When we go to a hotel, we like to sleep on the top floor. It seems like when we stay on the first floor, there is some heavy footed person staying above us and they are up all night. Which floor do you perfer?

The first floor is usually noisy with people carrying their luggage to other places in the building at night, then hauling out as early as 5 a.m. in the morning. Above the first floor seems to be quieter, unless you get noisy neighbors or people down the hall who can't close their door but have to let it slam.
The top floors on a high rise are sometimes nice because you can leave your curtains open at night to enjoy a full moon or the stars without worrying that someone is watching you sleep.

It doesn't really matter to me as long as it isn't too high. I am freaked out by high places, but anything under about the eighth floor doesn't really bother me. I do prefer the lower floors, ideally about the fourth floor or so.

If the elevators are plentiful and working, then it doesn't matter much. If they aren't, I prefer to stay on one of the first floors. With 4 people in the family, that's a lot of stuff to carry!
The last hotel I stayed at, I was on the first floor sandwiched in between the fitness room, the pool, and my mother in law. It was loud and my kids didn't sleep well (which means we didn't either). So anywhere that is quiet is good for me!
