I had a really awful journey to Stansted Airport. London underground wasn't running well and then my train went slowly. I arrived just in time to quickly check in then board the plane. There wasn't anytime to get any currency. Arriving in Sardinia the exchange booth was closed. I exchanged a small amount of money from another traveler. Then I got a bus to a town where I was able to go to a bank to get the currency.
My train was late arriving into Bucharest and I bought a ticket to Bulgaria. I did that just two minutes from the time the train would depart. I ran to get the train and got on it just in time. If I hadn't it was only one service a day.
Have you ever nearly missed a plane, train or bus?
If so how did that happen?

I have nearly missed the plane in Frankfurt airport when I came back to my home country recently.
Because before I took the plane, I was travelling in a small town in Germany. In order to look for a castle, I lost the way in the middle. Actually the castle is much farther away than I thought.I came back to the local railway station an hour late than I had planned. Fortunately, I still catched the last express to catch the airplane. And then, when I arrived at the airport, it was one hour and half before the plane took off. If everything was Ok, there should be no problem. However, there are two terminals in that airport and the train arrived at terminal one while my check-in desk was in the other terminal. I couldn't find the way to the other terminal. I was running in a hurry while asking staffs for the way for several times. Eventually, when I found my check-in desk, it was less than one hour before the taking-off time. Thanks for the God, the check-in was still in procedure.

My family and I had to make a mad dash to catch our plane leaving London's Gatwick Airport. When we got on the plane we waited and waited for it to take off and eventually learned they were waiting for some late comers. It turned out we were the late comers they were waiting for. They didn't realize we'd gotten on already. As it turned out it was okay because there were some other folks that got on after we were on. We all thought it was very nice of the airline to wait for us.

I have been lucky enough to get to planes and trains on time...most of the time. I remember one near miss. I was returning to Alaska from Kentucky after completing ROTC basic training and had a plane change at O Hare in Chicago. I had about 20 minutes to get from one end of one terminal to the far end of another and a whole group of us had to run to get to the plane on time. It wouldn't have been so bad if I were wearing tennis shoes, but I was in heals so it was a long haul. Have a great day!!!

Sorry to hear that MaxiMax :D the worst case scenario that I faced was on a connection flight as I had only half an hour between the two plans!!! I almost missed the plan that day :) I like to have at least an hour between any connection flights if I'm traveling to give me time to find my bags, rest or have something to eat, look around :D play some PSP or so
Thanks for sharing and Happy MyLotting

I have never missed a plane the few times I've taken one. I always made sure to get to the airport at least 2 hours before the plane was supposed to take off. I don't miss buses or subway trains much when I commute - and even then, I take a train that arrives a half hour before I should get to where I go (work, school) in case I miss it and have to make the next one. But even then, I would still be on time, so I like it even though I have to get ready earlier in the morning.

Hi max, and to answer your question, no, I am always very early for departures. Even if something goes wrong, I wound have enough time. The only way would be if my flight was hald up, and I had a connecting flight to catch.

Hello maximax. There was one time last year when I had little time left to catch the train in the city. But I was lucky to have my friend send me to the bus station to take a straight bus to the city and then I took a taxi all the way to the railway station. When I got there, there were only a few minutes left to catch the leaving train. I run all the way to the train with my heavy luggage. I was glad and felt so relaxed when I got onto the train finally before it started moving. It is an unforgettable experience that I have ever had.

It has happened to me a couple of times. Some years ago I was visiting my brother in Spain and when I was going back to Denmark my brother was supposed to drive me to the airport. Unfortuneately his car broke down, so I had to find a taxi really fast. My brother and I were running around in the streets looking for a taxi and we finally managed to find one. We started driving, but suddenly the driver said something in Spanish that I didn't understand and left the car. I was very impatient and afraid that we wouldn't make it in time for my plane. After a while the driver finally returned and we arrived at the airport just a few minutes before I had to check in. I was very happy that I didn't miss the plane, because my ex-boyfriend was celebrating his birthday the next day, and if I hadn't made it in time for the plane, I would have missed the party.
In 1999 I was living in Italy for a while, but I had to go back to Denmark to take a psychology exam. I had been studying for my exam by myself while I was Italy, and when I was going to Denmark I packed all my books and my notes in my suitcase. I had to change plans in Amsterdam, but the first plane was delayed, and when I finally arrived in Amsterdam I only had a few minutes to get to the next plane. I ran all the way to the gate and I managed to board the plane as the last passager. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time to get my luggage into the second plane, so I only had my handbag. My notes and my books were in my suitcase, so I had to take the exam without my notes. I managed to pass the exam anyway, and a few days later my suitcase and my notes arrived.

I almost missed a plane in Philly one time on my way to New York. That airport is huge. I scurried onto a shuttle bus and just made by about 2 minutes! I was a nervous wreck!

Actually, it just happened to me two weeks ago.
I and my family was going to California to visit my aunt there.
We came into the airport at 6:50am, and ready to check in for our flight at 7:30am.
Suddenly, some Delta agent told us that our flight had been changed time to 7:00am.
We could not make it, so we had to pay $66 extra to book another flight to California at the same day.
It was horrible.
I hate it when the flights are always changing in the last minutes.

I nearly missed my plane flight during a layover. I knew what time it was scheduled so I was sitting there reading my book. When it was about 10 minutes before they would announce for passengers to board; and usually there are already people there, but there was none. So I went up to the desk to inquire and they told me the plane was ready early and that they had been calling my name. How many of you can understand their loud speaker for announcements. But I made it.

Sounds stressful and nervousmaking-- but you DID make it, in the end!
I have had many "near misses," as well as some actual "misses." Most of them have been related to international flights arriving late and my connections being a tight squeeze. The "closest" I recall was a trip from Copenhagen to Houston, Texas via Amsterdam. The Copenhagen flight was late arriving from Stockholm, and later still leaving Copenhagen (due to fog). I DID make it onto the Houston, but I was the last person on, and they were actually standing by to close the plane door when I ran on, completely out of breath. I even got a round of applause from nearby passengers... evidently they knew I was "on the way" and had held the departure a couple of minutes.

Well i had a lot of near misses like catching a train...The one i remember well is when i had to catch a train to get home for Christmas..Even though i started 3 hours early to catch the train, considering the one hour travel time in between, i thought i will have two hours time in the train station. But to my bad luck i was raining like "cats & dogs" on that evening. Adding to my frustration is that the traffic was at its worst. My cab got Stuck in the traffic for almost 2.30 hours finally when i reached the station the train was bout to leave and i got into the last compartment and then i moved to my compartment in the next stop. The thing that i will remember for a long time.
Another recent incident is that i really had a actual miss when i was traveling from Frankfurt to Chicago. I have to catch a connection at Chicago at 1.30 and i flight from Frankfurt was scheduled to arrive at 12.00 but to my bad luck the flight arrived by 12.30. Well you all know how long the queue will be there in an US immigration Counter at the airpor it really took me half an hour to clear my immigration formalities and the i proceeded to collect my bags. By the time when i checked my bags with the connecting airlines it was already 1.10 and then i started to proceed to the domestic terminal in the chicago airport which took me another 10 mins... by the time when i reached my gates the boarding has been completed and the aero bridge connecting the gate with the aircraft has started to move away... I really felt so bad that i couldnt catch the flight...Finally at the end of the day i got into another flight at 9.30 PM after being stranded for 8 hours at the chicago airport.

I'm glad you were finally able to catch your train. One time shortly after Sept. 11 (it was actually Columbus Day weekend-which we celebrate over here) I was in a really long check in line at the airport and I ended up missing my flight fortunately there was one like an hour later. Another time we were flying to Vegas and the flight was overbooked. We ended up missing it and the airline paid for a cab to go to a close by airport and paid for our lunch. We had to wait until 5pm for the flight.

No I don't, and I'd never want it to happen to me. That's why when I've to catch a plane home, I'd be ready four hours prior to flight, and will be at the airport at least 2 hours ahead. Yeah, it's a long wait, but I simply don't like missing flights if I can avoid it. It's not that there's another flight every 10 minutes. To avoid missing anything, planning is very important. Of course, by a stroke of bad luck, if the bus that takes you to the airport breaks down, there's nothing you can do about it except pray that another bus comes soon, or hail a taxi.
Cheers!
