I do not say anything but the fact says all. We are a vast country and what happens in which corner of the country is not predictable. Just the day before yersterday a grand father threw his 28 days daughter in the paddy field pond and killed the new born as he was directed by the BABA of the locality that she would bring all misfortune to the family and the BABA suggested him to kill his grand daughter and the result was that the new born really got her destiny. What is your version on this?

I think it is stupid to listen to superstition and the fact that the grandfather killed his granddaughter is in itself the biggest misfortune. The BABA is equally at fault of the murder and should suffer the consequences.

Hi undedogtoo, Better late than never. But it is really frustrating to think that it persist at this age too. You and me and few other can nor eradicate it so easily and so fast. This is perhaps in the human nature and would be there forever sadly.

People will believe anything if it's been taught to them long and hard enough.... sad as it is. This is why we have wars, religious or political. This is why lives are lost and futures ended. Poor child.

I'm with Alice. My heart cries for children lost to ignorant beliefs.

What to say Rajib…if not superstition then female infanticide would have got the child sooner or later…and to think a grandfather!….grandparents are always looked upon as indulging their grandkids…maybe you and me have not really come face to face with the gut-wrenching apathy and hypocrisy which is ingrained in our fellow countrymen in many parts of this vast and strange land. No punishment, if ever meter out i.e., would be enough for this old man…may his conscience and fear of hell be his true judge.

Hi su, "vast and strange land" - is the appropriate word for us. Just fancy what does not happen here? May be we in the forefront on such bizarre things as superstition is there around the globe. Might be we have better grip over it.

I was born in a poor family too but guess what my parents didn't kill me or anything. How could someone kill his own out of money? Did he really think he can escape his karma? well so be it then. He is gonna pay for it, by suffering misfortunes especially because he's got blood on his hands. Nothing is free in this world, including taking a life. He's gonna pay for it tenfold.

Hi Mel, Thinking and the social set of each part of the globe is not the same and here the grandfather did not kill for money but to check lest any evil things should follow after the birth of this girl child as he the blind and deaf would not listen to reason but to a fake soothsayer who is a hoax in himself.

I think this is the product of some customs and traditions. These people relies on their wrong belief. Is BABA a supreme being that he/she could tell man's future and destiny? This is the result of the people believing on the acts and ability of same human being. They've been blinded and deceived by this impostors claiming they have extra powers that can see the future. These poor people who'd been deceived by these impostors, neglected and denied the true Supreme Being that can foretell our destiny and future...Nice topic my friend..

No friend this is not any product of custom and tradition. This is an individual whim whispered by a satan and the act is over.

Hello my friend krajibg Ji, It is very much sorry state of affair. It shows illeteracy in taht part of the world that some genes are seen from Emporer 'kans' who wanted to kill all eight children of his sister 'Devaki' asthey would be bad omen for him, but never got success. This grand father would also meet same fate. I think, Baba too requires to be dealt leagally for provocation. Let's educate our society. May God bless you and have a graet time.

Hello my friend krajibg Ji, I extremely apolize you for hurting you. At my level, I never believe these type of super concious nature and also do not want indulge in convincing others. But BABA must be taken on task, who made taht grand-father to kill that child. BABA is equally responsible for that. May God bless You and have a great time.

Personally I have never understood countries like this that make people kill their own children and family members like this. I would think personally this would cause a lot of heartache and remorse to where people would have a hard time living with themselves. I personally consider such a thing like this murder, and wish somehow more people in other countries could have their eyes opened to a better way to live and life as well.

This is so unbelievably wrong that it is difficult to believe that people can be this easy to brainwashed. Regardless of your belief there comes a point in time when you must realize that the person telling you to do something is really only human with all the faults we all have. No human has the divine right to play God. I am not familiar with what the BABA is. What you say here sounds like the beliefs of century's ago. It seems to me, from the way you describe it, that the BABA is like a grand master of the community to which all bow down. What he says is God like and you must obey. The superstition that is so evident here is so wrong and has always been. To believe the family fortune can be brought ill only because a child is born is pure superstition and this grandfather will carry this with him for the rest of his life. The family fortune will be what it will be but only with one less member. The destiny of the new born was not for this BABA to decide.

Hi there, BABA hee stands for a makeshift omniscient who cheats on the poor and semi literate and sometime literate too that they are running a bad time and only doing this or that that badness could be corrected. Now more or less all would fele it if are said that due to this or that this or that is happening. And yo would like to fix it. But without realizing the authenticity of the BABA's speech when people are on foot it turn into an action like this.

The act in itself is more barbaric than the word barbaric.. I am disgusted by this news, on what the old man did. Whatever was on his mind, did the devil got to him or what. Poor baby.. 28 days old only? These kinds of things are quite common nowadays. From the average Joe, poor farmer right up to modern businessman. I've read a news before this successful man killing his own daughter (and he's rich and lived on the posh area) because he believed the daughter was a demon. No comment.

People tend to believe in some crazy things and that causes them to do some crazy stuff. You can bet your bottom dollar his attormy is going to have a field day tyring to convince one and all that his client was not in his right mind when he committed the act. Sometimes these beliefs just cause people to become bloodthirsty fanatics. I am sorry to hear of this though.

This was so devastating. i just hope the grand father would be punished for this. Taking the life of an innocent was so morbid, what more if it was your relative it was really condemned to hell.
