i talk to my dogs and treat them like children. i even scold them when they did something wrong. other animal nonlovers would say that i'm quite stupid but i think that my pets do understand what i'm saying. they look at me and wag their tails and do some other response to what i'm saying. i just really love dogs, and treating them like humans makes them smarter and more closer to us humans.

yes that's very true! we usually talk to our dogs here at home. I read in a magazine that even our dogs have emotions so we really must treat them well. They understand us even though we don't understand their barks.Ü We always say to them that we love them. Dogs are so adorable.Ü

Hi there!
I do the same with my pets. I am single and most of the time alone so they are my best friends and children at the same time.
I know they understand what I say cause they follow my orders and give me expressions as if telling me yes mom hehe. I even tuck them in bed every time it's sleeping time. They're like humans already, babies actually.
I do miss them right now cause I'm out of town and I have to leave them in the care of my maid. When I'm away my maid says my pets looks sad. I know they miss me too.
Ciao!

That's so funny that you said they were like humans, because I always say my dog is like a little person. He sleeps with his head on the pillow on the bed and lays there like a human does instead of curling up on the end like other dogs do. I know he understand me too when I talk because he will tilt his head and lift his ears when I say certain words like names and he know each chew toy he's got by name. If I tell him to go get his ball he gets that, if I tell him to get his squeekee toy he gets that and none of the other ones either.

Oh hi dfinster! Our dogs have similar behavior. My shih tzus sleeps on a pillow too just like little babies hehe. They have their own pillows and stuffs to play with and we always likes to play fetch with their ball. And what's sweet about them is that they like me to carry them. Often times when I'm standing looking at the window or by the door, they would come up to me, stand up like raising their paws trying to reach me. I know the first time they did that they like to be carried.

Hi friend,
In our country there is no place for human being to stay happily, than you can imagine about the place of pets.Generally in common people they won't have money to feed the animals, they themselves feed with lots of difficulty per day.Like wise i am too.I generally don't have pets in my house. So there is no question of talking with them. But it is always good to feed the pets and play with them as like our friend.
Have a nice day

ok, now you've sparked my inerest. What country are you from?
What kind of work do you do?
I can understand the need to feed yourself and not pets, but I do sympathize with you if you live where you are too poor to have even one animal.
Pets help in every aspect of life, at least for me.
I think if I were in your shoes, I'd find a kitty that doesn't eat all the much and besides, they catch mice.
Just wish I could find a way to help you somehow.
I'm always available to chat, so if you need a friend, just send a reply and I'll get it in my email.
Always up and ready for a new freind !

I have three dogs, and I talk to them all the time just as if they were my kids. They may not understand everything I say to them, but I think they understand more than most people would give them credit for knowing.

While it is true animals might not necessarily understand some of the words you say, since dogs can understand up to around 300 or so words... they do understand the tone of your voice and your body language. I'm not that much of a dog person, just because I can't handle them correctly I do love them as long as they're not mine. I'm a cat person and own at this time one black cat with a tiny white spot on her throat. I taught her to sit, to rub my fist on command so she would get a treat and up so that she'd stand to get the treat. Animals are certainly smarter than some people give them credit for. Just think of all the animals that have saved peoples lives, especially when it was carbon-monoxide poisoning or fire in the house. What about the cat and dogs that have been sent to live elsewhere half way across a continent or all the way and somehow made their way back home? I talk to Tosca all the time... I think she got jealous of my computer because she knocked the modem over twice and the hard-drive is shot, a professional wasn't even able to ghost the information from it to the new one.

I tend to do that, too. Cats are really good about making eye contact and actually looking like they know what you're saying. My husband used to shake his head at me when he'd see me talking to our pets. lol I've found it to be very comforting to be able to confide in them. Sometimes you just need to get feelings out, but don't want to talk about the subject with anyone else. Sometimes just getting the words out helps. The fact that they can't answer back sometimes helps. They're good at listening to your side of any story and always seem to agree with whatever your point is.

yes i talk to my pet hamster all the time. I believe that is a must so your pet will be more aquanted to you and obey you more. Nonlovers of animals wouldn't know because they probably think animals are stupid or people who have animals are stupid, and they are very wrong. Animals are just like people they have the same feelings we do. They deserve to be loved and talked to, and not ignored.

I do like to talk to my pets, I have two dogs and two cats, they all understand what I say! :-) I taught them lots of basic command when they were small(dogs) and when they get older, they even understand more than that like some usual talking besides the command; I treat them just like my family member, I love them very much!

We talk to our toy poodle all the time. We treat her like our daughter and a part of our family. And she seemed to understand what we tell her. She knows when we are upset and happy with her. She knows when she has done something totally wrong. She knows when we tell her that she could not tag along when we go out. She knows when we tell her to be gentle with our one year old son.

I have 2 dogs, 2 rats, a fish and a cat, and I talk to ALL of them pretty much constantly. I think I may talk to my pets more than I talk to my animals. It's never seemed strange to me. The do hear what I'm saying, and they can tell from the tone of my voice what kind of mood I'm in, so its kind of like talking to an an infant who hasn't learned to talk back yet.

I ALWAYS talk to my animals like babies. I treat them like my children, cause they're the only ones i have! If you talk to them like they're stupid, they're going to sense you think they're stupid. I talk to mine like humans and they know exactly what i'm saying to them even when they're in trouble. My husband thinks i'm odd sometimes... But i've caught him doing the same thing :)

Nothing wrong with talking to your pets, I do it all the time, lol. I have two cats, and most of the time they look like they're rolling their eyes, like, 'Oh, sure, uh-huh,' then saunter off.

I do not have a pet, but in our neighborhood, I often see people walking with their dogs. They would talk to the dogs as if to their children. And the dogs seem to understand quite well and follow the directions perfectly. Dogs are smart, they can be trained to give intelligent performances. It is more than just verbal direction, but communication with passion.

Absolutely. Dogs, especially, pick up on your moods and tones. If you say NO very forcefully, they understand that. Dogs are very smart. All we used to have to do was say the word "walk" and my dog's ears would perk up and she would go get her leash! Whoever says dogs don't understand is crazy! You keep right on talking to your dogs.
