Hello friends. Most of us work in several or many different places by the time we become a certain age. I have worked as a baby-sitter, a sales person, an IBM office worker, a bookkeeper, an editor, a volunteer, an artist, and a writer. How many different jobs have you had, and what were they? Thank you for any and all responses... Karen

Hi PeacefulWmn, I started out as an accounting staff in a German company based in my country, then I thought of career pathing, and having finished Psychology, I decided to have a career shift from accounting to Human Resources. I got employed as Personnel Assistant in a bank. Then I transferred to an insurance company as an admin staff, and after a year, I was transferred to human resources dept. of the same company as human resources assistant. I stayed for 9 years, and rose from the ranks - from assistant to manager, until the company closed. I had put up my own business, but still went back to the corporate world, I joined a manpower/staffing agency as hr manager, and stayed for 2 yrs, which I left to visit my mother in another country for a prolonged period. When I went back, I found my current job as the head of hr in a health care company. Whew!!! that was long LOL.

Hi Iriene, Thanks for the complement. The government here says the country has a stable economy in the midst of the global crisis, and this statement was backed up by numbers like increased GDP, increased number of investors, improved employment rate, etc. However, there is poverty everywhere, more and more families are going homeless and hungry, the country is still in enormous debt, and I personally think like - where are they getting their figures? The picture they're painting is so unreal. Hopefully, the improvements that the gov't has been bragging about will eventually be felt by the people. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Dear doryvien, Wow, give a pat on your shoulder..well done! Before I read your career history here, I realised your written English was very well worded..your sentences have a very nice flow, smooth and fluent when you response to my topics. Since you are in the corporate world, does the Philippines economic situation affected by the World Crisis? In Malaysia, I was still wondering because the restaurants still full house, the hotels fully booked, the shopping centres full of shoppers! Thanks and do keep in touch!

This can be one of the difficulties for those of us who freelance. But samples of writing and returning clients do help as for resumes and references. Karen

Wow, I didn't realize how many jobs I have had until I started counting them on my fingers. It's probably close to twenty. I've worked for companies, run my own businesses, and everything in between. It sure has been an adventure. So here goes: Farm help, Encyclopedia Sales, Switchboard Operator, Office Manager, Keypuncher, Bookkeeper, Arcade Attendant, House Cleaner, Day Care Provider, Grocery Cashier, Writer, Organizer, Interior Decorator, Teacher, Seamstress, Library Assistant, Medical Transcriptionist, Fund Raiser, Patient Advocate, Activity Director, Administrative Assistant, and Artist. There may be more but this is the list I could easily come up with.

This job is fuuuuuun! I've been a representative for a non profit group supporting at-risk youth. So i helped to solicit donations. I've worked in a car wash... great tips hehe. I've also taken the entrepreneurial route. I've made a few websites. They're listed on my profile.

While it wasn't a paid "job" I would have to say that of all I have done, parenting has had the biggest impact for the good on my life. Next to that, owning and running a business from my home has been the next most enlightening and rewarding.

Thanks Karen. It really is nice to have the experience. My non profit representative job has had one of the most significant impact on me. It's really helped me acquire valuable people skills. What Job would you say has had the most lasting impact on you?

Bravo, Mim :) It is wonderful to find, the first time around, a job/career that fills one with contentment. Some of my friends have had that good fortune, and worked at their first place of employment until they retired. Have a beautiful weekend! Karen

Hello Karen. I have altogether worked in three different places, one of which was just a temporary summer camp teaching job for one month in a small town. I worked in my first working place for fourteen years and then I moved to another province and have been working here for twelve years and I love this place, a small town very much. I guess that I will keep on working for quite a long time. I have always been engaged in teaching without switching to another career. I love my teaching career and my lovely students. Good day to you, Karen.

Hello William Ji. Three jobs is a nice number...not too many; not too few. You seem to have kept each for long periods of time...and of course, moving does necessitate a job/career change. Teaching is a very wonderful thing to do. The world would be a sorry place without our teachers! Karen

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, Traditionally, we had only one Job and tehre was no change, I was teacher before marriage and never opted for any job and remained house-wife till date. My hubby joined Armed Forces and retired as per age (55 yrs), my elder son joined Govt service and never changed so far after completing 13 yrs (there is no hope for him to change the job). My younger son is Soft-ware engineer and his wife as well and tehy are working for same company since more tahn 12 yrs now and they would never change it. I do not understand basically, why people tend to leave the job. May god bless You and have a great time.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, I do agree all your views. In fact, if you go as per our family traditions, we have been assigned task of 'preaching' and so our grand parents were teacher, my FIL was a teacher, I was also a teacher. Better job is always considered with better perks. In case` of my son and his wife, who have been associated with one particular company and do not want to leave are of the views taht wherever they go, they have to start building relations from the begining and that time of life they have already given to present company. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hello my friend :) Many people here, and I'm sure in some of the other countries of our world, change jobs as a way of bettering their income or finding something they truly enjoy. Others find a job that pays well enough and that they like and at which they excel, and like your family, that is what they stay with :) Have a blessed Friday. Karen

I have started working from the year 2005 and since then I worked in three different companies, actually I didn't add the jobs which I have done during my college days those are part time jobs (as a Teacher in a Tutorial) If I have to include them then the number will be FIVE. Have to see how many companies are waiting for me out there

Hi Ammudoll. Like you, many of us begin with part time work in our school years, which gives us some experience, which is good. And then, too, these days it is quite common for people to work several, or even many, places until they find the one right for them. Good luck in the work world :) Karen

Yeah! I did change my jobs.I was working for a company called Webhelp in 2005 for 2 years and then moved to another comoany called 247. I was there for just 4 months and then moved to C3i where I worked for a month. Finally I was in GSS for 2 and half years. SO I was working for almost 5 years in 4 different companies.

Hi Kal. I think we do that, what is called "job-hopping," until we find the right work and work place for ourselves. We work our way up :) Best wishes in your career, and thank you for the response! Karen

Hi PeacefulWmn,I was a fresher then when I landed a job in a construction firm, for over 11 years in same company I was assigned on various departments starting as an administrative/personnel assistant, then as a purchasing assistant after a year has been assigned as the purchasing department head. With such a good administrative training background I was promoted with greater responsibility to handle the factory yard of the company as an officer in charge. It was the peak of my career when I married and decided to join my husband abroad. There I found a secretarial job in a small company and currently I am in a multinational pharma company as a secretary to the country manager. My job abroad doesn't sound exciting but compensating i should say! ... Add me in your friend's list please! Thanks.
