Do you wrap your gift

I am one kind of a person that I don't really enjoy buying gift, but if I do, I normally won't wrap it up, reason being?
1) I am not very good in wrapping (well, I can always ask the service from the shop)
2) I don't know what paper to use (and I got it free if I buy stuff from reputable shopping centre, but you know whose wrapping paper with their shop name on it all over)?
3) Environmental friendly, and this is the main reason! I find it much a waste of us wrapping up the gift, and when I pass to the person, it will just be tear or throw away just like that! and no point doing that extra mile and wasting resources..
So, to those close friends, I don't really give the effort of wrapping up the gift (it's good enough that I take the effort to shop for gift).. I just put in a nice paper bag, and pass it to them... and 'poof" they get to see the gift immediately without having to think how to disperse the wrapper..
I find it more practical to put the gift in a bag (nice one and not those plastic bag from the shopping centre) than having it wrap.
So, do you still wrap gift?

cwong77, first of all, nice to know that you are still giving gifts. These days, people hardly have time to meet up, what more giving out gifts. And since more and more gifts are being sent online, it hardly needs any wrapping. But I personally still prefer gifts the traditional way...
I wrapped myself in ribbon and presented it to my husband! Just joking. I am not a very good 'wrapper'. Normally, after I have purchase a gift, I'll head to the Customer Service section and get them wrapped there. Nothing fancy and all, but at least, they are wrapped.

This is a very interesting discussion.
I don't like to wrap my own gift, but I always use the services available in departmental stores or the particular gift shop in question. I am not good at wrapping things up, LOL.. I might mess it or worst, I might just stock them up inside a good looking box. I tend to that a lot, ha..

Hi there, It is a lovely discussion. I am a lazy woman. Whenever come to wrapping a gift, I will do it as simple as I can. I have a very bad experience in wrapping gifts. It happen few years back when I was ran out of gift wrapper. I end up use a Mahjong paper ( is actually a big piece of white paper) to wrap the gift. Then I tried to add some graphic on it. I just don't like the wrapping and unwrap process, sometimes it is a waste too to have those wrapping paper tears out in piece and end up throw in the dustbin. But it is just like a must to wrap the gift before we can hand it to someone. If you send a gift without wrapping, it seems like you are not respecting to others.

haha vingyan.. the thought of the last sentence need to be change.. if we do not have the 'heart' of giving a gift, no matter how much you wrap it, it do not have the significant meanings also.. for me, a gift is just to express how much we care and love for that person, and not just for showing off..
Wrapping with mahjong paper.. not a bad idea too ya.. at least we save some dollar and cents in those colourful paper..

I don't think that wrapping matters anymore nowadays. I see only two reasons for wrapping them. Firstly, you want to create a suspense (or don't want to reveal your gift which is "cheaper" than others). Secondly, you want your gift to look presentable - and for that reason you need to hunt for a nice wrapper and a ribbon, and get customer service at the store to wrap it for you.
For me, I'd still get a gift-wrap. It makes my gift look neat, presentable and respectful. I'd feel naked without wrapping them especially if they're birthday, Valentine's or Christmas gifts.

It is either the gift is cheap and you wrap it so it's presentable or the gift is expensive and you wrap it for being humble. I do agree with you that wrapping up a gift makes the gift looks neat, presentable and respectful.

haha.. kev.. you wrap your gift to hide the value? don't your friend open the gift in front of others? they still know about it right.. For me, I care less, I have the heart to get a gift, I don't want to have the trouble of hiding it.. and yes, your wife will be happy for your surprises on Valentine.. keep it going my dear friend.. and have a nice week ahead..

I dont think in wrapping a gift it is necessarily "cheap" and you are trying to make it look better. If that were the case it would be the cheaper stores that offer gift wrapping and not the expensive stores, well thats what it is like around here anyway. Have a good day :)

Hello Cynthia, is me Joanne. Nice to see you here.
I love receiving gifts, so it is totally okay for me if it is wrap or not wrap. But of course if it has been wrapped, it will have more a mystery feeling. Anyway, I like gift that being put in a nice bag because I can always keep the bag for daily use.
I am not good in wrapping gifts so most of the time I will choose the wrapping paper and ask the service from the shop.

yes, I always wrap my gifts. In fact, I love browsing thru the rows of colourful wrapping papers just as I love buying the gift. I also love buying other decorative items like satin bows and roses to decorate the wrapped gift, further. I believe presentation has a huge impact and the same book, wrapped in a beautiful paper and given just as it is…definitely not the same.

Ritchelle.. all thanks to the creativity of human beings, and we are able to come out for more of those convenience type of beautifying the gift rather than wrap it up.. at the very least we can recycle those carton bags than recycling the wrapper..

I love to wrap gifts ... especially during Christmas because it really lifts up the Christmas spirit. Normally, when I buy birthday gifts if the shop has wrapping services, I will let them handle it. Save my time, but it also depends on my mood. If I feel like do it myself, I will. So, to answer your question, yes, I still wrap gifts. Sometimes, I will also use the paper bag for the ones that are a bit difficult to wrap or just put them nicely inside the ready made gift boxes that are widely available in the gift shops.

Dear cwong77,My answer will be YES and NO.
It all depends on~ to who and on what occasions! For small children I will definitely wrap the gifts.
Especially for their birthday and Christmas prezents.
But if I got something for them when I came back from
holiday overseas, then I will just put inside a recycled
bag, nice overseas plastic/ paper bag:)
I like to see the joy in their face and their curiosity
as they open the wrapping paper...full of SUSPENSE
I enjoyed opening my presents when I am young..so I think those
very small children will enjoyed it too!BUT for those teenagers and adults, then I will
just give them directly in a nice paper/ plastic bag with a nice
message written on the 'to who & from who' card! And not forgetting
to put the 'very practical card/ tag/ stickers' provided by one of
the leading mall in Petaling Jaya - 1 Utama.
On the card/ stickers/ tag, will be a picture of a gift box with ribbon
and the striking words " GO GREEN WITHOUT WRAPPING "- save Paper, Save the Environment -
All the best and Go Green...

Iriene, that's what I mean I don't wrap gift anymore.. beside those troublesome wrapping effort, and the waste of paper, I just can't bring myself to wrap gift anymore.. but for kids (below 12) and also Christmas, I will do the wrapping, since it's not going to be open so soon..
thanks for responding, and all the best in MyLotting..

I wrap gifts normally because it will give the receiver the element of surprise and it also gives beauty and besides if you don't wrap it maybe the person who will receive the gift will not think that this belong to him/her...

If it's for a family members birthday I don't tend to bother worrying too much about the wrapping and generally use the gift bags, often reusing one which I have received a gift in in the past.
But when it comes to Christmas I always go to the effort of wrapping up presents properly as for me I still love seeing presents wrapped up under a Christmas tree and although there may be no children too get excited over what they got it just makes the day a bit more special and traditional.

To the relatives I often not wrapped the gifts except for weddings and christmas but to friends and others I do wrapped gifts just to make it a little formal. Right to the kids they enjoy tearing the wrapper and much excited knowing what the gift was.
