I've seen this in one of the episodes in the TV Series, "House" in which Cameron wants his boyfriend to propose to her, which he did immediately. In your opinion, do you think a woman should do so, or does it happen only in the movies? Do you also think that it is possible for a woman to propose to a man? Just thinking aloud, and hope for a good discussion on this topic.

In Islamic culture it is permissible for a woman to propose to a man. There have been many cases of this nature, and it happened to me too.
What I regard as unfortunate, leading to misconceptions about Islamic culture, is the mixture of other dissimilar cultures with Islamic traditions. Where the understanding is shallow, and the influence of previous culture is very strong, women who propose to men are looked down as being shameless. To worsen the situation there are religious teachers who follow the crowd, because they want to become popular.

Hi rosdimy, I've learnt something new about Islam from you, something which I didn't know. Yes, indeed there are many people who are ignorant not only of Islam but ignorant of other religions too (which has caused problems in some parts of the world). Thanks very much for your invaluable input :)

hi kevchua! what has the world gone into? a girl proposing to a guy? what's wrong with this scene? everything! i don't want to sound very traditional but i don't think it's the place of a girl to propose to a guy. if there is someone who should promise to love only one person for the rest of his life and give an engagement ring, it should be a guy. a girl asking a guy to marry her is just wrong! if that is normal, then the world has turned upside down. if that would be the case, then why not let the man carry the pregnancy too?

Yeah, it could be possible for other cultures. It's the 20th century now and women are becoming more outspoken and liberated these days.
But in my culture, men does the proposing and not the women. Personally, I think I can't propose to a man. What if the man isn't ready yet, I don't think I can take it if a man turns down my proposal of marriage. It would be very embarrassing on my part hehe.
Ciao!

Today's women can do anything leave alone proposing. They are even accused of raping poor, innocent and defenceless males, how sad. Males need security cover

Yes, it's totally possible for a woman to propose to a man. However, can a man tae it if he is being proposed on the other hand? Frankly speaking, if a couple got impregnated before the marriage, isn't that already a proposal from a woman to a man? If the man does not have serious thought of settling down, then for the sake of a child, is he already considered being proposed by woman?
Anyway, in the current time, there are more proposal from a woman who wanted to settle down to a man who is enjoying their life... do you agree?
