would be hard. To generalize Christians like that is a bit hard. Like how I do not understand how Muslims pray but I do respect what they believe in.

I am a Christian and I pray everyday with my wife, There is no real way of praying, its meant to be a conversation with God. I also read the word of God everyday and always give thanks for everything that is done in my life :) So I dont think that its fair to say that others dont know how to pray. Each person has their own way of praying.

Very well said! Prayer is a conversation with God. And, I could not have said it better. God is our friend, guide and confidante.

Christains, pray surely, they say word Jesus.. They are praying in the name of Jesus...thinking as God. Bible teaches Jeusus is not God. But every prayer there is God Jesus. It's not good. They wrote prayer against bible. Why they are doing so? -vine.

I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. Which is better to be humble or to be with an open heart to God? Each have their places and times. David danced before the lord with all his might. Noah danced before the lord and it pleased him. Also "And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." I have prayed like that and I am a christian. God must above all else be worshiped in truth in spirit and if god wants you to dance before him who are you to deny it?

In Matthew, Jesus provided us a basic outline on what must we include in our daily prayer. 1. glorify his name 2. thank him for his promise (the Heaven and Salvation) 3. Ask him for your needs (he will surely give it according to his will) 4. Ask for forgiveness because we are truly a sinners. 5. Thank him for all his blessings. 6. ask him to protect you from evil. The most important is #2 because we all look forward for this great promise. God gave us a freewill to do what we want to do but this outline is basically a guide for us to focus on what righteous in His eyes. And strong Christians really pray.

It seems you have done a researach in the particular topic. I am a christian and I do pray often. I pray when I get up in the morning daily. I read Bible and pray to Jesus to take care of me for the whole day and thank him for giving me one more day to praise him. Whenever I go out of the house, I pray to Jesus to take care of me during the travel. I also pray before going to bed, thanking Jesus for giving me a good day.

Watch most any TV show that depicts a childs prayer, and you will notice, that we kneel, and bow our heads. The "daily" prayers, are the words of thanks for our food. And Jesus knelt and said "Our Father which art in heaven Hallowed be thy name. Then you talk to God about what you want to talk to God about, and you finish your prayer Thy Kingdom Come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. But, the bowing and the prostrating, is far from necessary. All that you have to do is Address God, and you will be heard. Don't forget to listen for the answers.

I make it a point to pray a Rosary each day...five decades per day, adding up to a full Rosary being prayed every three days. The Memorare, the Lord's Prayer, the Mass on Sundays...I always pray those. Sometimes I don't use the formulated prayers and simply use my own words, but most of the time I prefer using formulated prayers. If you don't know anything about Praying Other Than saying give us day by day our daily bread it is better to go to the nearer Bakery, Talk kindly to the baker and say, give us our daily bread! What if that's the only prayer someone knows? It's a start--God understands a person's heart, even if the person doesn't know how to fully articulate his or her deepest feelings. The way a Christian prays is totally different from the way Muslims pray.

I know how to pray and I am a Christain. He only was giving His children stepping stones in how to develop a relationship with Him. I pray to Him in a less 'traditional'way. I talk to Him as if he is standing right next to me. I know that he hears me and I know that he will answer them in His own time. I find it funny how all other religions and other people seem to worry about how they pray and how they live their lives will upset God. I am sorry but we all have already angered God and that is why I believe that God had sent His only Begotton Son (Jesus Christ) to save us from our sins. This is what I believe and this is why I just talk to the Lord as if He was right next to me.

I am a Christian, and i pray everyday. I pray when i just wake up, before i eat my breakfast/lunch/dinner, before i go to bed, and during my quiet time. My church had taught me a lot, and how we should always commit everything to God and not decide everything on our own. So before we make a critical decision we will always pray, before we take our exams we pray etc; etc;
