The little boy in the movie "The Ring" is named Aiden. Since then, I have seen so many people name their babies that (or different spellings, but whatever). It seems to be a pretty popular baby name these days. I personally know two people who have named their babies that in the past year. So do you think there is a connection between the name appearing in this popular movie with the name becoming a top baby name? Is it weird to pick a name from a movie like this?

I can't remember exactly what year The Ring came out, but it's true . . . so many Aiden's have been born since then . . . as well as other offshoots of the name: Kayden, Jayden, Rayden, Grayden, and all else that rhymes with Aiden (or Aidan). I don't know if all those people saw The Ring, but certainly the popularity of the name has spread for whatever reason. I guess it's a name that sounds cool - and different (at the time it did anyway), though now you hear it everywhere. I am personally staying away from that name with my son to be! :) And I wouldn't name my daughter Samara - hee hee!!

I am currently pregnant and when my husband and I were talking about baby names he mentioned that he liked the name of the boy from 'the ring', I didnt know what he was talking about at the time, but now that I know it was Aiden I'll have to tell him NO, it did become a popular name and I know WAY too many people who have named their kids that name.
We are thinking about Lucian if it is a boy, from the Underworld movies, he was the first of the Lycans, and calling him Luca for short. Alot of people name their kids after characters of movies they enjoyed, or even from books. Its more common that people would think!
