Ragging is a crime(as the government says) which most colleges are trying to suppress. They are only seeing the negative effect of ragging. But,according to me,when I was ragged in the first year of my college,I didn't like it at first, but then it brought me more closer to my seniors. Also,it made me more tough,as now a days when one person gets a job,he is often ragged professionally by his/her seniors in that particular working environment. So,by me if a person is ragged at the college level,he develops an experience,so that he/she doesn't get a mental breakdown at the job..

i think you mean hazing...but im not sure...if you do then no...i dont think its fair...i relize that its does make people less weak and build confidence for curtain situations.....but i feel for the most part there usually aint any benifits from it...jus people wanting to feel better about themselves...i think that some of the hazing traditions in fraturnities are alright because usually the person doesnt get physicly or emotionaly harmed.....but some of them pranks are jus plain cruel and really hurt people....i have kinda mixed feeling about this because it is a cruel world and i think that it helps people prepare for the world and how its gonna be....later in life you will run in to bumbs that are far worst then the traditional hazing ou get in collage....

Ragging is surely a crime and it should not be supported in the campuses. Everyday in the newspaper, therez news about such instances and are becoming common. Itz spreading among the colleges. It spoils the student' future. IN my college there were such problems and the guyz who ragged were su[ended with immediate effect. The Anti Ragging laws should be strengthned and should be implemented with immediate effect. Anti Raggin cells should be formed in the colleges and should track the any ragging cases. Many universities have adopted this with the aid of the local police. The the rules are becoming strict now.

Ragging does help getting students closer to seniors. But of course it should be at a limit. If anything goes out of limit, then the results will be too worse. But without ragging college is without fun. So ragging should not be banned in college. But seniors should make sure that ragging is in limit.

I have a question for you. What about those people who are ragged so badly that they end up loosing their lives? We have heard and seen many children who have lost their lives because they were ragged so badly. Some people, like you, may be able to take it. But then there are others who may be very sensitive and it becomes traumatic and embarrassing for them. Not to mention the fact that sometimes students take ragging beyond what it is meant to be. They can be extremely cruel. I know of a college student, who was molested by a group of boys as a part of ragging. He was so afraid that he went into a shell and was not talking to anyone, as the seniors had threatened him.Can you imagine his mental agony?

Yeah, I agree ragging should be prohibited. Well, that has been an issue since last 20-25 years in India. I haven't heard of such incidents anywhere from abroad. There have been many acts and laws implicated but nothing seems to work here. I am an undergraduate, but luckily we weren't ragged in our first year. Its a menace for the freshers coming in from various states to build their career. And its a real shame for those people who feel they are "Born-seniors" spoiling the lives of innocent youths.

Hi jimmy. I agree with you opinion. Its very true that ragging brings you closer to your seniors. It creates a good relationship between you and the seniors. Most senior does not rag us to make use of us or anything. Most of them are just having some fun and they dont mean to hurt us in any ways. All we need to do is to be open minded and socialized and things will be find.

ragging varies from places to places and colleges to colleges, sometimes ragging can be good but sometimes it really gets worse, normally in the IIT's people don't have that much time as they are busy with their work... and ragging is not that very serious but at some regional level colleges ragging has been very ugly, this is were ragging must be brought to an end, and sometimes how you react to ragging is also what matter very much, some people are more sensitive and can't take it, the seniors don't realize this and that person gets really stressed, and under that stressful situations many things go in their minds... i believe ragging can have positive as well as negative effects, but it doesn't get as much positive as much it gets negative and seniors should be more sensitive towards it

Hello jimmy87 this is checkmail and yes ragging is a crime and it has past over its limits in todays world.Mostly raging takes place in schools, colleges, offices, etc.Earlier raging was limited to laughing and joking but today its rise to unwanted means limits like physical assualt, Money laundering, sexsual favours, addiction favours, etc.The law has taken a firm steps to reduce it but still the public isn't been co-ooperative in nature.Hope that it will end soon.

Ragging has caused humiliation and even deaths among freshmen who are asked to perform inhumane activities. I shall not go into details as it's going to be really graphical. Ragging is a time for seniors to take revenge, not at those who had ragged them before but to juniors whom they know would have no choice but to adhere to their demands throughout the ragging week. It makes them feel good about it. I believe there are other means of teaching freshmen about college environment, study life, mixing with seniors without having to get them perform activities beyond our imagination. Abolishing ragging will not make freshmen cowards and sissies. It will turn them into better humans - humans who don't humiliate others and don't laugh at others being humiliated. Ragging is banned in my country, yet we had good relationships with our seniors.

when saying about ragging, there are pro and con. it'll be good experience when your seniors rag you without going overboard because you can get to know each other closer whilst making your confident level higher. but if the person being ragged too much and out of his will it may cause bad circumstances to health and mental.
