Would you welcome a weekly handy hint from Mylot?

Recently, we've been talking about ways of preventing guideline violations, so that the discussions are more interesting. It occurred to me today that Mylot could post a weekly tip at the top of our home page. You'd see this every time you logged on, so even if you didn't consciously read it, you'd probably absorb the gist of it.
I think this would help new members to learn the ropes, and also act as a timely reminder to more established users. What do you think?

Hi Sandra!
A tip if it was something taken from the FAQs or the Guidelines could well be ab eye-opener for many here. If even only a single phrase was extracted and placed on the homepage and highlighted so that it drew attention then maybe many would learn something new.
Even a simple phrase taken from the FAQS such as
'generate discussions that engage other users and provide insightful responses and comments to other users discussions to further the topic'
http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx#14
would be news to some who think it's all about questions and answers here.
They have no time to read all that information but a short phrase each week just might do the trick. We can dream I guess

Let's put it this way - we, the users, help as much as we can but a line here and there every now and then from higher up confirming what we advise wouldn't go amiss and would obviously get more attention. That's why I think yours is a suggestion worth considering!

Hello Alice - you've got the idea - I think those are the main offences covered. I think I'll contact Mylot with this suggestion, as it seems to have received a favourable response.

Hello, Diana. Yes, that's just the sort of thing I'm thinking of - bite size Mylot if you like. And it would send out a message that admin expect certain standards to be aspired to and adhered to. As you say, we can dream, can't we?

Hey Sandra that's a clever idea!! If this idea materializes then it can help everyone. Hope mylot will look into this idea of yours.
Also, it would be nice if there could a daily quote for everyone to read. Like an inspirational quote or something like that.
Ciao!

Hello, iskayz. I'm going to approach Mylot with this, as there has been so much positive feedback. You should mention your idea to admin as well, as I think it would be well received. Something like a daily quote enhances the feeling of belonging, and could also generate discussions on the origination of the quote or how it applies to modern day life, for instance.

Mylot are always happy to receive constructive tips or improving our overall experience. Go for it! Hit 'contact' at the bottom of the page, choose 'other' from the drop down menu, then type in your suggestion. Good luck.

^But still it's great idea and would help new members to find everything they need to know in few small tips because probably 50% of users never reed FAQs this way they don't need to. It's much simpler, faster, and more effective.

I would say about 75% of the users don't read the guidelines, actually. I still think it's a good idea to go through them when you get the chance, though, as it would take a long time for all the hints you need to filter through. Thanks for responding and welcome to Mylot.

That is a great idea. A weekly or even daily tip can help the newbies to understand the dos and donts even without going through the tedious process of reading through the faqs.
Frankly speaking i have till date not read through the terms and conditions and the faqs but have learnt "how mylot works" through other co-mylotters :)
So a weekly/daily tip will be of great help, as you said!

Hello, divkris. I think a daily tip would take away the advantage of something lodging in the brain by seeing it regularly over a few days. Many of the established members are always willing to help new members and that is great, but people should also take on responsibility for finding out for themselves as well, and this is a painless way to do this.

I think the weekly tip would be a nice touch and very helpful. I'm a new member and it can be a little confusing and overwhelming and some might find it even more so than I have. Those tips would have and probably still would come in rather handy as a welcome helpful tool.

Welcome to Mylot. Yes, it is confusing when you first arrive here, and I hate to think that new members will be put off before they have the opportunity to get the full benefit from Mylot. Sometimes it's easier to take things in a little at a time than to be confronted with lots of stuff all at once.

I think this is a great idea and people should at least be given the option to set up a panel with a regular hint if they want to. The fact of the matter is that even though most people CLAIM to have read the guidelines, in reality it's unlikely that many will have sat patiently and gone through them all from day one and I reckon that learning the ins and outs would more than likely be picked up as they go along for a heck of a lot of newbies. Hints would have a good chance of sinking in over time, I agree.

This would come officially from Mylot, and would just be an item from the guidelines and FAQs. Mysdianait suggested it should be highlighted to draw attention to it, and over time, everyone would get a refresher course in the way Mylot works without even trying. The beauty of it is, it's easy to set up as a feature.

Hi Sandra, it sounds like a good idea to go for. Interestingly i saw something today which was about one year old that either Mike or Lamb posted, a link to someone from Mylot admin taking questions for a 48 hour period, think it was someone called Crash. Maybe they could do that every 6 months. I saved the link to have a look at as there were pages and pages of questions about all things Mylot.

Yes, I saved that link too, as I think it could be very useful. Anything that helps to improve the quality of posting has to be a good idea.

Sounds like a great idea to me. It would make it feel like the MyLot community is actually interacting with us. You know, dropping hints here and there helping us get the full experience and enjoying MyLot more. Helping us find the little secrets that make MyLot tick. Yeah, I wouldn't mind it, I would greatly appreciate it!

i think it's a great idea. i jointed mylot website almost over 3 months, i still feel confused with the rules. especially which you can post and which you can not post.
i suggest mylot should give us feedback about our posts when they are not qualified with the website rules. if they did not tell us, sometimes we don't know what's going wrong. then we would not have progress about it.
also i wish mylot can have more topics on list so we can open our mind to take part in the topics.

I wwould always make use of a "Tip of the Day" whenever I login to myLot. If it helps me to earn more money then I would be all the more happier :)
But the Tip of the Day should not only focus on the money side, but also on how to maintain and better the quality of the posts.
Looking forward to such a feature in myLot!!!!

Welcome to Mylot. You are just the sort of new member we like here - someone who wants to use the site properly, not just to get referrals. Like all good websites, it takes a little time to get to know how Mylot works, and anything that helps that along is a good thing in my opinion.

Hi Sandra,
Your suggestion of a weekly handy hint from myLot is a great ideal, especially in the area of fellow "myLotters" editing their post prior to posting a response. It's my understanding that myLot only pays for quality post much like a publisher who hires a writer to write articles that have quality of content, free from grammatical errors and are original pieces of work. Finding this site has been a great way for me hone my writing skills as well as adapt to differing topics in such a way that I think it will make me a better writer. Not to mention allow me to make a little coinage in the meantime.

What I think is that it probably wouldn't have that much impact with certain people. As for myself, I don't log in to the home page always so I might not see it.
