How often do you trim/cut your hair?

I have straight long hair but develop split ends very soon. The tip of the hair gets worn out and i stop making plait with it and make buns (which actually makes the tip even more weak).
Then today i got it trimmed and my mom cut 2-3 inches from teh tip of my hair. My mom became to sentimental and was feeling bad that i cut my hair. She even went to the extent of shedding a tear over it!I remember the last time i cut my hair (which was say last year around this time, and cut it to waist length) my mom had the same reaction - LOL.
So how often do you cut/trim you hair? Do you think it is apart of your hair maintenance?

thanks for the discussion . i am reminded that i need to have my hair trimmed. cause it is getting long now. i don't like having a long hair cause it does not look well on me and i feel so hot having long hair.

I trim my hair once in 2 months. I have a short hair and I like to experiment with my hair.
Sometimes I hav step cut, straight cut, straighten it...etc..etc. I think it is kind of hair maintenance. I do not like split ends or hair growing irregularly..so maintaining a proper and neat shape is important for me :-)

Oh! i wish i could do that - experiment with your hair. Rather people with long hair can afford to experiment because they are assured of the hair growing back to normal! But my mom believes that all this experimentation will only scare your hair and it will never grow back again :S - a typical mom, isn't it?

I develop split ends very quickly too, however as I had layers which made it harder to realise that, I didn't cut my hair for well over a year last time and my hair grew very very long. Then I cut it should length haha!
Normally, I cut my hair about every six months.

I dont have a specific routine or time of year/month that I get a hair trim. I just go to the salon for trimming whenever I feel that my hair has enough length for being a nuisance. Longer hair does need more care, attention, and more time to spend on it. Time isnt really that 'loose' for me so to speak that I can afford to lavish overly taking care of my hair. It is our crowning glory but just enough maintenance is advisable. That works for me anyway.^_^

Depends solely on the growth. My hair grows verrry slowly. So, I dont have much choice. Sob :( If I had enough hair, I would probably get it trimmed once in a month to just keep the ends healthy. I would not chop the length but just the edges.

And, yes cutting hair and having a neat hair style is part of hair maintenance. :)

the last time i had my hair cut was three years ago. now i am enjoying my long curly hair but is planning to have it trim and experience the beauty of rebond!
it's always a passion for me to have a long and straight hair. but everytime i visit a salon for a hair make over, they always have this comment that my curly long hair is nice and there is no need to make it straight becasue it will just make my hair brittle. so, i am maintaining a long, curly hair.
hopefully, next month i will have it trim... for a new look on my birthday.

I cut my hair whenever it gets to far in my eyes and then i snip it myself.
I haven't had my hair cut professionally for many years.. I simply feel around
and cut.. I imagine it looks like a weedeater was let lose on the back;)

Whenever I visit the salon, the hair-dressers there always suggest getting a trim every month for maintaining healthy hair. Frail ends don't look attractive and instead make the hair appear rough and frizzled out. I too have very long hair, its summer and I'm considering the chop but my hubby thinks otherwise, so I have to try hard to maintain the bounce and life in my hair by regular trimming and avoiding perms which can make split ends look like burnt wires.

Hmmm - i still remember going to the salon for threading and they asked me to trim my hair and wash it, etc., etc. Probably a bait ot get more from our wallets - LOL
Good that you take the initiatives to maintain your hair long and aonly because your husband feels so - lovely! :)

Hi friend,
I cut my hair for every 3 months.I love to have short hair rather than having long hair.It helps me to take care less of my hair because of small.I also feel happy about it.Even my mother also do the same thing like me.There are so sentiments in our family if we cut our hair.Even i saw some girls cutting their hair as that of boy cut their hair. But i am not that much into.I love to have a ponitail for myself which looks good for me.
Have a nice day

I was just thinking about it this morning, having my hair trimed or cut this weekend...
My hair is really long and have not been trimmed for more than 4 months I think. And I recently want to have a sort of new hair style because it is just same lenth long right now... kinda boring so I'm thinking about may be have it trimmed to have little layers and make it look lighter!

i'm also with long hair. i just get used to it although when i was going to have a baby they asked me cut it short. Let me think my last time to get my hair trimed is ealy this year ,half a year ago . Your mom is really cute, indeed. She reminds me of my mom. My mother used to cut my hair when i was young and i didn't have to go to the barbers. What a sweet memory indeed !!
