Home Alone - Do you shut the door while showering/pooping?

When you are home alone and are absolutely sure that no one will be back or be around for that whole day, or at least for the next few hours. Do you shut the door while taking a shower? Do you shut the door if you need to use the bathroom? If you do shut them, do you lock them? When I am alone at home, I dont shut the door while showering or using the bathroom. I have a phobia that if I shut the door, the door will suddenly get locked and I'll be trapped in there and left to die! So I never shut the door when I am alone. If I do need to shut the door, which I NEVER, I'll never locked it! What about you?

I do exactly the same as you! Whenever I am alone, I love to bath with the door open widely, Ha Ha, more relaxing! Because when my kids are at home, I must shut and lock the door. Else they will keep on disturbing me and my bath time will never end. So I will shut the door just to avoid being disturb by my kids.

And when you husband is around you leave it open even wider? I find it scarier to lock the door when I am alone as I wont be able to see what is going on outside...

You must be fond of watching too much horror movies. :) Yes, I always make it a point to lock the door when I'm home alone no matter what my activity is - whether it be sleeping, watching tv, showering or yes, even pooping. :) I guess I'm just scared some stranger would let themselves in and well do some terrible things. Yes, the horror movies I watched have an influence on that. :) But seriously, I think as a people we have become increasingly cautious because of the increasing crime rate that's going on around us. We can never be too careful. As the saying goes, better be careful than sorry! ;)

I usually shut the door when going to the bathroom, because I can turn on the exhaust fan while I am in there, and it usually helps to confine the smell. However, when I am taking a shower, I do not usually close the door, because the mirror in the bathroom doesn't fog up as fast with the door open.

I am almost 6-feet tall and I weigh close to 250 pounds. I don't think these cheap interior doors/door frames would keep me in there very long if I really needed to get out of the bathroom. LOL

I shut the door because here there is no telling when someone will either be home, or awake. My fiance's father works third shift so he sometimes gets up at odd times of the day because he can't sleep. So if I leave the door open there's a chance he might see me in the bathroom or atleast hear the shower running if it's that. If my fiance and I are home alone and it's just us, and say a few minutes after his parents left, then I might leave the door open. I don't have a phobia of locked doors at home.

We also live on a quiet road. The only sounds heard are nature, or cars coming home or from the farm...

Dear submerryn, Have you wonder why you are fear of shutting the door? May be you have a bad experience when you are younger? I remembered when I was 7 years old, I went to my eldest sister's place..for school holiday! So, when I take my bath, I locked the door, but no one told me that the lock was faulty, and I am alone all by myself! I tried and tried to open the door but to no avail. I nearly cried... and I prayed so hard in my heart... at last the door opens... I forgotten totally about it until this discussion here... For myself, I alway close the door but I do not locked unless I think I need to (for some reason...) Thanks and take care :)

When I was 9, I got trapped in the elevator alone. I cried and prayed not to let me die there! Hahahaha.. I was only 9 then and I thought I might die if no one found me. Thankfully, my Dad realised that I was gone for sometime and went to check on me. He, being a fireman, is a pro at unleashing locked items and manage to free me. When he opened the elevator door, I was half way between two floors! Can you imagine how horrible that was? I was shaking so badly...

Dear submerryn, I went to check my mail inbox...wow, so many mails from myLot. As I clear line by line, I got your comments. Sorry for late reply.. Thank God you are safe, and your hero (daddy) came for the rescue...I am really proud of your father! Do you remember why you went inside the elevator alone? How it ended up in between floors? That's so scary...If I am you at that point of time, I think I 'pengsan' (fainted) already. Even though you are crying, you are still a very brave girl! Take care and all the best!

LOL! wow.. very interesting question. but yes. i do. I feel safer. I lock it too. If i don't i want to get out fast. disturbing. lock-phobia eh? i once went to this hotel where the bathroom door was crazy. when i wanted to come out, it didn't even budge. felt really locked in. started pulling like crazy (i don't scream for my brother or sister until i know its very very bad, or they'll make fun of me for the rest of my life). after pulling for minutes. it opened. the door frame was smaller than the door or something like that. wonderful holiday. got stuck in the bathroom 3 or 4 times per day. hahahaha.

I do! good thing our door doesnt have that problem. But when im alone at home and have to take the shower, i lock the door. Because our next doors neighbors little boy always gets inside the house without anybody's permission, he always gets spanked because of it though, but then to prevent him from coming inside while im showering, i make sure to lock the door.

Oh goodness, how can your neighbours little boy access your home so freely? You dont lock your main door? In my country, it is a practise to lock the main door. People dont get in and out of our house freely without ringing the bell first.

Even i am alone at home i shut the main door, and leave the bathroom door open. I do not know if someone will suddenly come in if i do not lock the main door. It doesn't happen yet but i am making it sure. I keep it open if i am not in the bathroom, but moist of the time i lock the main door even i am not in the bathroom and here just sitting in front of the computer.

My main door will always be locked definitely. It's just the washroom that is my concern. Getting trapped in there is definitely not something nice. So small space with no food in there. I just cant imagine it!

If the main door is already lock i do not lock the bathroom. I am not afraid of being trapped because the lock is inside and you are the one who will open it and someone inside could not even they have key for it. I am saying of the door that the bathroom here do have. No one can open it except someone inside it if it is lock.

I always shut my doors, all the doors. I will lock the entrance doors and I will shut the bathroom door. My cat or rather my daughters cat has a phobia about closed doors and will open them. I am paranoid about leaving doors open, in fact I can not stand to have the door open when I am in the bathroom. I live with two females and it does not change anything, if I could I would lock the bathroom door. I do understand your phobia however, when my child was young, single digits young, she locked the bathroom door and decided to clean. The horror or mixed chemicals and a locked door almost ruined me about door shutting but I got over it. I believe in doing what makes you comfortable so to open up and be comfortable.

No matter whether or not I am alone, I always shut and lock the door. Unknown people sometimes suddenly appear in front of the door. It happened to me. They sneaked in without me knowing it.

Well I can always hear my husband or daughters when they come into the house. That is unless I am taking a shower. But I always take one in the morning, mostly, when I am at home alone with my toddler. I leave the door open and she usually sits on the potty and entertains me with her singing. I don't want to be stuck in a bathroom with the door shut, taking a shower, and the lights burning out. This would freak me out!

When others are in the house i lock it. When I am home alone I MOSTLY close it, but sometimes I leave it open. But then I need to be in a hurry.. when I shower it is always closed and mostly locked, I am naked though. But when on the WC, not allways d:

Hi friend, I always shut the door while showering.I feel uncomfortable if i don't shut the doors.Without shutting the door i can't go to bathroom.See friend keep one thing in mind, living and dying is not exactly in our hands. These two are controlled by only one person ie.God.So why to fear friend.Don't fear for anything.Keep faith in him and do each thing bravely. All the best. Have a nice day

Hi there, I am not exactly afraid to die, just more afraid to get trapped in there for a very long time without being found! Hence the need to let it open when I am alone.. thanx. :)

I always lock the door when I'm showering because that makes me feel safe. Sometimes relatives or my family's friends will come over, ya never know when there's company coming. I just feel safer when I lock the door, I'm scared that someone will bust in through the door and see me naked. lol When I'm on the toilet, it's different. I do close the door but I don't lock it because who would want to see someone taking a crap or peeing? I wouldn't. Plus, there is nothing good to see when I'm on the toilet. lol

i will shut the door even if i'm at home alone . This should be a habit for me . i love to hide myself sometimes and shutting the door makes me feel safe .And then i can enjoy taking shower inside for as long as i want . The feeling is good. With the door open i just keep thinking whether there's sb who will come in soon . That make me feel uncomfortably.

I always, without question, close the door when I'm showering or using the bathroom. Maybe that might change once I have a place of my own, but right now I'm sharing an apartment with two other people and I like to have my privacy.

Of course, of course. You are sharing an apartment, it is understood for you to keep the door shut. Your roomies might feel weird if you leave them ajar! Hahhaa..
