I dont really like people saying I am pretty, smart or something. I think they are being hypocrital. So I seldom say people are pretty. Bacause I dont wanna be hypocrital. And because I know what this feeling is. My relatives always say I am tall, can be a model something when I was a little girl. I didnt know how to react just smile.

Hello mermaidivy,
Honestly, it is very rare to hear me say these words. I seldom praise people though sometimes I do feel that person is really pretty or beautiful. I just don't like to praise others. As for me, I heard that many times before when I was younger but strange thing is that... I seldom hear those words nowadays! Am I really turn to ugly duckling? *laughs*

It depends on who is saying it and his/her attitude. But well I have not been given that compliment for a long time. The comment I usually get now is "You were cute as a kid"
.I mean everybody is cute as a kid. Then what is the point of saying it to some one who is already an adult.People just do not grow up, do they??

I guess it is good to take it politely as a friendly compliment, make yourself and the praiser feel better.

Some people say "you are pretty/cute" just to tease you OR to compliment you for the good you did for them. I do not say it to anyone unless he/she deserves it. Why would I say, you are pretty/cute if it does not comes from my heart. Maybe it depends on the situation or in the mood of a person saying those things. cheers!

I think I do believe it unless its coming from a salesperson whose trying to sell me something. When the try on clothes at the stores, the sales people keep saying how good I look. I try not to let them affect my judgement

I do not think I have heard that since I was a kid. I suppose I was cute, most kids are. I do not usually dish out that kind of compliment as an older male, people think I am being creepy if I say that, so the phrase rarely gets heard or said around me.
I see by your pictures you are an attractive young woman, so enjoy the compliments as long as they keep coming, but do not take them too seriously, I am sure most people are just being friendly.

I can determine whether a person says it just to be sincere/friendly by their tone of voice. Although calling someone pretty/cute just to be friendly can liften their mood, it's not truthful and if you don't mean it, you just shouldn't say it at all.

True. I agree with you, so I don't just say ti, when I say it, I mean it.
