What's Up With Paypal?

United States
August 6, 2009 5:10pm CST
I have read a couple posts that say Paypal is now keeping a precentage of our earnings (a small precentage though, as I understand) due to their usage fees. Is that true? I haven't recieved a payment from Mylot in a long time (over 2 years) from being inactive, but back then, there were no fees to be paid to Paypal. I have seen some people state there are no fees, and others say there has always been fees. Does it vary by country? If there are fees to be paid now, approximately how much is paid or is it a flat rate?

Where did you hear this? I didn't hear it - then again maybe i wasn't paying attention? If that's the case, that sucks! *runs off to the paypal website to check it out*

I actually just read it on someone else's forum-I can't remember the exact title, but it had something to do with Paypal being a rip-off. Which was news to me, as it wasn't a couple years ago the last time I was paid on behalf of Mylot. That's why I asked-hoping it wasn't true, because maybe people have been posting to discourage members, but there is no truth to the matter at all.

Hi, Princess! I think I know which discussion you meant. I responded to that particular discussion and the last time I checked, Paypal will charge $5.00 equivalent to RM16 (Ringgit Malaysia) for the withdrawal fees. I am not sure if it varies for other countries. That reminds me to go and check their policies often.

The last time I checked, which has been awhile, it depended on the type of account you have and on how the money is paid into your account. If you have the very basic personal account and the money is coming from another PayPal account direct there was not fee unless it was paid by credit card. If you have one of the higher level accounts or are paid by credit card, there is a fee. I have never been charged a fee for money from here but will be in the future because I changed the type of account I have to reduce the percentage they charged when the money is paid by credit card because a site where I earn more pays by credit card.

If that is the case (which I may have done-upgraded my Paypal account that is-because I remember having to accept a credit card payment from something I sold on EBay a long time ago) Can I downgrade back to the free service?

Hi princess, like you I haven't had a payout for about eighteen months, and I haven't had any official notice from PayPal, so maybe they are just rumors. However, I'll know later this month as I'm over my target, and should get money this month.

Well, as one member explained on the post above yours, it depends on what type of account you. I don't ever remember paying any fee, so I would imagine I have a basic account with Paypal, but then I think I did upgrade something with Paypal when I sold something on Paypal, so I guess I am just going to have to see with the next payout I recieve, which will hopefully reflect this month's activity! With how much "work" we have to do here on Mylot, that would really suck to lose potentially a couple day's earnings to pay the Paypal fees, wouldn't it?

So you think that there are fees incurred if the amounts sent are low? That almost seems ridiculous though doesn't it. I could see them charging to transfer large amounts of money easier than attaching fees to the smaller ones. This will be interesting to see how much (if any) I will have to pay out of next month's earnings.

paypal has always had fees for using their service. unless yer recieving money from a business account.. say its used for yer pay check. its a set percentage per dollar processed. not sure WHAT that percentage is.. but ive always lost a few cents on the dollar getting money thru them, and ive had an account for 9 years now. this isnt anything "new"

Well, it seems to me that half of the group here on Mylot has always paid fees, while the other half has never paid them. That what doesn't make any sense. We are trying at this point to figure out who pays what and who doesn't pay anything at all. UNLESS it is now standard that everyone pays transaction fees.

like i said.. if payments are being recieved from a business account used for payroll.. there isnt any fees incurred. so maybe those who havent paid any fees.. were getting paid from a business account

Hi princess, I just had my first cash out from neobux via paypal, and when I requested for a payout, neobux sent me a prompt saying that the amount due me will have a deduction of 4% which will go to paypal. I've read in paypal guidelines that in some countries like the US they don't charge anything, and there is a list of countries and the charges per type of transaction, which vary from country to country.

OK, now I have heard this just recently somewhere else in this thread-that it DOES vary per country, and I heard the USA pays little or no fees. (Which is where I am.) But you are losing 4% of your earnings each month!! That seems completely unfair to you! Or does it not bother you?

Well yes, if you think about it, a part of my earnings is being taken away from me. But then again, all earnings are bound to have certain deductions - taxes, fees, etc. Paypal earns by charging those who use their system, and myLot and other earning sites pay thru Paypal only, so there's no getting away from it. I resolved to just accept it without feeling bad, I don't wanna harbor ill feelings towards things that are beyond my control. Peace!

I too haven't heard this about the fees from paypal. I will pay some attention to this. I received the pay out on another site and waiting on it to post to paypal. I will see if that happens, but I doubt it is true. I think paypal would send you a notice if this is going to happen.

I think this all depends on the type of account you have. If you have Business or Premier accounts at PayPal they charge a fee, but a simple personal account I think is without any fees. You should be able to find your answer on the PayPal FAQ page.

I've been paid into PayPal by several different websites lately and PayPal did not charge me any fee. One place that paid me charged a fee of a few cents due to PayPal charging them but that seemed fair enough since they send probably thousands of very tiny payments through PayPal every week. I did make payout last month so I'll have to remember to check when mylot sends the payment

I have never had them charge me a fee. I'm not sure if they are going to start doing it or not. I haven't got any emails about it either. I'm hoping they don't though.

i think if you are reside in USA with USA banking account, then withdrawal is totally free. but if you are outside of USA, then you may have to pay some fees for your withdrawal. so far i do have some money in paypal, but never done any withdrawal yet.

Really now? Maybe that's the reason why a few dollars are slashed off my account whenever someone sends money on my paypal. grrr. doesn't matter if its just a dollar or two, it still makes a whole lot of difference when i transfer the money to my local bank. *sigh*

Well, if you are talking a large sum of money to be deposited into your account, then you are right, what's a dollar or two? But for those who work hard all month to earn a mere say 12 dollars, then losing a whole dollars may be the equivilant to losing a whole 2 days worth of pay! Being the fact that there is still no concrete answer of a "yes" or a "no" with the Paypal fees, I guess we will all just have to see what happenes when we get paid next month. (Sigh.)

well, PayPal do charge fees, following cases are what I experienced, for you information. 1. your account is upgraded e.g. business/premium account when receiving payment, you will be charged. 2. you are receiving payment from credit card, PayPal will charge some service fee 3. when you receiving payment from different currency, PayPal will automatically charge the currency conversion fee.

Hmmmm....well that seems pretty basic, although still some people swear there are no fees, yet were not aware of all this. I guess we shall all see at the first of the month next month with our payments. Thanks for your response.

Nothing was said about anything being wrong with Paypal, we are just trying to get to the bottom of whether there are fees to be paid or not when having our earnings deposited into our Paypal accounts from Mylot. What is onlinekyash.com?

There have always been fees. You agree to them when you sign up for paypal. You do not have to pay anything extra for outgoing payments, but they take a small percentage of incoming payments. Always smart to read up on things when you join a site^^

Very true, it is a smart thing to do to read any website's rules and regulations before agreeing to them, that was there are no surprises later on. BUT.....our concern is the fees are now attached when they weren't before. I haven't recieved a payment from Mylot since April 2007 (long time!!) and back then if I was to receieve 10.75 in earnings payment, I received it in full with no fees taken out. After seeing a few different threads saying that Paypal now charges, it raised some questions so I was curious to get to the bottom of it.

Maybe it's a change in MyLot policies, then? I've had paypal since 2005, and they've always charged for incoming money.

This is the first I've heard about it. I don't get a payment from Mylot every month, but I am due to get one this month. I'll see if I get the whole thing this month, or if they take off a bit. I know they take some off when my husband sends me money via paypal, and with some other paid sites, but so ar I've never had the problem with Gather.

it depends on a number of things - for example, my client got a payment and was set up so all the money went from paypal to her bank - no fee I, on the other hand, have never gotten set up so when I requested a check, they kept some of the money for cutting the check - as a fee I have heard that if you do things with ebay and paypal you will now be getting a fee, but I'm not sure of that

This is the first time I have heard about this. Long before there was none. I will be waiting for the payout on mylot and see if it is really true. I have several payouts through my paypal before but have not seen any charges. The only thing that is deducted is when I withdraw my money from paypal to my bank. There is a standard charge. But higher amounts of withdrawal, usually in our currency If I am not mistaken at 7,000.00 Pesos and up, around $144 it is also free of any bank charge.

Well it is true that paypal keeps some of our money as service charges, but if your account is a pesonalised one they charge less, but it costs to be a pesonalised account user, though paypal charges it is negligble of the total amount.
