Where I work, normally the end of the month is really busy. It is the deadline for the bigwigs to make their monthly quota so they are desperate to push as much out the doors as they can and as quickly as they can. We normally have to work overtime on the last week of the month as well and we are doing such this month too. I am currently working 10 hour days. It can be very hectic when you have children at home and I am expecting some family in for the weekend. If you have ever had to work overtime then I'm sure you know what it is like. Do you get a lot of overtime where you work? How much do you normally get?

My official working hours is 8 hours. Most often, I find myself spending about 12 hours in office. Yes, I consider it as overtime but not my boss. As professionals, we are expected to complete what is assigned yet we will not be paid overtime. It's ultimately my own responsibility to the clients as I face the client directly.

Oh I know what you mean by overtime! I have been laid off for a while, but where I worked before I got laid off sometimes we had to work 12 hours a day, everyday. When I first started there we worked for 60 days without a day off, 12 hours a day. I'm talking seven days a week, you didn't have time to do anything except eat, sleep, and go to work. Oh yes I hated it, you couldn't plan anything. Even after they went to 3 shifts you still had to work everyday, even when they told you that you had off for the weekend, you still couldn't plan anything because they would change it before the weekend came around. The only reason I put up with this is because it was good money while it lasted.

I am in management and we work til the job is done. Add to that the job I have is direct care of persons and I never have a week that is just forty hours. I am salaried, so there is no paying overtime for all of this work.

At my last job, there was some times that I had to work overtime. Those times were mostly because we had children that were late being picked up so we had to stay until their parents showed up. However, at my current job, we really are not allowed to engage in any over time. The time that we are supposed to leave is the time that we're supposed to leave. She does not want to pay us any over time at all because it hurts her having to pay us over time. I'm ok with that though because I'm getting paid better here.

I'm not working now, and wish that I could find a job. When I was working at another job, I worked in the payroll office for a major department store, which had over 70,000 employees. I worked a lot of overtime, and loved it. I was able to start work really early in the morning, so most of my overtime was done then, and I still was able to go home at the normal time. Since I am an early bird, it didn't bother me. I sometimes made up to 40 of overtime per pay period, the money was great, gee, I really miss those days, when I had money in my pocket and a free mind and no stress.

When I was able to work, I did do some overtime especially if we tired to fill a quota at work in making signs or doing inventory. When we worked overtime we got time and a half not bad, but we also didn't have kids waiting at home. We would work 10 hours normal day and 12-14 on days of overtime..but it was always worth it..especially when th paycheck came in with he extra much needed cash. For 8 days work I made $762.00, not alot to some but for me it was.

Hello,
well, this week I have to do overtime too cuz a big game is going on next to the place where I work(X-Game). I work at food service place and it must be busy this whole weekend.
Mostly I work 14 hours a day and now I have to do from Monday to Tuesday. It is crazy but I will make money though, so it is alright with me and I also have two children too.
Hope I can take a week off right after this game.

I never had a job where overtime was required, although I always wanted one because of the money! I'm unemployed now so overtime is a pipedream. But your children must miss you when overtime comes, I hope they can understand you need to work. Have a great time this weekend with your family!

I wish I had lots of overtime to work. I could really use some extra money right now.
My boyfriend works in utilities, so he gets lots of overtime, especially when there are storms. As a matter of fact, Monday he worked 7 am to almost 11 pm, Tuesday he worked 8 am to almost 9 pm, and today he is scheduled 7 am to 4 pm. His shift might run longer today and tomorrow and Friday. There is no way to tell what time he might actually get off until they analyze the job sites and get all the work done. He will probably have over 55 or 60 hours this week. He will have a nice paycheck!!
Some weeks he only get 40 hours of work, but other weeks he can get more than 50 or 60 hours, and sometimes even more than that in inclement weather when there are lots of power outages and such.

I have to study overtime as I am still a student. Especilly a week before the final examination. I have to study day and night to review the lessons. When I feel tired, I saw others working hard and cheered up to go on my study.

I used to be an Area Manager, the Staff worked all different hours and then visit the Customers as well
But we never got paid for it we where on a Salary and believe me it was not much, but I loved my job, till the Firm got told about my Illness they bullied me out of my Job, and the fight took it out of me, my Doctor told me then that I would not be working again
But I used to love my Job, I had worked always till my Illness appeared and I still miss work now

I work for myself, and so does my husband, so we can work as much or as little as we want. We manage our own website to sell them. We also do a lot of earnings on line, and can easily set our own hours. We are two of the luckiest people in the world to be able to do that.

No, my job doesn't give too much OT. Actually, we hardly ever get any at all. They rarely will ask a few people if they want to work OT. For example, a few months ago they were short a few people so they asked a few of my coworkers (not me though) if they could work one-two hours over the following day. It's always nice, however I'm not a fan of overtime. It can be boring real quick and plus they take a lot of money out in taxes. We are offered some bonus for doing a good job, I think I'd rather do good during my regular shift and get the bonus(es) that they offer. However if they offer me OT I'd probably take it, though.

Hi singlemommy and smile
I have a lot to say for this topic because I myself is really working so hard here at the office. I really need to extend working hours late at night to finish my task or special assignments during the day. Sometimes i want to go home early but after taking my lunch break, my boss will call me for new assignments so i have to render longer hours just to finish that task. I wish i can go home early. What i do is just to enjoy my lunch break here at mylot and after 6pm, i still do mylotting so i wont be so stressed a lot. This is the site i really like to visit.
To relax at home, i just massage my legs or spend time taking notes in bed.
Happy mylotting and smile always!

I can say I am efficient, because I have never done overtime.
I can manager my time well and complete work within the estimates that I have given.
I think working overtime is not good for anything !
I work from 9 am to 5:30 pm everyday and I stick by these timings no matter what.
