How many responses do you expect to receive to your new discussion(s)?

Hi friends! We start a new discussion for eliciting others point of view and to know their experiences on certain matters. How many responses on an average do you expect to receive in response to your new discussion(s)? Do you feel happy to see large number of responses or you feel contended even if you have received say 10-15 responses? When I was newbie here on mylot, I would get very few responses to my discussions, may be 5-6 and that would make me happy. Now over the period of time the situation has changed drastically,, number of users/members have increased many folds and things like ‘mylot digest’ has been introduced, therefore, one can expect to receive huge number of responses. Now, whenever I start a new discussion, I receive many responses and I love receiving them. However, sometimes, when I fail to post my comments to all the responses, due to paucity of time, I feel pretty bad. Would like to know your views on the ‘issue’ please. Many thanks in advance.

I never expect more than 15, but lately I have tons of responds. My last discussion get over 70, but I don't start many discussions, maybe one per week or less... I don't start new discussion till I am sure I was able to comment for my last discussion...I always want to start fresh. i don't have much time during the day.... Take care, HUGS

Hi Pola! This time you became the first respondent, congratulations to you! (Do you remember in one of my discussions, you were at No.3 and when I commented - 'thanks for being No.3, you counter-commented, I wanted to be No.1, and see today you are the number one and you have fulfilled your desire). So for you 15 is the average number of responses you expect to get. However, I notice that you have many followers/well wishers/friends who send you large number of responses to each of your discussions. You are very right when you say that we should finish posting comments to our previous discussion, before starting the new one. I also try to do like-wise. Time constraints are also with me. Thanks for responding and sharing. Warm Hugs! Deepak

Actually I am not particular about the numbers of responses. In fact plenty of responses without any relevance to the discussion make me obligated to respond to them out of decency. I don't fancy writing something back for the sake of writing. At the same time if I am able to get some interesting ,smart and witty ones I feel happy and respond with equal vigor and vivacity.

Hi Bala! So you don't expect and do not guess about the number of responses you are going to receive in response to your discussions. I feel that you always post interesting and witty discussions. You are very correct Bala, quality is more important than quantity and sometimes irrelevant response keep coming our way, making us feel ackward. I believe that number of responses also depends upon the nature of a discussion. Serious and complex issues elicit less number of responses. While easier ones will get more number of responses. Many Thanks for responding and sharing. dpk

I've been here a while and I mostly do responses, But in my posts I've learned that it's really a crap shoot as far as the number of responses that you get, one influence is your friends increase, the other I really don't know! An example is I posted a questions on your opinion of mixed race couples I posted it twice in a 4 month period, the first time I got 5 responses, the second time I got 72 responses? Go Figure! I did reword it, not copy and paste! tdemex

Hi tde! So for you there is no average number of responses you expect to get....LOL! It may vary from 5 to 72. Actually, it depends upon the time of posting a discussion, sometimes many numbers of users are active so one gets large number of responses, else if your discussion figures in mylot digest, the number of responses automatically goes up. Users tend to post less responses to complex discussion or say serious discussions. Thanks for responding and sharing.

Hey dpk! When I start a discussion I never have any idea how many responses I'm going to get or how my discussion is going to be received! I just post it and wait and see! I guess it depends on what the discussion is about and how the responders are feeling about the subject matter! I know that some of my discussions have taken off and gotten over 100 responses while others have barely gotten 10! I don't post many discussions, I mainly am a responder so when I do start a discussion they usually are few and far between unless there is something going on that I am passionate about!

Hi Opal! So for you there is no average number of responses you expect to get....LOL! You just write something and allow others to think so that they could scratch their heads and could post something relevant to the discussion. .Yes, it is very true the number of responses also depends upon the nature of a discussion. The topic is very important in fetching responses. Serious and complex issues elicit less number of responses. While easier ones will get more number of responses. Many Thanks for responding and sharing.

That's the spirit. We can begin somewhere to reach our desired goals. Coming to the point I am a newbie here just from 2 days I started to work here, I started some 5 new discussions on interesting topics, got 4 responses for 2 topics and the remaining 3 were not even touched by any one at all. I am a little bit disappointed but meanwhile I felt very excited to see at least I got some responses to some of my topics. See, who don't like their topic was attracted the members and they post responses. I'll be excited to get more and more responses from the myLot members, just like anyone here. Am I right?

If i get a few of my good friends to interact in my discussions, I am more than satisfied. If there are others who post some quality and interesting posts that would be most welcome to. So it's really not about the numbers to me Deepak as much as seeing the people who respond and the content. The fact that you have been getting increasing numbers of responses shows of constant interaction here and a lot friends that you have made over time. Great going.

Hi Paula! So you don't expect and do not guess about the number of responses you are going to receive in response to your discussions.. I agree with you that sometimes few quality responses from dear friends are more important than large number of brief and seemingly irrelevant responses. I feel glad to see large number of responses, yet if the number of quality and relevant responses are higher I feel more happy. I believe that number of responses also depends upon the nature of a discussion. Serious and complex issues elicit less number of responses. While easier ones will get more number of responses. Hi Sara! So you don't expect and do not guess about the number of responses you are going to receive in response to your discussions. I feel that you post interesting and witty discussions. You are very correct Sara, the core issue of the discussioon should be commented upon and should be responded, that carries more importance. Dear deepak, When I post a discussion I don't think much about responses.....but it would really hurt if whenever I check my discussion I see there zero responses . So I would expect atleast one response....so that I will feel that someone in this world does love me...... Also I am afraid if I get more that 20 or 30 responses , because then it becomes very difficult to reply each and every response...and I feel guilty that I could not reply some of them and that must have hurt someone.....so you see getting responses and not getting responses is a touchy subject.......

Users/friends love your simple yet interesting discussions, therefore, they will definitely come and join you in yur discussions. Honestly, these past few days I have been getting 'fantastic' responses from mylotters. Thank you to all for being very responsive and your endless support are very much appreciated. I am surprise myself as lately most of my discussions hit the roof. I am at most expecting something around 10 - 20 responses and I never expect a huge influx of mylotters responding to my discussions. Thanks to mylot digest which has given a wider coverage to my discussions that managed to slip in the digest. I will give out my comments to all responses but it would take me some time to go round to all as I have in the last few days posted few discussions and most of them were heavily responded. I try to make my comments short so I can race with time to reach out to every responses faster. By posting new discussions I get to meet many new mylotters whom I have never crossed path before and hopefully they will request me to be their friends so I'll be able to come to their discussions in future.

Hi Zandi! So for you there is no average number of responses you expect to get....LOL! Actually, there is no need for your to count your responses, because you are such a wonderful person that anything you touch becomes gold, you start some highly meaningful, sensible, thought provoking and quality discussions that huge number of responses automatically start pouring in, even if you do not expect. I know you are very particular in posting comments and it makes you all the more popular and moreover you are a veteran here. I agree with your point that more responses means meeting new users and posting more comments. Actually, it depends upon the time of posting a discussion, sometimes at a particular point of time many numbers of users are active so one gets large number of responses, else if your discussion figures in mylot digest, the number of responses automatically goes up. Thanks for starting such an awesome discussions and providing us opportunities to share our views and thoughts.

Hi Deepak, Usually I never expect a particular number of responses when I start a discussion. If I got good number of responses definitely it makes me happy and at the same time it adds my work too. My laziness may delay the comments but definitely I reply to all those kind hearted members later on. Time is also one important factor especially with working people. I think you are also doing favour to your friends and that is the secret of getting large number of responses. If we can keep the discussion lively it will be an added advantage for getting more responses.

I do enjoy getting a lot of different responses on my discussions but I also feel bad when I do not have the time to comment back to everyone, or do not get to it because it gets lost in my many emails, etc. I think that the more responses a person gets the merrier, and it helps a lot to keep the conversation going, especially with so many different view points. Even with the email system, one needs to implement their own way of doing things so as to quickly get their email cleared out.

While starting any discussion I feel that mine is the best and mine will be get a good number of responses. I am satisfied with about 15-20 substantial ones. Previously I used to do mostly responses. Now,I have started to start my own topics as and when I feel the urge. It always feels good to see our posts in the top and highest rated. When it happens, it just happens. we need not, or should I, there is no rule as such. So, its better to enjoy the fruit as it comes. Happy lotting

Hi Mimpi dear! I may also endorse your statement that your discussions are one of best and interesting ones and it is also true that many users/friends automatically post their responses to your discussions. There is something magical and attracting in your discussions, which makes others to respond. It is good to know that you feel contended to have 15-20 responses, however, now a days I feel your tally of responses goes something between 50 to 100. You are a great hit and mylot and you rock here. I believe that number of responses also depends upon the nature of a discussion. Serious and complex issues elicit less number of responses. I think if the discussion is a sincere query and worth one's knowledge, them the responses should be high in number. I like to get questions to some of my answers or learn something of interest from others besides sharing the knowledge that I already have, so I guess it works both ways. I strongly think, its not the matter of how many responses but what we learn and share with each other instead.

It seems to be anyone’s guess as to how a discussion will go. I have a couple with zero responses and one with over one hundred and many in between! The popular one I would not have guessed it to be so well accepted. I compare it to my article ideas; I cannot usually presume which one will be seeing favourably by an editor or receive many page views or vice versa. I just take a chance with my ideas and sit back and see where they take me and how my readers will react. I like to comment on the responses I receive; I think it is the courteous thing to do to.

I've learnt not to expect anything because when you expect something to happen, but it doesn't, you'll be disheartened :) What I hope to achieve through discussions is to help others with their problems by guiding them (not by making decisions for them). The other important thing is, we ENJOY the discussions. Only then will things fall into place smoothly over time. Not sure if you agree with me.
