I am a new buyer to the net and I am just wondering: What is the safest way to make purchases on the internet?? Are there certain products I should stay away from??
Do you buy products from the internet?? Cloths?? Household items?? Electronics?? I would love for you to share your experience. What did you buy? Did you get ripped off???

I would reccommend sticking to reputable sites, such as the sites of actual retail stores, or else try using ebay. I have never had a bad experience through them, and the one time that the item i paid for didn't show up after a decent amount of time, i was immediately refunded by the seller. If you do go with ebay, make sure to check out the sellers rating and comments from people who have previously done business with them.
As for the safest way to make purchases, i prefer to use my paypal account when possible, as then i am not giving out my credit card number to places i am unsure of. Though when it comes to major retail chains, i am fairly comfortable with doing this, as i trust they have safeguards in place to guard my security.
Always read over the terms and conditions and make sure you read up on their return policy and their policy reguarding lost items, as this can be important as well.
I haven't yet had a bad experience buying anything online, and *knock on wood* i hope i don't.

Awesome... Thanks. What kind of things have you purchased, if you don't mind me asking.

I have purchased clothing, small electronic items (sd cards for my phone, a sd card reader for my computer etc..) jewelry, gift cards, i don't remember what else. I don't shop on line frequently, but soemtimes as i don't drive, and i live in a smallish type area, if thre is something in particular that i am looking for, it is easier for me to find it online than to have to finagle a trip to the city.

I have brought watches, cell phone batteries, car parts, and clothing from ebay USA and JC Whitney to New Zealand. All been good, but I always pay for insurance, check out the sellers rating, and the type of shipping (e.g. surface mail, express, etc) as some came take a while (up to 6 - 8 weeks for cheap shipping).

That is the only setback!! If I choose to shop on the net I must be patient and wait on my products! But it is almost worth it considering you can buy things on the internet for half the price that would be charged in a retail store!

Hi AprilLynn. I buy online ALL THE TIME! Clothes, toys, electronics, software, auto parts are some of the items I can think off right off the top of my head. One thing I always do though is check eBay first before I buy anything other than clothes. You can catch some good prices there.
Don't buy from sites, that don't provide phone numbers, points of contact and don't provide a secure server when asking for credit card info.
Cheers
Stan

Contact information would be important!! I never thought about that! Thanks! I haven't used the internet to do any shopping just yet... But I found that I could save alot of money on certain products, so I wanted to look into it!
