I got my first CAG a few weeks ago. Does anyone else have an African Grey? What words/phrases do your birds know? How long have you had them? What are their favorite toys?

Yep, I've got a Timneh AG. Got her when she was about 8 weeks old, she's about 2 now. She loves hanging upside down in her cage and playing on her swing. She'll grab on to something on the side then let go to swing lol. She's very good at imitating the microwave and smoke alarms going off, (doesn't do the phone fortunatley, we have it set to a song instead of a ring)whistles songs(pirate song mostly), cat calls. Calls all the dogs by name, calls my daughters by name, says oh oh. We're still working on the words though. She says more stuff, just not very clear yet. They're such a riot :)

Mine tells people to "come in" when they knock on the door!!! I have to be very careful to keep my doors locked. :-) He "answers" the phone when it rings "hello" but thankfully does not imitate it. He does imitate the squeek of my back door though. UGH

Mine says Hi really clear so far. She's only 6 months. How long did it take before your birds spoke more clearly? She mostly mumbles things.

I have an African Gray Parrot! He is so awesome. i bought him 11 years ago. He says so much and immitates the sound of peoples voices so good. I cant say what he says bcoz it is so much. He likes raw hide and wood block toys and has one toy that is sort of long and has a much of raw hides on it and a bell on the bottom of it. he loves to play with that.

Did yours mumble when he was younger? I'm wondering if it's her trying to say new things -- or just mumbling. Mine is getting lots of toys for Christmas - she's already ruined most of the toys I bought her LOL.

Yes, I have an African Grey. I've had him for around 14 or 15 years. As far as what words/phrases he knows, it would be easier to tell you what he does not know I think! This bird talks almost as much as a human. I have a house full of cats and dog and an Amazon parrot. He talks to all of them and knows them all by name. He especially loves to scold all of them calling them bad cats, bad dog, bad bird or whatever when he thinks they aren't behaving properly. In reality he's the meanest critter in the house -- LOVES to bite and I do mean bite!!! He tells me goodnight every night when I go to bed and if I'm distracted or something and forget to tell him goodnight back, he gets a really sarcastic tone in his voice and starts telling himself goodnight until I catch on and tell him goodnight. He's a nutcase!!! LOL

LOL mine bites too-not me everyone else, including the dogs. I know they say it's after the 1st year before they start saying words, but how long before they start talking really good? Mine won't talk to me, she only talks when your in the other room, and she only mimics me. I'll call my daughter and she'll mimic me, but not if I'm there. I just figured she was still a younging, and needs more time.

Hi, yes they speak! They are one of the best talkers in the Parrot world really. Search for Alex the African Grey. It is amazing all of the things he knows (Colors, numbers, words, etc).

I wish I did have one. But I went to the Bookman used bookstore in Huntington Beach,CA and they had 2. They had a playstation set up by the front door and they said quite a lot of things. The clerk said they pick up things from all the store activities. One of them even impersonates the sound of the UPS man's machine. The parrots used to chew on the books, so they made some fake books out of chunks of wood and put them nearest to the birds, and now the birds chew on those instead.
I'd love to take some photos of them next time I go down there.

I'd love to see that! Mine would probably chew the books too. Post pics if you get any!
