Everyone believe to have ATM card at least 1 or more than that. So IR IS MORE CONVENIENT to get money from the Atm machine at any time.
I have 1 question to ask all mylotters.
Do you count the notes you get from the machine? I always count the notes before leaving the place. Somehow if there is a queue behind me, I will just leave take the cash and leave.
What will you do?

Hi Celine,
It is good to count the money and note before leaving the ATM Machine. I don't count everytime I go Atm machine. I will count when the bank is in the business hours. I wouldn't count when the bank is closed because I feel insecure to stay long there.
Have you receive any formard email from your friend or family. Few months back I receive some forward email, quite scary.
The email attached some rob cases happen at the atm machine. In the email they even have the robbery photo.

I am sure to count the pieces, and check on it too. I encounter that there was a torn notes dispense from the machine, and I am just in luck that I counted them before I leave. I call the bank CS immediately, and got the note replace the next morning.

Hello cwong,
Thanks for your response. I don't know we can call the bank CS, I learn something from your response.
For me, I don;t know why I am so phobia to go to ATM machine lately. I don't dare to go withdraw money when the bank is closed.
Maybe I get frightern from some of the forward email I have receive. There are many cases where people being rob when they come out from the Atm center. The robbery not only rob your money, they will rob your car and even kidnap.

Yes, bank will payback the customer if there is fault found on the machine. Only after investigations done by the technician. I worked with ATM machine's technician before, and yes, machines do make mistake! Good to count before you leave!!

I do count the money coming from the ATM machine even if there is a long line of people waiting for their turn for practical reason: To be sure that what I get is the right amount that I withdrew. It is better to count the money right then and there so that you can immediately report it to your bank. I also make sure that I keep to check my main balance first before attempting to withdraw money and keep all receipts of transaction so that I can show it to the bank just in case they need it for investigation if a problem occurred.

I normally count my money immediately, but at times if I am rushing, or very late at night, I will quickly go inside my car and locked the car, then I count. This is because, in my country..it is not safe due to there are many cases happened where this people are marked and followed. They are robbed, some cases raped & killed.
Actually it make no difference if you count there or in your car because if there is any discrepancy, you need to report to the Bank (ATM transacted bank). Therefore, I think it is better that you count in a safe place BUT remember to take the transaction slip with you, any report .. the transaction slip is the core element!
I would like to add an incident where my tenant bank-in rental into my accont.
When I update my saving book, the amount was NOT there. When I contacted him, thank God he did keep the bank-in slip. With the bank-in slip we went to the bank where he did the transaction. The bank take 3 days to investigate and realise the error and bank it back to my bank account.
Therefore, Please do Check and Update your Account and KEEP THE WITHDRAWAL / BANK IN SLIP. Tks and happy MyLotting!

Iriene, it is true, we need to be discreet when come to counting the money. Better to count on a safe place. I always keep those receipts with me. :)
But I will clear it once in a month.

Before I used to count the bills or notes from the ATM but I do it quickly because of the queue. I used to work on a money changer and I knew that the bill counting machine is accurate even if its hundreds of thousands of notes. I don't count the notes anymore ever since I have worked in the money changer. Its accurate or else banks will not have confidence using the bill counting machine and they will lose money with their business.

sophie, I bet the banks has the very smart counting machine. But will there a chance to get one single mistake? I just find out many comments about they usually count the money before they leave the machine.

I always check and count the money before leaving the atm, atm's are machines and they can bug down and commit mistakes, yes, even if there's a queue. Even just a 100 pesos is a big deal for me, more so if the amount was larger, it is a very significant amount and if the machine failed to dispense the amount I think that is only proper that it be reported at once. and you can't report it if you don't count your money. I think the people in the queue will understand this as they too would like to count their money before leaving the atm machine to make sure that all the money they withdraw from their account is there, don't you think?

Yeah, I wish to count the money all the time. But somehow I feel unsecure to count the money in front of many people. Because I normally go to ATM when the bank is off business.

once we get money from the ATM we must count it. i make sure to count th money because it is always possible that the ATM makes a mistake. even if the queue is long you can count the money before you leave the place. the person behind you would also spend time in counting his money so s/he should not mind your counting.

thanks for your reply. I get most of the comments here that you guys will count on the money before left. It is good. We just know the machine might have made mistake. Next time I will try count the money even though the queue is there :)

The ATM that I go to is a drive up ATM - so I'm in my car while getting my money. I always double check the amount when I take it out of the ATM. It's not hard to do since usually noone is behind me in line. And if they are - they're in their car so they don't know what I'm doing or why it's taking me as long as it is. Most people are pretty patient anyways.
I do wonder what would happen if the ATM didn't give you the right amount??

Woh, that's great. You have dive up ATM service. My country still don't have such a service. You think we can claim from the bank if the machine goes wrong with the money that we withdraw ?

I know I should do it as it is part of the instructions given by banks. I don't do it regularly, specially if someone is behind me or waiting in line. I haven't had any problem like the money dispensed is incomplete, I think the ATM machine rarely makes a mistake, unless some bad people had put a device in the machine that traps the money somewhere, so that the one who withdraws does not get all his/her money, or worse, gets none at all. Fortunately I haven't been a victim of this modus yet, I've heard this has happened to many.

Doryvien, I do not know it is 1 of the instruction given by bank ... MAybe I need to count the money every time i make withdraw. But of course we need to be discreet when doing that.

I do count my money before I leave the ATM. If its an ATM that I have to walk up to, I usually try to be discreet as possible with the amount I took out. You never know if the person behind you is crazy. But usually I go to the ones that you drive up to so I don't have to worry about that.

Ms Whtny, we also got to be more careful when come to the ATM machine. Be it walk up or drive up ATM , we have to be more alert of people around you.

I think I should count it because its a machine and mistakes are possible but whenever I'm at the ATM, there's a long line and I don't want to be holding a wad of cash and counting it. If there's no one by me, I will.

I dont go to the ATM, my husband does. He counts the notes before leaving. Even if there is a queue behind him, he'll count. After all, he doesnt withdraw a big lumpsum at one go.
