Street demonstrations - what benefit does it bring, if any?

We see street demonstrations on televsion quite regularly. It happens in my country too. Street demonstrations are done as the people believe that it is the only way their government would listen to them; they want quick reforms. Often, these protests turn ugly and many innocent people will be injured.
Do you think that street protests is the best way to wake the government up and to force the government to meet the people's demands? I don't.
What about you?

NO! and please, don't even resort to this.. it won't work in Malaysia.. It's such a nonsense act to behave this way... If it's just to send a message through to the government on some issues, we can have better resort, and not just by street demonstrating.. It is such a mess, and it make lots of people inconvenient due to the traffic... This is also a way that the govt will take advantage of this, to badly image the opposition parties and stuff.. In our country, I always find it different ways of our govt handling these, comparing to other countries..

Thanks cwong77 for your quick response. Indeed, as I've thought, it's never fruitful. There are avenues to get the government to listen. It's rather unfortunate that people tend to follow blindly what others are doing, not knowing that the way things are run in other countries is different. A demonstration could hardly ever be "peaceful" - it's something which people fail to see.
Cheers!

Street rallies are pointless really. Instead of thinking of ways to solve their problems, they march on the street and cause inconveniences and drama. It does next to nothing and it's just saying that they rely on the government to do something for them.
