Have you ever turned off your notifications?

Well I got my notifications on, and I am about shut mine off so that I don't recieve any more notifications when a friend starts a discussion. Every time I go to do my email I see nothing but your friend started a new discussion. It would not be so bad if it was just a few discussions a day but it is like I get a good 70 notifications stating that this same friend made a new discussion. What I am wondering is do you blame me if I did that? I try my best to at least read all the discussions that my friends make but that is a lot of discussions then. Do you have yours turned on or off and why? Happy Mylotting

My notifications about friend's started discussion is turned off. I do not changes settings in my notifications. When i signed up years ago, other notification like if someone responded or commented me, someone messages or friend request me, it is turned on. Yesterday, i turned on all friend notification and when i open my inbox mail, lot of discussion was started by my friend, i do respond because of the notification, but my inbox received many messages from mylot and i am thinking to turned off it.

That is, and i'm going to turned it off to some of friend that is not active for now. It is good too to turn on because you are updated of your friends discussion, responses and comments, friend request, private messages in your email box. The downside is that, we received many messages in our mailbox or if we do not read it through our mailbox, in mylot, that in other way we can browse interest discussion of ours and not bothering ourselves of deleting such notification. Good idea..

That is one of the reasons I am having it limited to certain friends. Because I went to go and do my survend such that and saw that I had nothing but notifications because of it. What's worse is that it's usually only a crtain amount of friends that start the discussions. I can understand if it is just a few discussions started but when it is around 70 or so everyday then there is a problem Happy Mylotting

Yes that is the big downfall. I am glad that you thought it was a good idea to turn on certain ones and such. I hope that this will give my email box a break from recieving to many mylot notifications that friends started a discussion. Happy Mylotting

I have all mine turned on, but you can pick and choose which friends that you wish to here from. all you have to do is turn the notification off That is the first thing that i do each day is go to my e-mail so i can respond to any of the discussions that my friends have started. I only respond to the ones that i believe that i can add too. but 70 notifications from one person is a bit much, and if that happened to me i would have to think about it. It would depend on if the discussions were in a category that i have a interest in.

Well I did end up turning the notification off for this friend because I can't respond to discussions that only have like one paragraph in it. I can't add on to it when it is done up like that. Although what stinks is that the intrest are in my ally just isnt long enough for me to have an intrest to the certain topic. Happy Mylotting

I have my system set up to receive notifications under two conditions: 1) someone responded to a discussion that I started 2) someone responded to a response that I wrote. You can always see the discussions your friends start under the "Discussions" tag, as well as discussions started under one of your interests.

I should start doing the notification thing the way you do it. That is such a great way to do it, because then I wont have my email being clogged up all the time. I like your system it makes sense. Happy Mylotting

Since it's the same friend starting around 70 discussions in a day, ask yourself this..Are they quality discussions with some thought to them or just your basic one-liners that require one or 2 words to answer. If the 2nd, then maybe you could alert your friend to the fact he/she will end up with a whole bunch of discussions deleted because it's a violation of mylot rules. I've only turned off my notifications twice. Both times it was because I lost my internet at home or my computer was acting up. I turned them off so my inbox wouldn't be clogged with 100's of discussions. Most of the discussions I respond to come directly from my inbox. Rarely do I get bored enough to go seeking them out here in mylot.

You have a very good point here. I know that this one friend seems to do discussions that has maybe about 1 paragragh in it. Sometimes it is hard to respond because there is not enough description to it to even respond. I although will find good discussions sometimes that gets sent to my box to respond to. Happy Mylotting

I have my email nofications on, but I never ever get that much as far as notifications are concerned. I basically get notifications that my response was commented on. I don't get any other notification. I never know when my frineds start discussion, as I have so many friends that I would be reading discussions for ages. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I see where you are coming from when it comes to reading discussions for ages.... I think I might just turn off that certain notifications. I like recieving the notification that you recieved a comment/response or recieved a best response. Sometimes I don't catch those when I am on Mylot itself. Happy Mylotting

I have turned on all of my notifications . But I am not receiving any notifications regarding the discussions started by my friends..Also this is not necessary to receive notifications regarding the friends discussions If we have 100 friends in my lot and if they start at least two discussions, then who many mails we need to receive..I am getting mails only for the responses to my discussion and about comments, friend request etc.,only.I feel this itself is enough to locate the discussion and participate easily by following the link in the mail.

Very well put, I never thought of it like this. To me I figure if I come to mylot everyday and do discussion then maybe there is no need for me to have that part of the notifications on. Happy Mylotting

Honestly? I've never had my notifications on to begin with. I have way too many friends and I do not need to sift through 100 notification emails a day simply because my friends started a discussion on what toothpaste to buy. It's just a huge hassle to me. I'd rather come to Mylot and actually read them here and spare my email account.

Great response, I am actually going to turn all of my notifications off. I should have had it like that when I first started because I always come here everyday. Happy Mylotting

Hi Seppy. No, I don't have all of mine on. I only have a certain few selected (yours included). If I was to have every one of them turned on I'd be bombarded with emails. I get more than enough as it is, and with everyone else I search through mylot directly though the "discussions my friends started". Hopefully this doesn't offend anyone, but it works for me. I couldn't see turning them all off, but I have turned some off after getting a ton of discussions from particular users where I couldn't relate to any of their discussions. Ironically, I have a few where I I know I turned the notification on, yet never received a single notification when it comes to them starting discussions. And I know that they started new discussions because I find them here on mylot.

Aw, thanks. Do the notifications work for you with discussions that I start? Not that it matters, I'm just curious is all. Yours seems to work like it should, though sometimes I slack and don't get to respond as quickly as I should when I see a discussion of yours that I want to respond to.

Actually, for some reason yours and my mom's never shows up in my inbox, what is strange is that I have double checked to make sure that your's and my mom's was on. Every time I check it shows that they are on. So I always go to your profile itself to check for the new discussions you start. Happy Mylotting

I feel very much privliged that mine is on. Yes that is why I left certain people on because there was others where I could not relate because of the topic being only one paragraph or it is a topic I don't like at all. I too have the same problem as you do, I have some of those friends on and yet when they do start a new discussion, I will sometimes not get an email. I too have yours on. Happy Mylotting

I have the s ame problem. I get so many in each day it fills my box, I do go in and read all the discussions, I try to reply to as many as I can given I am in a retirement home and have to stop for meals, etc, etc. I am thinking too of shutting off the notifications as I do respond any way and i have to do a lot of deleteing each day. God bless and good luck.

Well I think doing this would help you a lot then. I see that you are a busy typer, I wish I could sit long enough in spot and do nothing but mylot. But I can't because I have 2 children and sometimes I get bored. But I figure if I can keep it at my average of at least 30 posts total a day between my discussions and responses then I will be doing great I think. God Bleass to you too and Happy Mylotting

Mine is turned of and will remain off. My inbox was filled with too many notifications. If I want to respond to a friends discussion then I will just do it from the homepage. I just refuse to have that happen again.

Mine were never on for some reason. And i manage fine. Takes a bit of effort to go and check the discussions but thats all. Saves getting loads of emails and having to sit and delete all the emails, saves time! You can always switch it back on presumably if you dont like it!

Some of the friends notifications are off. well, some of the discussions by the same user are too many for me to reply upon and probably might low my chance of earning high because i kept replying to the same interest over and over. i will go back to my friends list later so that i can turn them on..

Very good point here, That is how I feel that I cant reply to the same person over and over because it gets boring and plus like you said it could lower my chances of earning because of it. Happy Mylotting

I know what you mean. My inbox is full of such notification mails. I have now disabled the notifications. My take is anyway I will log in to mylot and check who said what. So why should i allow my inbox to get full?

yes i had to turn off my notifications today because my email is down because i get so many comments and things from here and other places! and its really upsetting because thats my offical email that i get all my important stuff from. so i might not never have notifications again sent to me email. really said because i like hearing comments from people. i wish mylot would make something where you can get notification here on this site in not flooded in your email.

Yes that would be very nice, like maybe a folder where all of our comments go to when our friends do comment. Because if I logged on and saw that my folder says you have 15 new comments then I know that I should do that first. That would be a big life saver to our emails then. Happy Mylotting

You got a very good point with why you won't turn yours off. I like to have mine turned on but I get so many notifications saying that your friends started a new discussion. So I went through and turning of certain ones. Because I want to keep it on. Happy Mylotting
