Several weeks ago we actually had a tornado come through our area. Trees were uprooted and just watching it from our windows and front door was fascinating. A big tree just down from our apartment was bending almost to the ground from the wind, water was higher than we’d ever seen it before and it seemed to go on for hours. The next morning when I took some trash out I saw several little baby birds on the sidewalk and in the grass. They were dead and the nest was on the ground. It was right near the big tree so I’m thinking the nest fell out when the tree was being blown around. I came in and got some paper towels and a plastic bag. I picked up the babies, said a little prayer over them and put them in the dumpster (I would have buried them but we can’t dig here). I just couldn’t leave them lying on the ground. Would you have picked them up and took care of them or just left them lying? Have you ever found anything like this? Does it make you feel sad when you find animals dead? Poor birdies . Man cant survive much out in a voilent storm so imagine the poor little ones being battered to and fro. I would have done as you did. It is hard to watch animals suffer.

Hi twoey, That is sad, I don't like to see any animals get killed like that, especially babies. I probably would have done the same as you. Blessings.

it would depend on how I was feeling, if I felt bad, I probably would leave them and home someone else would do it, but remember, I have trouble leaning over sometimes Heck, I'd've probably driven to the trash dumpster and never seen them.

This is heartbreaking, Twoey. A couple of years ago I was bringing our wheelie bin down from the street when a car of hoons came squealing around the corner. I looked up, and saw a beautiful, big blue-tongue lizard crossing the road - and the car ran straight over the top of it. I was devastated - all I could do was take the poor lizard's body across the road to the bush so nobody else would squash him further. Something like that really stays with you for the whole day.

If I hadn't my daughter would have. She does such things all the time. Her fantasy is to own an old ranch house with lots of land and have a animal sanctuary. I wouldn't leave them lying on the ground. Ofcourse our cats would probably have enjoyed it. Yuck. Not a good visual at all.

What a sad thing to happen, and it would make me feel sad to find them. My husband, sister, and mother too. We're all big animal lovers in my family. If any of us would have found them, we would have done what we needed to do to take care of them, instead of just leaving them there.

Yes, I have found baby animals, usually birds. But they never seem to survive. If humans who are not trained in rehab of animals we seem to do more harm than good. It has always made me sad to see things happen to young animals.

It sure does...poor little things! I would have also picked them up...and probably buried them here as I can dig and make a little grave for them....It's so sad!

You did the best you could with limited options twoey, so kudos to you. I would have done the same thing, although where I live, I would have been able to bury them. In fact, if anyone ever takes the time to dig up my backyard, they're going to think they hit the motherload of 'fossils' there are so many birds, cats, and other critters buried out there.

I would have buried them, since I have an acre to do with what I want. It always make me sad to see animals die before they can grow up to experience their animal lives. It makes me really upset to see people kill them for no reason but for sport. That's just such a waste.
