Dogs usually bite people out of fear. Unless they are sick, dogs won`t bite for no reason.
I`ll give you an example. I trained my dog to be used to people grabbing and poking her, by convincing her it was all a game. I have a neighbor who is not very smart about dogs. She liked to stop me in the street and shake her finger in front of my dog`s nose, saying, `Now be a good doggy, or your Mommy is going to spank you`. Now, besides the fact that I`m not my dog`s mommy, I did try to warn her not to point at my dog. She ignored me. One day, she met a dog that wasn`t as well trained as mine. This dog`s owner told her not to get too close to the dog. Of course, she ignored him, and the dog bit her.
Moral of the story, the dog had a good reason to bite. At least in the dog`s mind.

It definitely depends on the situation! I mean if I am playing rough with the dog and it bites me lightly and I am not even hurt by it, I will just swat it on the nose and tell it "No" or something. But if it were to just viciously attack someone for no reason at all, I would consider putting it down. But there are lots of in between situations, too. Like it depends on if the dog was aggravated. I mean if it's eating and you go and grab the food away, it's no surprise if the dog bites you. But if I really believed a dog was dangerous I would have it put to sleep.
