Don't you just hate it when people dump animals and shouldn't they fine?

I was really disgusted to see this poor neglected cat. He was obviously an exspensive breed and at one time very beautiful. I am sad to say, his owners deserted him. He turned up in the yard, I saw him, hungry, dirty, and very ill. I gave him food and water. I could not touch him as he was so afraid of people. What makes people leave these poor creatures to suffer so? Don't you wish that they would find these owners and impose fines? I wish they could track down more of these people and hold them accountable.

Hi there! It is nice to read that you took sympathy on the poor cat and you fed her and took care of her. I fully agree with you that if pet animals are dumped by their masters, they should be severely punished. After all, if animals like cats/dogs cannot speak, they must not be thrown like orphans. Good Post!

Someday, I hope they will do more to protect them. The sad thing is that, it is impossible to find out who dumped this animal or when and where. Appreciate the response.

You are right, it is nearly impossible to find out how dumpted those poor animals, who just cannot express and protest.

If you keep on feeding him he will eventually allow you to get hold of him, but if he is ill, then the best thing to do will be to trap him so that he can be treated by a vet. If he's a pedigree cat, then it's very likely that he's microchipped which might make it possible to identify and locate his former owners.

They should be held accountable then they should be banned from getting another pet! I don't know how people can do that.....if they couldn't afford it any longer they should have taken it to the pound or another place that rescues animals....I bet it's scared and hungry!

There is no excuse for abandoning animals. I do wish they could find neglective owners an fine them. I once took in a poor cat from across the street because it's owners had moved and left it. It was so sad it cried all night every night. He was declawed too. It was a shame. I did take him in and care for him. My girls loved him very much. There are options instead of abandonment. I wish people would check in to them. Take care.

This is one of those things that makes me so angry I just can't talk about it. I used to live in NYC, and there were stray and abandoned cats all over the place. I felt so sorry for them. Many times people are told by their landlords that they can't have a cat, so instead of moving to a cat-friendly building, they just set the poor creature out on the street. I think it might come down to a lack of value for life. I know most of us were raised being taught to respect and love each other and those dependent on us such as pets, but there are just too many people right now that don't care anymore. Yes, I really do wish these people could be hunted down and fined, but I don't know how unless we put electronic chips in all our pets.

That is the trouble my friend there is no real deterrant in place to stop people dumping animals and to some people with absolutely no morals or no conscious even heavy fines wouldn't stop them! It is sickening I do agree, how would they like it if they were dumped on the street to fend for themselves? It wouldn't happen would it, so why do it to animals, people think animals are dumb creatures, well to be honest I have more respect for animals who are more intelligent than some of the scum we have living around us, sorry for the brutal words, but when people talk about hurting animals and dumping them I get seriously angry. I hope those that dump animals get what they rightfully deserve, I believe in karma and hopefully one day they will find themselves in a sorry situation. That doesn't help the animals admittedly. Our cat we got from a cat rescue sanctuary, we found out when we got her that the woman who had her before just drove up threw the cat out of the car and drove off, how sick is that?

Don't even get me started. I volunteer at a cat rescue organization. There was a beautiful Siamese there named Kahlua. She was dropped off at three years old why? Because her owner decided they'd rather have a dog. At least they didn't just dump her in a field, but still, it just burns me up. People who dump animals out somewhere to starve should be dumped out in the wilderness themselves and see how they handle it. grrrrrrrr....

I cannot pretend to know what breed this was. I do know that it looked very exspensive. It was in the most shabby condition and it was one of the worst cases that I have ever seen. Appreciate the response and your compassion.

I agree with you! My kitty, Bean, came to us right after we moved in here. He was so thin you could feel every bone in his body. His hair was thin. He was starving. It was so obvious that someone had abandoned him. I fed him, cared for him and now he's a hefty 16 pounds of pure love and very, very happy. We live in the country so it's not unusual to see stray animals wandering around, looking for something to eat and someone to love them. It disgusts me that people think that domesticated animals who are used to being taken care of are just dropped off to fend for themselves. Wild animals are taught by their parents how to catch their food. Domesticated animals may have the instinct, but not the skills required. It's something they need to develop right off the bat! Of course, the only way we can catch these cruel people is to ensure that every domesticated animal is microchipped, then potential owners must be registered so, if the animals are abandoned or even just lost, they can be traced back to their owners. Some animal lovers think that microchipping their pets is cruel but I see it as an important way to ensure that lost pets are reunited with their owners, and also as a way to trace those who abandon their pets. All responsible veterinarians and animal shelters are equipped with microchip 'readers'. Microchips do not harm the animals, it's no more painful than giving them their necessary vaccinations, and helps to ensure a loved pet's return. Our pets depend on us. We've made it so they are poorly equipped to take care of themselves if lost, abandoned or stolen. We should do everything we can to ensure that they are healthy and happy. I think HUGE fines should be imposed on those who are found guilty of abandoning their pets and would love to see some kind of law regarding the same. Also, they should be legally forbidden to ever have another pet.... EVER and, if caught with another pet, those pets should be removed from their care (or lack thereof) and another huge fine, even larger than the original fine, imposed. If they refuse to pay, then jail time should not be out of the question. We, as humans, have a responsibility to care for our domesticated friends, both physically and emotionally.

I agree. There is no excuse for this. It is totaly wrong. There is no way to know how many people have been cruel to them. hurt them, thrown things at them. I just hate to see any poor creature made to suffer. It is a crying shame. It is all preventable. It is unessesary. Appreciate the excellent response.

That makes me angry as well and all you hear is the people if they get caught they get away with it as they say they can no longer afford to feed their pet,yet next you see them drinking in a pub or going on their holliday. They could have tried to rehome the pet but they never bother it is a shame as like you say there are people dumping pets all the time and those pets are suffering where as there are no need.

I think that if someone has a pet then he should be emotionally attached with it.Why to bring them home if are gonna throw them in ur backyard later on.

I agree with you, but a lot of the time it would be hard to find the people that neglect their animals. I feed the stray cats that come to my house. It seems they are around for a few months & then disappear. The lady across the street doesn't talk to us because I feed the cats. She says they spray her porch. I saw her husband trying to run over one of the stray cats in the street one day. If he had hit the cat, I would have called the police on him as I know he doesn't have a drivers license. Animal cruelty is a felony where I live.

Yes it's disgusting with how people do this when they have so many other options other than desertion. I recently saw a kitten in the downtown area of the city I live in. It was at night and there were lights and loud music I felt terrible but I couldent do anything because my dad is highly allergic to cats. So I called the animal control and they came and got it and gave it food and water and put it into a shelter.

If I were there at your place I could have adopted that poor cat. I will take care of him even he is very afraid of me. I get angry with this, in the first place do not get a cat because you can't be responsible to take care of them or do not take responsibility in the first place if you can't do it. Yes, I wish we can track them one by one and ask for fines for taking their animals for granted, these animals have a life too, and it can be ruin by their being irresponsible.

I have alot of animals dropped off at my house and it's hard finding them a home. I think alot of people think if they drop them off, their problem is solved but I wonder sometimes how many of them actually feel guilty and worry about them later but are afraid to go back to where they dumped them..... It's shirking the responsibility onto someone else and hoping they take care of the problem for them. As far as tracking someone down and finding out where they come from, it's usually at night or when I'm not home when I find a new one. Usually pregnant or sick or just a cat or dog that isn't a kitten or puppy anymore. If you find out a way of tracking them down, let me know! I'm all for it!

Dear friend I had seen few times these kinds of puppies and cats I could feel small strike in my heart and mostly if possible I would bring them to my home even though at times my mother used to scold me when I did this during my childhood. But I do know they do have pain and feelings as we but only thing is that they do know how to communicate. Several times I just thought if these animals could talk they would have fought for this injustice, still compared to them I hope humans are much cruel.

That is a sad story eaforeman6! One of my cats turned up on my door step in a similar state; she is a beautiful healthy and affectionate cat now but it took a lot of patience to give her the love and reassurance she needed because she appeared to have been abused. She was very afraid of everyone except me and whenever the door bell rang she would hide between the wall and my desk; I don’t even know how she fit there! After a while she improved with visitors but was still very afraid of men and whenever my husband entered the room she would scurry away. It has taken us years to get her very close to normality and I wish she could speak and tell me her story; I have a feeling it wouldn’t be pretty. You are right eaforeman6 there should be much steeper penalties for individuals who abuse animals, it’s sad and disgusting. I hope the kitty you found is going to be okay too. It saddens me so...

Yes I do...certainly shoud get fine and some sort of serious punishment or penalty... I always think about if they don't want to take this responsibility and take care of the animals forever, why they want to get them home the first place, they should have to make sure everything is fine for them and the animals before they actually get it like palce for the animals; are they able to feed the animals good; all kinds of factors... I hate to see neglected animals too... I feel very sad to be seeing them; I have tried to take one of those cats home before but it took off eventually... And the other thing is it makes them scared of human beings and not trust us...

it is absolutely irritating to see stray dogs and cats everyday on the streets and despite the fact that the animal care system here are doing their best to get these pets housed some people are still dumping their animals on the street, if not for animal care system, the streets would have been so much littered with these animals
