In my country the water is relatively safe as we adhere to strict standards and so far there hasnt been a out break or epidemic so I guess they have been doing something right .However there are countries where the safety standards are less stringent and as a result there are frequent outbreaks consequently I am wondering how many people take teh extra precaution to safegaurd their drinking water. In addition I would like to know what are these precautions like boiling or adding a bleaching agent ?Or do you you totally trust the water you consume ?

I live in Australia and drinking water is not an issue here. I travelled to Asia years ago and bottled water was a must back then. We have water shortages here but we can still drink from the tap, although I don’t know if it is psychological but the water doesn’t always taste great unless it’s been filtered; for that reason some people boil it before drinking; I’ve never bothered.

I am so very thankful that I live in the US and dont have to worry about the drinking water! I grew up with a well, so we drank the water straight from the tap. Now, I have city water and it tastes terrible straight from the tap! So instead, I filter it and then drink it. But I dont have to sterilize it!
The only time we sterilize water is when we are camping. Thee are times when you get water from the stream, and you just have to be safe!

Yes you have to thankful for that fact.Wow they still have active wells and isnt that ironic that well water taste better than tap water which is to be treated. I live from teh tap too but I have also noticed that when I go into the town area the water taste worse than we have in the country ...and you would have thought that they would have better facilties but i guess its teh starin on teh system

The well water still comes out of the tap. It just comes straight from the well rather than from a city reserve of water.

Yes, I thank god every day for living in the US so I do not have to worry about the quality of the water I drink most of the time. I would not want to live in an area I had to worry about everything like this. I feel blessed to be where I am at.

The only time i Boil water , was when my son was a baby .Now he is all grown up we all drink the same water.
Because as you said their is no out break are anything,so we all get water from the pump.
Here in Jamaica you have a lot of uptown people who buy bottle water, and even boil water which they say is the best water.
The best water for thought is the water in the country, very refreshing and cool straight from the spring. But we Jamaican always have a drum a water outside in case water gone for a day are a few hours. so when we have the drum outside we just tip a little bleach in it to keep safe.

Hello mky friend ronnyb Ji,
Well you are very right, our country, water is unsafe, and we do boil, filter and cool. There are many procedures to purify drinking water.
There is no scarcity of drinking water in India. Most towns and cities have a well planned system of over head tanks that store water which can be used as and when the need be. Though Indian drinking water is clean, it is advisable that you keep in mind some basic safety while drinking water on you visit to India. Given below are some tips and precautions that will be for our own safety.
Bottled mineral water is available all through India in all roadside shops. Make sure you drink that mineral water and do not forget to check the manufacturing and expiry date.
While eating out in restaurants, make sure you order bottled water only. If they serve you water in a glass that is not clean, insist on getting a bottle and drink from that.
Some roadside vendors sell water in plastic bags. Do not drink that at any cost.
Do not drink tap water. Tap water is usually used for bathing and laundry purposes.
If the water served to you has something floating in it, do not drink it and have it replaced.
Some places may offer you water from a handpump. That water is equally harmful and it is not advisable that you drink it.
While traveling in trains, it is recommended that you use bottled water for brushing and flossing.
If staying with someone, make sure there is an aquaguard, or a water filter. If both are not available, insist on getting bottled mineral water. If that is also not possible, drink boiled water.
May god bless You and have a great time.

Even though we get filtered water here in Kolkata, I have never drank that as you can very well understand that the water might be filtered but the pipelines are never cleaned! So we have the water filter at home and we drink water from that. Boiling is too expensive and time consuming…more than the time, it’s the expense of the gas which is sky high these days.

Here in India we used an Aquaguard. Private companies have come up with more things for purifing water. So we drink it straight. Some people still prefer to boil the water.

I never boil water before drinking. The water i drink comes from a tanker that gives water like mineral water.I think the water is treated in plants run by the government.Even in the rainy season we don't boil water unless there is a lot of heavy floods.Nowadays there are water purifiers that give water close to boiled water. We are planning to purchase it.

Hi. ronnyb. I do. Whenever I am making a flavored tea drink, lemonade or just when I want some icy cool water, I will make sure that the water is boiled first, or I will add some steaming hot water to my pitcher. I don't trust drinking water from the faucet. I would rather buy water that is distilled and steamed. When I tasted the water that my grandma has that comes out of her faucet, I will not drink it because it taste really nasty.

Yes for sure I boil the water before I consume it. Although in my university there are some water dispenser I do not believe it, it is because sometime I can smell the bleaching things. I prefer to buy drinking water istead of drinking the water from the tap directly.

Yes. Just to be safe on the water that we drink at home, it is a need for up to boil it and it is a must that it should be boiled long enough, otherwise it will be useless and possibility of contaminated water is still there. It is a necessity for us to boil water for drinking purposes especially during the wet season here in the Philippines. Even though we are residing in a urban area, still the quality of the water that we drink is not that safe due to the source which is a big semi-artificial dam located outside the city. Just to share with our fellow readers, my family doesnt trust that much of those mineral nor distilled water stations and we firmly believe that safety is still on one's games.

Although it is relatively safe to drink our tap water without boiling them, most families here do not. Besides boiling them, we have also install water filters to filter off foreign particles to make sure that the water is healthier. So, selling water filters is a huge business here and more brands are emerging everyday.

here where i am the tap water is safe to drink. the water goes through various stages of cleansing. by the time the water comes to our home, it's clean enough to drink straight. i don't even boil the water before i drink.
i heard that one of the towns in australia is going to ban bottled water. it's good because the process and material needed for a bottle of water contributes to global warming. hopefully one day my country will control bottled water as well.

We are sure that water here in our place is dirty and not to rely on it. That is why we bought a water dispenser and we order our water in water stores where it is safe and convenient to use.
When cooking i can use the tap water because the water is going to be boiled and it will be just fine. But when it comes to drinking water, we only use our water dispenser for that which has been filtered from impurities.
I know that 25 gallons would not cost much here if we consider our health and safety. It is better to drink clean and purified water than what we get on our tap.

In our country, it is advised to boil drinking water well so prevent getting infected with microorganisms.
At home, we have a drinking water purifier so there is no need to boil water before drinking it.
