I hate ants! specially the small and red tiny ants. Make sure that the house is clean and no foods scattered around the house and outside. Check were the ants coming from and put pepper on it, then put honey on your garden outside, somewhere far from house, so instead that the ants going inside the house, they will going to the honey. Happy posting.

I used ground black pepper. If you have a garden, you can put honey away from your house, so instead of going into your house, they will going to the honey. hehehe, but since you don't a garden, you just maybe put ground pepper on the hole were those ants coming out, you can pour boiling water too. My hubby taugh me about it. Happy posting.

Hi, rainmark, I could not pour the boiling water into the hole as the hole is up on the wall. So i use the baby powder to block their hole and pour some on the wall. Seems they are afraid of it and never appear. But sure i had to attempt several times as they tried find another way out..then i had job again. But luckily now they dont come into the rooms and living room, only to the kitchen. Kitchen is their heaven now. But not serious like before. Only few ants are there.

Hi, rainmark. Thanks for the suggestions. I hate the ants too! Yeah, you got it, they are all the small and red tiny ants. I could not track where they are from. Perhaps from the the small hole of wall or outside. I live in the apartment, so there is no garden for me to put the honey on. But i doubt this will work?? Perhaps it will generates more ants?? Which pepper should i use? White or black?? I only have white pepper here... Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hi! If you have any grits, you can put out a tablespoon of them and the ants will take them back to the colony where they will eat them and die. Then you will be rid of the ants, and it is a non toxic way to get rid of them. The ants will drink something causing the grits swell, and it will even get rid of the queen.

Hi, dmrone. Your suggestion sounds really great. Especially it will get rid of the queen. But i do not know what is grits??? My husband used used the baking powder to avoid the ants. He said the ants will get them back to their place and eat and explode. But i am not sure it will get rid of the queen or not, he said if the queen eats them then the queen will also die. His family used this method to get rid of the ants. I hope this help too. My mom taught me to use baby powder to avoid them. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hi have a nice day! Thanks for the explanation. I have read from the internet that ants need sugar for their growth. Ants are really clever and their spirit is amazing. But they are annoying though once we find them in the house. There are no more ants in the living room and rooms after i had put my effort to clean the house and put the baby powder several times. Seems like they really don't like the baby powder. Until now the baby powder is still on the wall, i would not want to mop them away in case the ants will come back. Perhaps few months later than i can mop away. Now, only ants go to the kitchen sometimes. I think i have the job again to clean the kitchen and put some baby powder there. I live in the apartment. My mom said the ants don't like baby powder and go to another apartment unit.

I was told the other day by my brother-in-law that to rid the house of ants use salt. Yes just plain table salt. It will not harm the children or pets. The reason it supposedly works is they walk across it and the grains are rough to them and harm them so they will go off and die. I have not tried this yet because I have a spray for them. I will try it if I think of it next time I see one and I have not sprayed. Just to make sure that it works.

Hi, moondancer. I was told this by my father too. But i have not tried it yet. So far i have used venigar, baby powder, and ants spray. But the baby powder works the best. The ants will avoid those area that baby powder are, and find another way. The problem is the ants will always find another way, so i have to put the baby powder to the possibe places that the ants will come from. My house are full of baby powder. It is not good for breathing. Have a nice day.

I think I heard somewhere that if you put salt around the parameter of your home, it'll deter the ants. They don't seem like this. I don't know the reason. That's just what I heard anyway.

Hi, CRSunrise. My father said this to me too. I haven't tried this method yet. I tried to put the baby powder on the wall and the hole that they are coming from. It's been already 1 hour, seems like no more ants coming out from the hole. I hope i will really get rid of them. It's tired to have battle with them all the time. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hello lulumartin, here are some tips that I got. I hope this will help you. 1. Sprinkle common black pepper in areas ants are entering/exiting to prevent them from crossing. 2. Sprinkle talcum (baby) powder around areas that are infected with ants or where you feel ants be drawn such as sugar bowls, pet food and pantry shelves. Even after you wipe it away, the talcum powder will still have some effect so no need to lay it on thick at all. 3. Place bay leaves in key areas around your pantry, storage areas and any other place in your home. 4. Plant mint plants around your exterior windows and doors and basement entrances. You can also scatter dried mint around common ants areas. Ants hate the smell or mint. Good Luck!!

Hi, chi2nasrin. Thanks for the tips. I have sprinkled the baby powder on the areas that the ants walk by. They are really afraid of it and avoid the baby powder. Then they tried to find another way to get out and search for the food. So, i sprinkled the baby powder all over the wall that they would possible to pass by. Then i found their hole and sprinkles the powder there. Wow...No more ants....We are relieved. However, there are still some in the kitchen. I will try to put the mints around the areas and hope it helps. Baby powder is not good for breathe....And we have a baby at home.

The only advice i can give to you is that never put food on the tiles or the dinning table. make sure they are all in the freezer, these ants a re always organize when one see's a food then they will tell others and march to the food. it happens to our kitchen and dinning table. or use another plate, put some water in it, then put another cup then put the food there so that the ants would be able to reach the food. or simply bug spray will do..

You are right, i think put all the food in the containers will help. I don't really want to use the bug spray because of the smell. I am trying some methods like putting the baking powder and baby powder. I hope this will get rid of them. They just invaded my house again becaue i forgot there is one little sweet drink inside my bag. It's not open, but they come for it.

Last time I had to deal with ants in the house we bought can spray ant killer and sprayed the carpet and then bottom part of the walls of the whole house and let in sink in to everything. It seem to have work really well because we did this 2 years ago and there's still no ants in the house.

That is also my problem... i live in a fairly new apartment... but it seems like the ants already took over... there are so many of them... especially during the summer... and the only way to lessen the number is to keep the apartment crumb free or as clean as possible... and to put most edible stuff in the fridge... you should look at how crammed my fridge is right now...

My house has a lot of ants, red, black, big and small, you name it. It's very frustrating. I bought aerosol spray to kill them but eventually they will come back. However, now this problem's solved thanks to my mom. She bought a type of powder and spread it on the floor. The ants didn't appear since then.

Wiping the table top or the kitchen top with a rag soaked with detergent is really effective for me. Also, if possible, have a distance between the wall and the furniture so that the ants can pass walk pass through from wall to your furniture. Keeping your things clean are always the best remedy for unwanted insects or pests but I guess even if we keep our things 100% clean, they are still unavoidable from time to time.

Yes. Same here. Leave them alone. Every living things has the right to live. I think they are seasonal on our house. I mean, not all the whole year round they stay on our house. I just sweep them and take away what they are been gathered for. Like something sweet on the floor or any mess that they like to eat...

I am not sure whether they are only here seasonal as the weather here is always the same. I just cannot leave them alone, i am afraid they will attack my baby. It's kind of scary thing when i imagine they are around my baby. I hope they just go away from my apartment.

Try vinegar I have found that it works very well. Also drawing a chalk line for some reason ants won't cross it.

Me too has a problem with Ants. I wonder where these creatures came from. I've been cleaning the house again and again, yet they keep on coming back. The worst is, its red ants, and when they bit you, god it really hurts. Thank you for this topic, tomorrow i'll try some of the sprays suggested in here. Hope it'll work.

Sometimes my house toilet also got ants and my Mother-in-law bought an ant-killer(in powder). It is avail in the market and if not mistaken this ant-killer is from China. Just spread the powder at the hole of the wall where usually the ants come out from....don't wet that area and let it be for 1 night. The next day the ants will die.

I bought some spray called Orange Guard from Amazon.com. You can use it in the house or outside of the house. I bought it for outside. It is pet safe and food safe also if it happens to be around them. It will keep the ants away.

Hi lulu, That is terrible to get ants in the house, I remeber when we went to Spain one year, our place was full of ants, we had to get a sray to get rid of them, if not squeeze some lemon juice on over your tops and leave for a few minutes then wipe over. Tamara

The best way to get rid of ants is by killing them. But of course, that would make your conscience a bit disturbed. On the other hand, you can avoid or prevent the ants from going out from their sanctuary by cleaning your house and try not to leave food lying around, specifically sweetened food.
