it is said that during eclipse we should not eat food, walk out in the open or try to see the sun with naked eyes. how many of you really take adequate precautions? what are you really going to do on this date?

Not eat food or go out in the open? Now I know about the naked eye stuff, but you are not supposed to stare into the sun at anytime, but I have been out and about, and eaten, during one before, without any adverse affects.

good that no ill effects are visible. the results are not immediate, allround and uniform. it may or may not depending on many factors. but as i earler mentioned pregnant women and children are more prone to the ill effects if any and more so the effects are deep rooted , like mutation in the genes which will take generation s to appear!! happy mylotting!!

One should never stare at the sun with the naked eyes, with or without a solar eclipse. I've never heard of the other two things, however I can kind of reason out how they might have come into being. Not walking in the open may have started as a practice to discourage people from looking at the eclipse while it is in progress. Or perhaps it came into being, for economic reasons, to prevent workers from being frightened and leaving their positions to hide? Not eating? Not sure about that one, unless before eclipses were understood there was some kind of religious practice of fasting attached to the phenominum? Do you know other reasons for the not walking in the open or fasting during eclipses? Where I live, we don't get a lot of cloudy weather. However, it seems that whenever something interesting is going to happen - eclipses, meteor showers, comets, etc. - it seems like we can count on rain and clouds for the event. If you get to see it, I hope you enjoy it!

yes dear your response is full of information for all to follow and act upon , useful . most of the donts associated with this kind of phenomenon are related to excessive radiation ar the different type of radiation that may result during the process are known to be high potential and dangerous . even the food like milk or such delicate stuff may have the residual effect which may inturn be harmful. and especially for the pregnant women they are advised abundant caution . lot of mutational changes are attributed to this kind of phenomenon!!

Frankly i am not going to do any of these things since i will be asleep when the eclipse occurs. In India and especially in Mumbai where i live the eclipse will be between 5.30am to 8.00am. At present it is monsoon time here and the sky is covered with clouds so the chance of looking at the sun will not arise at all.Since it is early morning the eclipse will get over before i even wake up so the question of eating or looking at the sun won`t come at all.So for me it is just another day and i will do what i usually do everyday.

The only thing you must not do is look directly at the sun as it could damage your eyesight.it is perfectly alright to eat and live life normally,I always have never heard of anything else except for looking directly at the sun which is dangerous.

I can understand why you are not to look at the sun with naked eye, you can not do that even if their is no eclipse, but i do not understand why you can not eat or be out doors during it. I do not think that i will take any special precautions, as i have not done so during any of the other ones during my life.

I didn't realize we were going to have one of these. The only precaution I know of is not to look at the sun directly, you can look through a pin hole in a piece of cardboard, I don't know if the other things you mention are valid.

Hi, I never heard about not eating food. Though they say that you cannot look at the sun. Once when the eclipse was some years back we were at work and use the computer filter screens we had to see the eclipse. I will try to remember this date so I can see this happening.
