I am not the kind of person that goes around buying things and returning them but recently on two seperate occasions I bought things that just broke really early on. For instance I bought a new lap top which is a pretty pricey purchase and it just stopped dead on me after 15 days. Then we bought 2 spray guns to paint our fence at $79.00 plus tax each. They both stopped working after painting just a few fence posts. Both times when I took those things back the customer service people were less than polite, treating me like I was just out to take advantage of them. They sold me crap, I have every right to bring it back, and I feel and apology for my trouble is in order not bad treatment.
When was the last time this happened to you?

Customer Service nowadays are getting impatient. ;) I had an experience after they sold me a pricey pocket pc and it just stopped working after a week. They were very polite and enthusiastic when I was inquiring about the unit and all. However, after-sales service really seem to annoy me. When I returned it to them for replacement, they made wait for a couple of hours before attending to my problem. Then they told me (frowning now, as if I broke the pda intentionally) that it is still covered by the warranty but I have to wait for a couple of weeks for the replacement. It could have been a positive experience if the customer service people knows how to handle customer and attend to their needs with enthusiasm as if they were selling. ;)

I would think they would be more apologetic since the product you bought was defective. Considering what an inconvenience it was for you to have to return it, and having to wait. They tried to pull the wait two weeks thing on me too, and I got upset, saying that is rediculas, I can not, not work while I am waiting for something to come that should have worked in the first place. He finally got approval to exchange it with one of the computers in the store. But it took me getting upset for this to occur.

It seems to be happening more and more often. I'm not sure if it is because the economy is bad and the salespeople are worried about their jobs or what! But, people every where seem to be acting differently. I haven't had to return anything lately, so I can't speak about that. But, I tried to use a gift card at a Best Western while we were on vacation and the clerk looked really ticked off about it. I didn't understand her attitude because I thought they get that money back anyway, but man, she seemed upset. I don't think a salesperson should ever be rude! The money doesn't come out of their pockets directly, so why the heck do they care?!

i feel the pain of the customer service persons simply because of the nature of their job, since lots and lots of customers are giving them a really really hard times. what i do if i encounter a hard giving time representative is that i try to keep my calm, and if nothing is resolve i simply look for another customer service person..

What customer service people have to realize though is that if you are sweet to even the angriest customer they will calm down and get nicer too. Usually a simple very nice, very sincere, "I am sorry you had trouble with that. Let's get you taken care of." Will automatically take someone's anger meater down several notches. It is hard to be mean and angry to someone who is being really sincerely nice. Most of us have encountered customers that just are out of control and irrational, but that really does not happen all that often. Most people just want their item replaced or their money back. Just a simple transaction, not needing any rudenss.

They shouldn't have an attitude for doing their jobs - maybe it's a side-effect of low pay... Anyway, customer service generally has been fine with my encounters. I did have one problem with a TV that arrived pre-used. The merchant assured me that it left their warehouse brand new, and the courier assured the merchant that they didn't touch it. However, the delivery label was tampered with - they'd originally delivered the TV to a different address. Long story short, the merchant agreed to provide a full refund on return of the TV... But, they had trouble arranging collection by the same incompetent courier company. They finally collected the TV and the merchant gave a full refund... I shopped elsewhere, ensuring that a more trustworthy courier service was used.

Well that bites. I haven't had to deal with customer service in a while, wait, I went to Geek Squad recently and they really helped me with a laptop that was given to me. So I guess it goes both ways. I don't like it when the people who are supposed to give you service give you a hard time instead. Next time yell loudly, "Get the manager!" It seems to work when I've done it.

I went to MCC camera service centre, because my display screen damaged. I requested them that my camera under warranty so you have to repair camera free. But they asked Rs.1800/- I fight with them but found that their main office is in Delhi and they will charge to this dealer-come-repair service centre. So they have refused. Still i have warranty of one year. I want to teach them lesson.

Haha, I always encounter difficult customers. I draw portraits, and one time one of my art client gave me a picture and he wants me take off his eye glasses.... some wants a complete overhaul of their face, i'm like a plastic surgeon at times, ... at most I make their face really smooth and put a glare on their eyes to make them look charming. It's a hard job but it pays a lot and its good coz I enjoy it.

I don't usually have trouble with my purchases. The last time though that a customer service personnel made a difficult situation out of a simple return-a-bad-purchase product was just a fortnight ago. I went to a popular mall and bought a prepaid load card for my cellphone. Alas, the card would not validate after six tries. I went back to the mall and requested for a replacement. The phone company admitted to a defective card but the customer service personnel wanted my ID's, address, contact numbers, etcetera. I said this is just a load card and my money is already with you. The telephone company already deemed the purchase bad but she insisted on my personal information. And you know what? The following day, I received a cellphone message summoning me to claim hundreds of thousands real good bucks because my cellphone won in a special promo. Grrrr!
