When I was 13 years old I had a paper round. I used the money from that to go on holiday to Greece when I was 14 years old. I went with my mum. We visited an island and Athens. At age 16 years old I got a job as a Saturday assistant in a shop. From that I saved up to go to the Netherlands with a friend. We went to Amsterdam when we were 17 years old. Did you have any part time jobs as a teenager to make extra money? If so what type of work did you do? Can you remember what you spent the money on?

Hi there. I have never got a chance to work part time and find extra money for my own during teenage life. My father never allowed me to feel the hard time of finding money. He told me that it would not easy and it may hurt my enjoyable life. My bestfriend works part time at the book store, fast food restaurant. I want to join them but it was really difficult to change my dad's prinsip. And this things happen like 15 years ago and I still remember the moment I want to run from my home because my dad did not want me to live with burden of jobs. And he was true...I just knew that when I worked permanently at the age of 20. I wish I can go back to my teenage life and listed to my dad.

Even I never got a chance to work part time and make money. I was never interested in working while studying. My dad never wanted me to work when I was studying. Once we get used to earning money, it becomes difficult to concentrate on studies as we become greedy and give more importance to money.

I think I am wee bit lucky. I started a year later than you. I was 14 when I started giving tuition to supplement the family income. It started with one student and my cousins start introducing their friends to me. It ended up I was doing quite well as a tutor compared to my peers. It was only after I completed my secondary education that I start working as a shop assistant during school vacation.

I didn't work to make extra money when I was a teenager. Usually, we don't work till we get a job in my country. Parents will pay for all the expenses till we get job. There are very little part time jobs available. I did a part time job of taking tutions of eleventh and twelth grade students when I was in college. I enjoyed it and I bought some gold using that money.

I just kinda halped at the restaurant, took order and learnt how to do more when I was getting bigger until it closed so I had worked there for many many years.... I could say I started working when I was a kid! :-p have a lots of work experience since all the company needs you to have experiences for fresh grad!

We worked in the family business. Never earned a penny but never wanted anything either. If we needed it we had it. And the work paid off. We learned it the hard way and the legitimate way. Do I regret it, not one day.

No, I didn't start working until I was 18 and that was a summer job for students. And it was not even paying me a salary but I was able to go into all municipal swimming pools, campgrounds, parks etc for free, I think that was the major reason for me to apply LOL We worked from 8: 30 am to 12:30 and had the rest of the day free to go swimming :) I did travel throughout Europe since 16, but my parents paid for that, so I didn't have to worry, that first job was just more for fun than anything else :)

Hi maxi, I encountered your post occasionally in the colomn of "discussions", ha ha. Well, to respond you, when I was in primary school, I used to sell cucumber that we grow in the garden but can not eat out in the market, when I was in my high school, I used to work for local ginseng processing businessman, and earned RMB 10 yuan per day, that work is laborous and I was very tired at that time but I saved the money as part of my tuition fee. When I was twenty and in my high school, I went to Jilin Province TV Station for a tv composition contest and won RMB 1000 yuan, then both my parents and I bought a winter down jacket. When I was in college, I used to be part-time teachers and I tutored pupils English.

Hi maximax8! Congratulations to you, it sounds like you have good values instilled in you?! Unfortunatly for me, my parents never really did that for me. I was spoiled when I was younger. This was very damaging as when growing up in my teenage years I was very ungrateful and never respected the true value of things. I am different now since living on my own for years and raising my own children. I realize that I am not going to get things handed to me for free anymore and I need to value and care for everything I own. My children have just started becoming of age to handle a job and they are all eager to earn their own money. They are very exited. Being that they were never spoiled, they treasure everything they get, even the small things!

Hi there! I never had the chance to work when I was a teenager but I really wanted to. When I was still in college I wanted to go on a job training related to my course but my father didn't allowed me cause he wants me to concentrate on my studies. Now I really regret that I wasn't able to work cause I have never used the skills of the course I took. After I graduated my family put up a business and I end up spending my younger years tending to the family business. Maybe if I was able to work back then, I could be having a job now, related to the course I took. It's nice that you know how to earn money starting at a young age. You surely enjoyed traveling with the money you've worked hard for. Ciao!

I did work at teenager time, but to help my mom with knitting or embroidering, during vacations. We made quite some money for tuition next semester. It was great fun meanwhile. Mom was very strict on quality, and it help me with learning the home crafts and also the attitude toward work quality.

i didnt make extra money when i was a teenager. until i studied in the universtiy, i began to make extra money. i spent them on my tuition fees , combined with the scholarship. when grade 4 in the university, i even could give some to my parents. but i can remember my brother did, he went to sell the ice cream with a special box around the villages. i was too shy then. so i just helped my mom with the homework at home.

I have never got a chance to work for money, I just worked at home, helped to my parents in cooking, building, cutting the grass, and that's all. I wanted to work for money, because I wanted to go to abroad, but I didn't find any job, so I couldn't. My parent's gave me a little pocket money on saturdays, and that's all.

I have always wanted to. But the town I was growing up in was a ghost town. The biggest supermarket hired only relatives, and I was not lucky enough to have any connection to get the job. I was in need of money, bored and had to sit through the holidays without doing anything productive.

I worked at a pet shop to bath dogs when I was 12, and that was my first job. In my country it is illegal to anyone under 16 to work. It's a big violation against the laws protecting the underaged. So I tried really hard to ask the pet shop owner to give me a shot. I worked mainly because I found a stray dog and was determined to raise him. I never thought having a dog costed so much money and that's why I needed that job to have my dog. I remember I hid the dog for over three months in my room and I told my mom I'll take the responsibility. Now, that dog is nearly 14 years old. :-)
