I just did two days ago... I went to the beach in the morning for couple hours, when I came home, I realized I didn't bring the key (well, I thought I did that's why I closed the door) but apparently I forgot... my dog heard me and he went craz because I didnt'go in. Fortunately, my honey has half friday off, he will come home early, so I decided to go to the lake right down the street and wait for him so that I could see him when he drives by the lake. I got all toasty tanned after that day because it was so hot and sunny... waited outside for more than 5 hours... So we made a spare key to put outside somewhere JUst IN cASE! Have you ever had experiences of locking yourself out of the house? What did you do? Please share your stories, let me know if there are somebody like me out there!

I have lost count of the times I have done this. back when me and my girlfriend had a flat I locked myself out while she was at work. I had to break the glass in the front door to get in. The girlfriend was not best impressed.

no i have never tried that... but i locked myself out of the car a lot of times already. That's why right now, I bring 3 car keys with me... I bring the original plus 2 duplicates (one on my purse, the other on my pocket) then I have two more duplicates at home.. so I don't have to break my car open

I recall getting locked out of the apartment we used to live in when I was around nine years old and my parents left me at home by myself which I think I was too young for, anyway… They went out and left me alone with my cat. My kitty was a Siamese boy who used to enjoy wondering around upstairs on the roof. I don’t remember why I opened the front door but as soon as I did the cat ran outside so I chased him fearing he would run up the stairs and as I did the door slammed shut and, you guessed it, I had no keys! Luckily my aunty and uncle lived next door so I went to their place and waited there with my cat the whole time praying my feline would not go to the toilet on my auntie’s floor!

I don't have any relatives that live next to me so I cannot have place to stay when I forget my key...

Oh I have the worst luck with locking my self out. In March I locked my self out in the middle of a blizzard. I had wanted to take a walk in the snow. So here I am its like 1am and I am locked out of my house. I have no car and of course no key's. So thank goodness I live very close to a gas station and I walked down after pounding on my door for a very long time and getting no answer. I thought I would be able to call my husband and have him get up and open the door he never answered. So for several hours I was locked out. I was so cold I had stopped shivering that's when I knew I needed to get help or I was gonna freeze out on my front porch and knowing that warmth was just on the other side. I walked to the gas station and called my job collect because by this time I had made several trips and used up every cent I had, reaching my job I had them forward my call to my brothers cell phone and had him come and get me. Needless to say my husband woke up seen he had like a 100 missed calls and came and got me right away. He was so worried about me when he got there lol. That was probably the worse night of my life as far as cold and being miserable all at once. I am a wimp when it comes to the cold. I just cant handle it. Now I have my own set of keys that I wear around my neck on a necklace that way I am sure to never loose them or leave them behind again.

Yes I did this a couple of times, thankfully my daughter has a spare key and lives only two miles from me. But I keep telling my husband we need a spare key for outside in a safe place for that reason. He is getting one now because he locked us both out about two weeks ago and I did not have my purse since we were going to a swim aerobic class. He finally got in by crawling through the kitchen window and got his keys. He said he is getting a spare made for emergency. I hope so

I've locked myself out but it wasn't because I forgot keys or anything. I actually did take my keys to school that day because I knew I would be home alone until about 8 that night. So, the morning before I left for school I took my house keys and went to school. Well, I got home and tried to get into the house and the key would not turn the lock at all. I tried for a few more minutes until I realized that I just was not getting into the house. Thankfully it was Spring or Summer so I could sit outside. I tried calling some relatives but I couldn't get ahold of any of them. My last resort was to call my mothers work so she could come home and let me in. She ended up taking the evening off to come home. It took her about an hour to get home so I'm glad I was able to sit outside comfortably. For some odd reason, the key that I had just didn't work in the door. I ended up having to get a new house key in case I was stuck outside again.

Well it's impossible to lock myself out of my apartment because we have only a deadbolt lock so that can only be locked from the outside. I have definitely locked myself out of my dorm room so many times. It drove my roommate crazy and I would just hang out in my best friend's room till someone in my suite came home. LOL. My house up in CT has the doors that lock automatically so we use to keep a key outside hidden but ever since we have gotten an electric grage door that has a code we don't need the code.

Hi merimaidivy, Your experience is typical. It happens all the time. I have had several experiences of locking myself out. Thankfully we all have a set of main door keys , so its alright. But the best was when I visited our home in Mangalore all alone late at night after 8 hours of bus journey. It was pouring and I was tired, all that I wanted to do was get into the house and sleep. Just then I realised that I had left the keys back in Bangalore. I was in shock for a minute or so. I went and sent the night at a neighbor's place and got a lock smith next morning to get the door open. Now we leave a set of keys at a strategic place in Mangalore , just in case the experience is repeated by one of us ...

I did that once, a long time ago, and luckily i had a spare key that i always left with my Mon, so i paid her a visit and got my spare key so i could get in. Now that we have moved away and their is no family around, I keep a spare key in my car in the glove box. but hiding one outside the house also sounds like a good idea.

I've come close - but haven't yet...give me time, Im only 21. Im sure it will happen a lot! I have locked myself out of my car a ton of times, including at a water park...that was awful. We had just gotten there and the key was laying on the seat...so embarassing.

I have done that, but a very long time ago. Luckily my best friend has a copy, so I could always call her. Now, I need a key to lock my front door, so it would be hard to get locked out.

Yes I have locked myself out of my own house. It was a while back. Don't you hate it when you're home alone, you get out, going to school (I was walking), and you forget something. You forget your cell phone or your notebook. But I locked the door on the way out and I totally forgot one thing. My own backpack!! And I was wtff. What am I going to do? I had to go through all the hassle, call my parents, like 45 minutes away from my house, make them open the door, and miss my first 2 or 3 periods of my classes.

Hi mermaid...Oh yes! I locked myself out of the house one morning while I was getting ready for work. I had gone into the basement to get some clothes out of the dryer and locked the back door in the process. It was not that bad though because I was dressed and thankfully one of my neighbors was home and allowed me to use the phone to call someone who had an extra set of keys. You are not alone - but you should have someone who you trust to have an extra set of keys. Good luck!

I have tried it once. I dont bring my keys with me. Cuz my key is outside my house. But one time when I back home. I found no key. So the only thing I can do is to wait my mom back home. It was a really hard time I think. Thaty is my experience.

We did locked out of the house a couple of time. My mom and I have our own keys but sometimes, no one carry it. We didn't leave any key outside as mom said it's not a good idea. So I have to stick to it and sometimes, locked ourselves out. Luckily we can find a way to enter it without a key (not via the door of course~~~)

There was one time where I came home and all the doors were locked, but I had no key to get in. I ended up using a pencil to undo the latches on the screen inn my bedroom window and climbing in! Also, just yesterday my girlfriend's mom locked her keys in her car and we had to sit at a McDonald's and wait for someone to bring a key.
