Are the actors using ketchup or washable paint as their blood?

You know how we all see a horror movie and when the actor or actress gets hurt or killed, they start to bleed. Even an animal or a monster. So, what is really making them bleed? I know that it is not their real blood or they would be really dead. So, what comes out of them to make them bleed such brightly and deeply red. What did you think they used to make them bleed the color of red like blood?

From watching all those behind the scenes shows with my hubby, I've come to find they use different stuff, depending on who's doing special effects. They make substances to look like blood out of other stuff. They probably did use something as simple as ketchup back in the old days though.

Definitely not ketchup! You know the power of make up? Even children can make themselves appear bleeding these days. Go to any toy shop and go to the 'costume' section, especially come halloween. You'll find some pretty amazing make up kit there. All sorts of 'injuries' make up are available. You can even get your bones to be protuding out and bleeding! Try it, you might get to scare your loved ones!!!

I always heard that they use ketchup, but I think its probably washable paint, they do have fake blood, like what they use around Halloween and stuff, maybe that's what it is.

Most times it's packets of red dye in their clothing that are made to explode and look like they've been shot or cut or whatever. Other times, when the camera cuts away they would smear some blood somewhere on the body to make it look like they have a wound. I jokingly like to say that they really are killing these actors because Hollywood doesn't want to pay them anymore. LOL! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

They can use food coloring to create many different colors. It is an optical illusion. The "blood" could be a combination of things like ketchup, paint, corn starch, beet juice, cranberry juice, food coloring, etc. With the food coloring or paint, they could make you believe the "blood" is green or blue or orange. They are able to make you see things that are not even there by using computer animation or graphics. They are just so tricky.

hehe it is an interesting topic! I use to think they are ketchup too when I wa slittle but you can tell they are not because ketchup is not too too like liquid and blood is deeper color so I think they use paint to pretend real blood. I would like to know.

I think it is mostly ketchup. Wahsable paint may be harmful for the skin and I dont think these actors would be keen to repair their skin which is after all their daily bread!

They're using fake blood. Like you would find in a halloween store.
