Hi whiz17, If you didn't have any anti-virus software, it is very hard to ride out the virus. You had to have one. But you could reformat your computer and that mean a lot of work. There is a lot of free anti-virus software available on the net. Just goggle it. Here is the link for one of the free software website. You can download a lot of free software including anti-virus there. http://www.filehippo.com Good luck and have a nice day.

hi, if you don't want to use antivirus software, you will quick format whole disk, not full format, it only cost several minutes to clean virus in disk completely, it is the fastest clean virus method,of course unless you don't want to lose your data in computer.(laugh) Also, you could use Recovery Genius, Deep Freeze or PowerShadow kinds of recovery softwares, they can help you avoid virus attack your pc, when you restart pc, your pc go back to your current clean system by this sfteware, it looks as the virus never attacks your pc.

May I ask how you "just know that my computer has been infected by virus" if you don't have antivirus software? Everybody who's answered so far has taken the assumption that you do indeed have a virus but how do you really know? To find out for sure, you can go here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ OR http://www.kapersky.com/virusscanner/ (you may want to try a few; just search as there are a lot more if you want different ones) to scan your computer without installing any software. This will tell you if you have a virus or not and you can be 99% sure of their accuracy as they should have the latest virus definitions. If nothing shows up here, it could be that your computer is running slowly because it hasn't been maintained properly (i.e. disk defrag, empty recycle bin, uninstall unused programs/features, etc.) Please let us know the results of your virus scan!

Honestly, many years ago, I completely gave up on trying to clean viruses off my computer without anti-virus software. I did attempt it for awhile, but the struggle and hassle, and head aches were not worth it. I keep all the important files I really want to keep, on burned DVDs or even on another computer. When I get a virus, or Windows decides to be retarded, I simply wipe the whole drive and install a fresh copy of Winblows. Yeah, 2 hours spent reinstalling winblows does suck. And yet it stinks to try and reinstall various software (if you don't have a back up). But the alternative for me of spending days, weeks, even a month trying to figure out some stupid problem, was just not worth it.

Use system restore at the date that you know that the system has no virus. Please follow the instructions how to restore the system from the time it has no virus. after restarting your computer, use disk clean up to delete all files and the system restore files. And get your antivirus free at avast.com. Hope this helps.

You can't clean some viruses without use of antivirus as if you want to clean viruses from windows/system or system32 folder you need to stop few processes which is not possible manually. and yeah you can remove some less infected viruses by searching.. go to run type "cmd" and type dir/ah you will get the list of hidden and system files and if you find autorun.inf with suspicious behavior.. you can delete those files with autorun.. and also if you have good grip on computer you can check in registry specially in HKCU..

Without using an anti-virus software according to me its impossible to remove the virus from your computer. I know viruses can be manually removed without using an anti-virus from the registry only if you know the virus name. I am saying this because once I removed a virus from my computer manually by going into the registry. The manual removal information is available on trendmicro official web site where you can enter virus name and all information is given from trendmicro's online virus encyclopedia. You can get your computer scanned online but in this you still are indirectly using an anti-virus. The other only way remaining is to format your hard disk but this can't be done because all data will be lost.

Its not exactly possible to remove virus without anti-virus but there are a few ways to do it. There is a software named ccleaner it deletes all the unwanted temperory internet files, browsed data[these are the main places were virus get saved] it also cleans the registry and connects the improper files to the correct path. Give it a try as its the best and it works good with me. Its better to have a antivirus in your system The best option if no antivirus then the only option is format.

Use free antivirus tools and they will clean the machine for you. AVG antivirus offers free tool that can be downloaded. Install it and scan your computer to remove viruses. If your system files are affected you can try executing scan disk utility of Windows. Remember when computer is not shutdown properly we used to get this utility coming up and checking for files.

To add, when you use recovery software, make sure you save your data into the other place which is not affected by recovery software, or else, after restart, your data will be lost.

You can download free antivirus software like avira or AVG. All available in their respective websites. But if you want to remove the virus manually, you need a lot of patience and time like the following: 1. You can start the computer in safe mode by pressing F8 repeatedly while the computer is booting just before the windows XP splash screen appears on the screen. The windows menu appears, use arrow keys to select "start windows in safe mode" option. In safe mode, search for the name of the virus, select the filename and press SHIFT-DELETE altogether to remove it permanently. However if your computer is infected by lots of virus it's so tiresome to delete the virus manually. You really need antivirus software to do the job itself. Additionally, to avoid being infected by virus, use limited account because having multiple accounts open a lot of holes to let viruses enter your system.
