This afternoon I am picking up my 2 grandsons at my wifes work. I am taking them to the COunty Fair in my area. Mainly for the MotoCross races at 6 tonight. Both boys love seeing the motorcycles racing and jumping the dirt track. It is cheap entertainment plus there's the typical carnival foods to be had as well. It costs $8 for an adult and the Grandstand Show is free and I think kids are $5 to get in so it is a cheap family funtime indeed. No rides for the kids though on the Midway. Those are costly and not worth it in my eyes anyhow. They'll understand. I hope anyhow they will. Hahaha! When was the last time you went to a County or State Fair? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Sounds like you and the boys will have a really nice time. I am sure they will understand about not riding the rides. They will get their enjoyment watching the motoCross races and just being with you. Our State Fair is so far away and I have never been there. I have been to the Fair Grounds but not during the fair. Have a fun and safe night.

It might rain too. But the races wqill still be held unless it is a severe storm. SO I am geared up for some fun with the boys. My State fair starts next month and it is only about 15 minutes away from me. Since I've lived in Minnesota (1975) I have yet to miss going to the Minnesota State Fair at all. I make it at least once each year. Some years I go two or three times it is so large. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

No rides??? Watch for wristband specials. Those are usually a pretty good deal, many fairs offer them during the late mornings and early afternoons, when the rides are slowest. There's nothing like carni foods...I can smell the onions and peppers now. It's not good for ya, but heck, it's not like you eat it every day, right? Have a good time!

Well, I ended up going on a few rides with them afterall. We had a HUGE windstorm with very heavy downpour last about 45 minutes around 4 p.m. Got about 1 1/2 inches of rain in that time. It got very sunny right bewfore the motocross races started so it turned out to be a great time all in all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

It was horrendous but bearable. We had an umbrella but sat under a canopy that was quite large. Even sitting in the middle of it we got drenched due to the high winds blowing the rain straight. Fun times were had by me and the grandsons none the less. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Perfect timing for the storm, huh? Gets everyone off the rides, and a little extra mud for the Motocross is never a bad thing, right?

The demo derby at our County Fair is the largest in MN. But it is held all day Sunday and that is the day my daughter is having a huge party for her B-Day, her hubby's B-day and their Anneversary. SO I won't see thew demo derby this year. My wife loves going to see the demo derby too. MY fave food is the roasted corn on the cob and of course the funnel cakes with strawberries and cream on top. YUMMMMYYYY! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

We had a blast. I did not take the camera as I knew we were in for a HUGE storm. We got hit with about 1 1/2 inches of rain in 45 minmutes time with 50 MPH winds as well at times while there. But the sun came out in time for the races although it was a muddy track. Loved seeing the mud fly all over as they raced. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

When I lived in Los Angeles, we went to the San Fernando Valley fair (yep, I'm a valley girl and I DON'T talk like that lol) most years, but somehow I never made it to the county fair in all the 40+ years I lived there. Here in Sacramento, I've made it to the state fair 3 years out of 4, but I keep missing the various county fairs that are around. Next year maybe.

Grandpa Bob I hope you and the kids enjoy your evening! I have not been to the fair in quite some time. Probably went to the state fair two years ago. I went with my work, we all got in for free but had to pay for our own rides. I took my kids and spent quite a bit of money on tickets for rides and of course the wonderful food! We enjoyed it very much though. I hope you all have so much fun!

The last time I went to the state fair, I think I was around fifteen. I went with my church youth group. I have no idea what we did, but I remember I had fun. It seemed back then all I had to do to have fun was simply to be around people. I miss being around people. But I don't miss being a teenager.

I have not been to a state fair in ages. We do not live very close to any now that we moved away. The rides are very costly though. We plan to go to an amusement park sometime in August though.

It's been a few years. The last time I went to the State Fair was 17 years ago. I've wanted to go a few times since then, but just never got the chance to do so. And here the State Fair is right here in Sacramento so it's practically right next door. Okay, so it's not that close, but it's still close, just the same. LOL As far as a county fair goes, I don't recall ever going to one, so I'd have to say never. So, did you and your grandsons have a good time at the fair? Any pictures to share?

Let's see, I had a footlong hot dog with chili and onions, I also had a foot long corn dog, and of course a Funnelcake. Plain this time though with just powdered sugar. Weathered a huge wind and heavy rainfall that dropped one and a half inches of rain but the sun came out just in time for the races. Wooo Hooo! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

That sounds like fun, wished I could of went, I like to watch Motocross racing too. We have a state fair every year in October, its been a few years since I've gone though. I always like to go into the expo building where they have all the different booths and where all the freebies are..lol. I also like the food, especially the long corn dogs, I would go just to be able to get one of those. They had a carnival in the next town from me on the July 4th weekend, it looked like fun, I know everybody went to that. I'm sure the grandsons had fun, they probably didn't complain about not getting to ride anything, just being with grandpa was fun..

That is a great thing to do with your grandkids. I hope you all have a good time. There is nothing more special than spending quality time with the grandkids. School is about to start and they will have some exciting things to share with their friends, things they did while on summer vacation. We don't have many fairs around here. We will have to travel long distance to attend if there are any in our area. Enjoy your day with the boys.

Hi Grandpa Bob - sounds like a great time. The last time I went to the Fair was when I was in high school. Though I'm planning to go this year - with the bf and the family. I'm sure it hasn't changed all that much - but I've heard some good stuff about the food that they serve. That it's much healthier and better-tasting. SO that's definitely worth going. I'm also taking my little cousins, so that's another reason to go. Well, have fun!

I went to concerts at the State Fair last year with adult clients. They look forward to it every year.Love to hear the music booming in those big speakers. They have a separate night when they go to the exhibits and midway, some like one evening and some like another. I am hoping to get to go with just hubby for a full day this year. State Fair is in September.

I went to the LLoyd Ex last summer - i missed it this summer i was doing other things. About 2 years ago i went to the Minnesota state fair. That was neat....different from here because there wasnt a rodeo or any chuckwagon racing. I didnt even HEAR a demolition derby! It was also a TON of people i dont think i' had ever seen so many people crammed into one area like that before. I liked the Renaissance festival alot more. Not so crowded.

Hi GRANDPA BOB, We don;t have County Fair or state fair here, we only have summer fair with funfair rides and stalls also there are food stalls too but I haven't gone to those things for many years, each time it comes round I keep saying I'll have to go but never do, there always something else to to, never get the time. I haven't been to the fair in a few years. I went about a year before pregnant. I couldn't go when pregnant. I couldn't go when I didn't have a sitter. THis year I am planning to go. My son is going also. I will be planning to go early when Its still daylight that way its not to crowded and risky for my son.
