How do you cope up after a failure? For me, I cry at first but after that I try to always remember this. I saw this in a Pinoy site and it really inspired me. :)
Abraham Lincoln's life highlights
1831 – Failed in business
1832 – Defeated for legislature
1833 – Again failed in business
1834 – Elected to legislature
1835 – Sweetheart died
1836 – Had a nervous breakdown
1838 – Defeated for speaker
1840 – Defeated for elector
1843 – Defeated for Congress
1846 – Elected for Congress
1848 – Defeated for Congress
1855 – Defeated for Senate
1856 – Defeated for Vice-President
1858 – Defeated for Senate
1860 – ELECTED PRESIDENT
See, even though he was assassinated in the end, you never really know when are you going to succeed. :)

depends how big the failure is like if i failed a test. i would study harder for the next one. sometimes failing makes me want to work harder. it gives me more confidence to do better. and yes some failures i do cry from like stayed one a radio station for like 7 hours straight to win some unbelievable tickets and i lost. i couldn't believe it i cried. and yes i felt like a failure. and i blamed myself. yeah sounds like he had more failures than succeeding i guess that is something to look up to.

Those kind of moments can be really frustrating and disappointing so I think it's pretty normal that you cried. Life really has a lot of ups and downs and failure is life's way of teaching us in dealling with this upsa and downs. :) Anyway, Thanks for responding and Happy Mylotting! :)

I never get depressed by failure or overjoyed with success. I consider these two as a part of life, two sides of the same coin of life. Remember the story of the King of Scotland who when defeated in battle ran away and hid himself in a cave? He was very depressed when he saw a small spider attempting to climb the wall of the cave. It tried several times but fell everytime but did not give up. finally it did succeed and inspired the king so much that he emerged and fought in the battle and then won it. We fail because we do not give full attention to whatever we are doing, or because of poor knowledge we are not able to cope up with it.We should focus our mind and never give up, just like the spider." Try, try again and you will succeed at last" was the phrase that came from that story which we were told during our schooldays.

I agree that success and failure, even though completely opposite withe each other go hand in hand. Sometimes are emotion get the best of us when faced with failure. I really like the story about the King of Scotland. It's how you deal with failures that really matter. Thanks for responding and Happy Mylotting! :)

I agree. Sometimes before one will experience success, a person has to undergo a lot of failures. :)

Hi lealuvy, frankly speaking, I’m an ordinary human being only and I would feel quite discouraged and depressed at first after encountering a failure. But later on when calming down I will think over and over again to find out the true reasons that cause such failure. And I know very well we could hardly to achieve success after doing thing with one stroke only
No matter how, I will never give up that easy. However I will try to learn from the faults so that I don’t recommit the same errors again when having the second, third, .... time of trial. I know there is a way if there is a will. I have confidence that this learning from mistakes method will help me a lot to hit my goal easily if I persist to do it until succeed
Have a nice day and happy posting

Yeah, never give up, persistence and learn from mistake, is the best way to lead us to success. We will never feel the true sense of accomplishment as well as the real happiness and satisfaction if we haven’t experienced any failure at the beginning. Of course we do accomplish whatever too with taking one shot only. Since it's not easy and we have to take time after time to achieve one goal sometimes, therefore we have to cherish whatever we have achieved no matter it’s a small or great success

Your behavior is very much like mine. The hardest thing about failure is acceptance so when I haven't accepted the situation, I feel depressed as well. You are right that the trick is learning from mistakes is a key instrument in achieving success. Adding hardwork to it helps a lot as well.

I agree. We should not be disheartened easily. It is in failure that we learn how to succeed. It really makes me think that success and failure though oppposite with each other go hand in hand. :)

Well, i used to be pretty emotional about it.but knowing that we can always try and try again i have known that i can do it..i have always thought of being successful one day in life, and probably think how i can sustain that success. i had so many failures too but knowing also what you told us about Lincoln. it seemed to be inspirational for me as well.

Good for you LetranKnight. Sometimes all we need are a positive attitude and something to motivate us like a story or a person who has undergone similar situations.

For me failure is like a sting to me to that drives me to strive harder to achieve my goals in life. I have countless failures in my life and I have seen it as a good thing which made me a stronger and better person in life right now. Even Lincoln has been assassinated centuries ago, his legacy still lives in the American people.
Try and try until you succeed..

Lincoln may have a lot of failures but you are right it is his legacy that lived on. People remembered him as one of the greatest Presidents that ever lived so I think his failures made him the best that he can be.

well not only that but he only went to the 3rd grade in school and grew up very, very poor in a log cabin but obviously the man was a genious. Then there was Einstien that was also a genious, but failed in school many many times.

Nice info you got there even thought it seems summarized or shorten. I can never let my failures get to me because i know the fact that with out failures, how can you give importance on your success. It takes a lot of trial, errors to achieve success and i believe no human is exempted to that. we all have to go through the failure stage to realize our mistakes, and correct them. we don't, we spent our entire lives failing and that is sad. .

After a failure I do log and ponder for a while, try to look back, find out what went wrong, and I also allow myself to feel the hurt that went with failing, meaning I don't censor my feelings or put up a strong front just so others won't know that I failed. But that's only for a while, then I stand up, try to pick up the pieces, and move on. I know that failure makes people learn, and for the better.

You are pretty brave for not censoring your feelings after failures because people can say a lot of hurtful things and can be really judgmental. Sometimes I try my best to not let them know that I am affected by the failure. It is when I am alone that I let my feelings out. Anyway, Thanks for responding and Happy Mylotting. :)

yes friends we people never think that we failed in that part or this part , inspite of this we can think it in a positive sense like , i failed in this part because this not a part of mine or this is not the right time for me to step in the particular work .. so think positive and be positive so this will help you to get the positive things in right time .

That is pretty good advice to always think positive. Sometimes when you can't do anything about something. One should pray for the best and to look at the brighter side of things.

One of the things I like about myself is that I never consider anything to be a failure.
Of course up's and down's are always there, but I always accept things and move on from there.
I recently in my last semester flunked in one of my Management papers, I didn't waste too much tears over it, of course I felt guilty and ashamed, but I accepted the fact that I failed NOT because i am dumb or stupid but because and only because I didn't do as much as I should or could have done...
This semester I have the top grade in that very paper!!
all am saying is that just as we should never let success get to our heads, neither should we let failure stick around in our minds for too long...it just makes you more miserable (which doesn't help one bit)
So just move on in life...holding on to things is futile....more than anything else learn to forgive your self for your failure and/or mistake...sometimes we are so hard on ourselves that getting up becomes so much more difficult!

Nothing in the world can take the place of perseverance. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
