Why do you turn down new friend requests?

I know I turn them down when I go to their profile and its just LOADED with money making sites. I've deleted friends because they "spam" my PM with money making site links and I've become wary of those people who have lots of the banners on their profile page.
So, if you have recently been denied my friendship, it may be because I'm afraid you are a PM spammer of websites you want me to join under your name.
I have over 400 friends, I don't want to be asked to join other websites, I can barely keep up with this one, and take care of the rest of my "real" life.
So, do you turn down people for reasons? For this reason? If not for this reason, then why do you turn them down?

I go to a prospective new frineds page and look over the activity there. Discussion content and such. If I find them to be offensive of course I deny. Like you I really don't have the time for many new friends. I will friend someone though if I like there discussion content and their page.

Usually I deny someone if I go to their profile and there is no started discussions and no replied to discussions...I figure their not active here after all. Also if they have discussions but none that we have in common...say someone who only talks about wrestling, I'm not into wrestling so we wouldn't have anything to talk about. I also don't accept any that their speech is so bad that I can't decipher what they are trying to say...I know they can't help it but there isn't much point in having someone as a friend if you can't understand anything they are saying. The huge list of money making sites doesn't bother me as long as they show that's not the only reason they are here.

I do look at the person's interests. If I find no interests in common, then I generally don't accept them. For example, we know how much I love cats, so if I see cats/kittens in their interests I'm more likely accept them. If they respond to one of my very specific interests, like Doctor Who, I'm MUCH more likely to request or accept them.

I don't usually get alot of spam thank heavens. I have turned some down from a certain country, they are men & they all seem to be alike, bossy, abrupt, know it all's so i just prefer not to have them on my friend's list.

for me I like to keep my circel of friends on any website small. If I had a lot I would be overwhem with requsest, e-mails, comemnts, and anythign easle. I can only spend so much time on the web so I have to be carful of my choices. I also check there profile and decied on if I like them or not. so long as they meain certin crtiria like speaking the same lanage, I will friend them.

For me I always look at the profile and see whether or not they've responded to one of my discussions and if they have I tend to see what they wrote and whether or not its one of those flimsy responses or if it actually had a ton of detail. If there is a lot of detail involved I normally accept and if there isn't any real depth to them I delete because I feel its more of that spam friend which I've gotten in the past. Now if they haven't I look at their score and the higher the more I tend to accept because it seems like they care more and they aren't the newbies that again like to spam you with referral links.

hehe...until now, i wont turn down any friend.
but i dont know if i'll do it or not when i have the same number of friends as u, lol...
they can pm me and ask me to join under them, if i feel good maybe i'll follow. but if not, i just forget the links, hehe...maybe just i have only less than 100 friends, so i still have enough time to deal with it.hehe...

There are quite a few of us who will refuse a friend request until they've posted a decent response in our discussions. However, because of unjust incidents involving two friends, I'm not accepting any requests. It even says so right on top of my avatar on my profile.
However, someone posted a VERY sensible thing to do. If you accept a friend who requested you, & they sent you a message to join a site under them, it's all explained here:
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2065070.aspx
In other words, with the person who started this discussion &/or me, if we get spammed, chances are, you'll find your membership here & on the sites you've spammed with canceled, & all forefeit all your earnings on those sites, leaving you with nothing to spam people with.

If you actually send an abuse message to the site that they spammed , hopefully, those webmasters of those sites will take action, especially if we ALL report it to the various program owners.
There's this one guy who keeps requesting me & I keep denying, because word does spread about this guy. It seemed that his insistence caused his star rating to PLUUUUMMMMMMEEEEeeeeeeeeettttt ... That will also mean he will be earning less for his discussions here.

I check out their interests and if they're too divurgent from mine, I'll pass. Also for your reason, even though it was through a money-making site that I became aware of and joined myLot.

I accept any friend request i recieve. If someone PM me with invitation to join their site, if im a part of it already, i dont join them..the reason why im accpeting them is because i wanted to broaded my horizon and wanted to check out new discussion theyre posting.

the types I'm talking about really don't post many discussions - one had been here 2 yrs and only had about 100 posts, the one that first got me was here from before I got here until about a year ago, and only had 8 posts - not much use for friends..

If they have low numbers, they have not been on here with enough discussions and replies. I will not accept anyone under 500.

I don't even bother to go to their profile. I just accept; if they participate in discussions I will set the alert to be notified of their new discussions if not, no biggie.

I just delete those PMs and figure they will get themselves into trouble and myLot will delete them.

I have never turned down a friend request on MyLot. How are we going to find new people, if we deny requests from people we don't even know? How can we tell whether we do or do not want to be friends with these people just on the basis of a few items in a prifile? An interesting question.

I don't. I add everyone that requests my friendship. Sure, sometimes I will get a PM asking to join under them, but I usually just ignore it. If I do reply back I tell them something like "thank you, I'm not interested" and leave it at that. However, I didn't always add everyone. In fact I often hit the deny button when I was still new to mylot. But after I read a discussion about it I decided to accept everyone and not deny anyone. And for the most part it works for me.
Happy mylotting!

I am wary of spammers and profiles filled with money making banners unless it is a long standing MyLotter. I have only denied one request; it was from someone I spotted on someone’s discussion being very rude and quite nasty. Upon reading this person’s comments I decided she was not someone I would want to befriend.
I had another one pending for a long time and when I checked it again the other day I noticed the account was gone!

I have turned down people for tha same reason. I'm also a little leary if they just out of the blue request me without having responded to my discussions or without having had me respond to theirs. I always check their profile too. Just to see what their activity has been.

Oh, i cant hurt anyone by denying his/her friendship request because i can understand how one feel after being rejected. If any of my friend will spam me then firstly i will request him/her not to do so but he/she still continue doing that so obviously i will delete that person from friend list. But as we know all are not same so i cant reject anyone just by watching at the profile. Happy mylotting!

well im new to mylot and have accepted every friend request. and well from your point of view i understand. i would reject friends if i recently started getting spam. and wow well 400 friends thats what you can expect. with so many friends maybe you should delete some if they spam you. which is most likely what you are doing.

actually, I'm not accepting them from the get go, so I'm avoiding the main part of the spamming
honestly, I've discovered that there are certain countries/sexes besides the banners and making money interests that are more likely to do the spamming too
