Whenever we start a new discussion, we will receive a responses either a lot of it or just 2 or 3 responses. The common practice is we leave a comment on every responses that we received. If you are the responder, are you give a comment back to the comment that you receive?
Since this is a discussion, I think it is best to give a comment back if we have something to comment. It will bring the discussion alive and the more people involve in one particular response is the best.
I always look if give something back on the comment that I receive just to keep the discussion more meaningful. But sometimes I just don't know what to say again.
How about you? Does you comment back?

I think you answered your own question when you said 'sometimes I just don't know what to say again.' If you have nothing to say, don't say it! This may sound obvious, but think about it. As MysDianait rightly pointed out, quality is what matters on Mylot, and to make a quality comment, you need something to go on. Perhaps something a respondent said triggered a thought, or you remembered a point you hadn't made originally which applies to what has been said. In that case, you have the makings of a comment on a comment! It's good to extend the discussion, but only if you have something to add to it. Hope my thoughts help - this is a good topic, as it will clear points up for a few people.

This is indeed a good topic!
I think that we are also going to see some examples of how responses can be extended too as I can already see some friends here who are now making a habit of doing it on several discussions.
Talking of friends... I hope you will accept

Hi sandra1952,
As long as the discussion crater didn't kill of the discussion I think we can still drag it. They (I do it sometimes too ) killed the discussion by given a "thank you for your response and have a nice day" comment. But if they didn't said that then we still can find one way or another to continue it.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Hi there!
I'm a chatterbox so I usually find something to say over and over again I can usually 'feel' from the way the response is written whether the responder will com back and comment again too and I also have many friends who I now know will do just that so Ileave a comment with something they can add on to.
Many of us are aware that the more comments we leave and the longer the thread in the response becomes then the more we are earning because that is exactly what myLot tell us. They say:
'Post quality content. For example, generate discussions that engage other users and provide insightful responses and comments to other users discussions to further the topic'
That's why I ramble on here too and not only offline

Hi mysdianait,
I knew you are really like that. Sometime I see a long discussion for 1 tread by you. Before this I am happy to see my response been comment by the discussion creator. But now I always try to drag the discussion to feather extend. I feel it more meaningful. Sometimes it might being out of topic but who cares. Just have fun and enjoy your online life.
Longer tread mean more earning? Never thought about that. Maybe I didn't read the guideline enough. Thanks for the info.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

I try not to go off topic but sometimes it's inevitable.
I find that stopping off ona rsponse and continuing the comments is also a great way to get to a user better, especially when they are quite new. I have made many friends here because we have had long back and forths on responses over the months here.
You said you're used to me doing it now too
so I take that as an open invite

Yeah ... it more lively if we concentrate on one tread. Look at very one comment on one particular thing. But most of the new user didn't like (or know) it. They treat this like question and answer and not discussion. Maybe we should try drag them to write more on one tread.

Hi Akuler, if you make sure you start a discussion that is actually of interest to you then you will appreciate the responses and should have something to comment back on. If you are struggling to comment back maybe the subject you started didn't really interest you in the first place.
Now the other day I posted a question relating only to how something actually workd on mylot hoping for an answer which would make using mylot easier. Within in a few responses I had the answer I needed. But the responses kept coming, and coming. I struggled to then comment back and resorted to saying that the question had ALREADY been answered in the responses above. Now this was a technical question and people had obviously thought out ways to help me but it had already been answered, I kept saying it. I awared best response to try to stop it, it made no difference. I believe it is the height of rudeness to not comment back but I struggled on.
Motto being, don't start a topic which has an easy answer and don't post a topic unless you are likely to have enough intereset in the subject to keep it going!

You're right in that. The starter have interest in the subject she/she is posting. If don't have how could it be that the discussion become alive.
If received comment to my comment, i commented back. There are instances, that the comment was saying thank you for your response, happy mylotting, thanks for joining, have a nice day, then i do not comment back again. By saying that it means to me that the starter or the someone that comment is not interested to comment back again if you comment back to the thank you stuff.

Hi glesil_00,
I do most of the time ending up my response or comment with greetings. But that doesn't mean I would not come back after that unless I give just "thank you for your response and have a nice day" response without anything else. If the discussion creator give a long and add on point on his/her comment then we should try to comment back on that. I think our problem is because we made too much assumption without trying it first.
Hope to hear from you again and have a nice day.

Hi thea09,
Sometimes interest or ideas came when we saw the comment. May might not think about it but when we read the comment, we will think something that we can add on.
Before this I am very frustrated whenever I can't make a new discussion. But now I am happy with that. I can concentrated on my one discussion and always gave a comment on that.

For me, i just coming back to user who comment to my responses!. If they comment again, i will reply again and again until 3 or 4 conversation. That is usually i do. I will write any about discussion to make their discussion alive and we both can earn some money. That is all we hope, right?

I know, just Do not take it to much, will ya?
I mean we have not hoping them always answer our responses.
But i have a little trick to engage more comment from our responses.., which is in the last word or last sentence in our whole comments should make it their interest to reply...

I always go back to the discussion that I had responded. I do it 8-9 times a day. And to be there and see that there is no comment on my response make me frustrated. And more so if my response already being there for 2 or 3 days.
Does it work? I should try it sometimes. Thanks for the idea. If you have any other ideas on how to make our discussion more lively please don't hesitate to share with me. I would gladly to practice it.

Hi anangf,
That's what we should practice. This is discussion ... right and discussion need us to share or make a point for our thought. To keep the discussion alive is a best part of discussion but to earn from it is the better part.
The problem here most of the time is we didn't received a comment for our response or if we received it, its only a few word comment that totally uninvited for discussion to go on. We always see this from newbies or someone who post to many discussion or post a few discussion but received a huge no of response.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

akuler, I will not just comment on the responses, but I will also rate them in order to ensure that it is a good practise. I believe when you start rating the discussions, you will have increase the person rating, it will also ensure that I read them though :) Happy MyLotting

Hi cwong77,
Giving a rating to the responses or comments that we received is very good practice. It is how we valued their responses or comments. The star beside our username are the measure how people value our thought in this site. And it should give some indicator on how we should treat their thought. But, I found out that this rating is not a very good indicator though. Some trolls has misused it to bring down some people star point here.
Happy mylotting and have a pleasant evening.

Maybe because of jealousy or other personal issues. Some trolls do it for fun. They like to gave a - rated on every discussion that their target involved. That is the negative side of this star rating. Everybody can give a rating even though they didn't involve in that particular discussion.

Hi karenrosesalazar,
No one forced to give a comment on response that they received. But it is a courtesy for him/her to do that for the sake of that discussion to be alive. Mylot is using a discussion format and not question and answer session. And if you are here to earn some money, that is what you should have. A long tread will give you extra money. Involving in long length discussion also make us more knowing each other if we are looking for friends here.
But if you just came here for fun and not concern about earn extra, then I can't say anything else.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Well, I dont always comment back because there isnt always a need too. Like you said, sometimes there just isnt anything to say!
It all depends I try to treat these as if they were real face to face discussions. And when people have them we dont always feel the need to say something back, right?

Hi marlena18042,
Some comment from the discussion originator usually killed the discussion. Comment with one sentence like "thank you for your comment", "I agree with you" or "you have a point there" are the end of this discussion. It is okey for them to said that if they give a further point why that saying that. Like "I agree with your that this blah blah blah ....." At least we ma find something interesting to add on.
We should treat this one as a face to face discussion. And this is not question and answer session. I think we all should go back to read the meaning of "discussion". Seems to me that most of us here didn't know it.
You have a good point there and I do hope to hear some more from you again.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Hi akuler,
Well sometimes when I find the conversation very ineteresting I make sure that I get to comment back on the comment that other mylotters gave me..Like what you said in that way the conversation will be more interactive and interesting..and it's somehow making me happy because I get to interact with others by sharing ideas..:)

Hi Azaerus,
Yeah ... it is good if we can just discuss about everything like offline world here. I do always go back to the discussion that I respond and look what others saud about my response. Sometime uninteresting topics become interesting when we have a different idea on how this or that should work. And we can share our thought there.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Hi yezhanjun043,
If the discussion is looking for technical problem solving, it could stopped once they find the solution. But for the share you thought discussion, I will be more complex. This type of discussion would have pro and con on their subject. This one usually take a long length over arguing. Until one party conceded a defeat or they can't find the same conclusion, this discussion would never ended.

Hi akuler,
Mostly, i try to comment back, as in the way the poster and me can have a good and deep discussion on the topic. That will make the discussion more intersting. But many poster did not comment back. So in overall condition, this chance is very slow. Additionally, my response to the others posts received very litter back-comments, except your back-comments. I think maybe my comments is not good enough to attract them comment back. Some grammer mistakes may aslo take some contribution. But i am trying to make some improvement on them. Can you do me a favor? If you find some grammer mistakes on my posts or responses, may you give your correction, when you available. If you not do this, it's ok. Don't be mind. I will appreciate you, no matter you give some advice or not.
Happy mylotting! My friend!

Hi sutent,
Sometimes I do it on purpose to make your discussion more alive. Don't assume too much buddy. Just do it and look if they coming back. I feel the same when I first started but now I love to do it. Even more that is one way for us to get extra.
About your grammar ... emmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I am afraid that I can't help you on that. I also in the middle of learning it. I have learn a lot in here. I do check a dictionary or English grammar sometimes. But most of the time I only type whatever played on my mind and hope other didn't mind if I do mistake. And most of us here never bother about typing error or grammar.
Good luck buddy and have a nice day.

Hi chedvah,
English grammar is the major issues for me. This is very important especially when I have to make a post here or in my blog. I am from Malaysia and never (or too little) used English in my daily communication. If you could give some help to improve my English grammar then it is a HUGE assistance. Sometimes I do mistake on a very simple grammar rules like past, present and future tense. It is annoying to do that more so if we communicate with a professional where English grammar is part of their main concern.
I hope you can accept my friend invitation. Have a nice day.

If you want some help with your grammar, just add me as your friend and let me know what kind of help you'd like. This is the exact type of thing I will eventually be having my own website to do for people. English is my major. LOL. While your post has many grammar issues, it is still understandable. I would assume that English is not your native language. If you'd like, I could help you with one grammar concept at a time. And don't worry; you are not alone with grammar and typing mistakes. I applaud you on knowing your weakness and wanting to improve. I think that's great! I wonder, sometimes, if others bother to use the preview button first. I know I have to fix a number of my own mistakes before I hit the final submit. LOL.

Helo Akuler.I do comment back often, and I think one should comment back to improve the topic of discusion. When I don't understand what to write or comment back,I just thank the responder for the response.I think that will do.Once,on a discussion ,I got so many responses, that I did not reply to all.I just, did send them a friend request.Have a great day.

Hi devmitra,
That is important for us to comment back because that is the discussion principles. Discussion is not a question and answer session and its has to developed. We should try to put an add-on value on it.
That is the good way to get a new friends here. But it is more nicer if you could comment on their response. Just to add more sweetness on the friendship.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

I feel about like chatterbox does. I always try to comment on the ones that I open up. I am guilty of If the title doesn't strike me or stick out then I usually don't open to read or comment. Although I have been going to the "no response" section trying to read and comment on the oldest discussions. I feel by me doing this it will give that person a chance to continue on here at mylot.

Hi resopedel64,
It is our responsibility to comment on every responses that we received as a courtesy for the responder. If they have time and effort to give their thought, it is only fair if we can spend ours to reply back. I hated to see my response didn't received any comment as they look like didn't bring any meaning for the discussion creator or at least to shown that they had read it.
It is very good for you to done that. Some good and interesting topics are killed by not receiving any response. And I think that is always happen here since most of us didn't want to involved in hated argument or make a serious thought about some topics. The most popular topics here is your daily routine discussion where no one can argue with you.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

I think one should comment back if the comment would have substance and add to the discussion. Otherwise, it is superfluous - just hot air, so to speak - and probably won't be worth much money, anyway. Sometimes, when I read a comment left by the one who initiated the discussion, I think: "Okay, that's a good point," or "Thanks for responding," or "I agree with that." However, if I don't have anything substantial to add to my original thought I won't publish another response. This isn't like my online classes where I had to count the number of posts I responded to in order to meet the minimum requirement for the week. Also, if I'm not in the mood to get into a heated debate I don't respond back. Instead, I think, "Okay, I said my piece and you said yours. We're not going to convince each other, so why bother trying." Maybe I just haven't found a discussion worth getting into such a debate. LOL. There are some comments where I'd like to respond back with more personal examples or questions, but I feel those belong in private responses to the person, not in the public discussion.

Hi chedvah,
Some comment that we received on our response actually killed the discussion. Comment like "thank you for response", "I agree with you" and "that correct" with out further explanation seem to be not so encouraging for us to comment back. That's totally end of the story.
To avoid argument also put a full stop for the discussion. But argument sometime is a good point for us to keep responding. The different point of view for certain thing will make a discussion more interesting. I certainly love to involve in this as long as there is not swearing or racism remarks made. We came here to make a discussion and friends and not to hate each others.
I prefer not to comment or response on a private matters. I think that should stay we they are belong.
Thanks for a good response and I do hope I can hear from you again.
