Video card or Motherboard?

I think I may have lost my video card, I installed it about two years ago and now it will not work. When I connect my monitor to the newer video card I get a black screen. When I connect my monitor to the factory installed video card, the monitor works but some of my games and some screensavers will not work. Nvidea, the video card maker, suggests that there may be a problem with my motherboard, I'm not so sure. The Device Manager doesn't show the newer video card on the list.
Does anyone have any suggetions? I'd rather not buy a new video card if I don't have to. Any suggestions about another video card maker?
I'm running Win XP and I have 1GB RAM.

It can be a problem of your mother board. maybe it can't see the video card you're installing. When you plugged video card in your mother did you change CMOS settings? you have to switch from integrated videocard to newly installed. Try it.
PS. you can tell me models of you video card and mother board and I'll search if they're working together

The video card was installed a couple of years ago, so it isn't a problem of compatibility. I'm going to try to reseat the card and the memory card, and check everything else inside. Maybe the cabinent needs cleaned inside again. I don't understand CMOS, I'm fairly good at computer repair but some terminology is beyond my understanding.
I appreciate your reply and help.

CMOS is the BIOS setup. When you turn on your computer it's written something like that: " press del to enter setup" or " press F12 to enter setup". entering this setup you can set your video card as your main video adapter

i think your new video card is defective..
try consulting a computer expert about it..
or just read troubleshooting about video cards..
or maybe buying a new video card from a trusted store would be a very good decision.. :)
