Well, we are now 2 and a half months into the diet. The roomie is down 30 lbs, only 5 more and they can schedule surgery! I'm down about 20, and that's with no exercise to speak of - well, no more than I normally do in the course of a week.
But we have had no pasta to speak of. The closest is a couple of times we've made mac & cheese, a half a cup is all we are allowed, and we have stuck to this.
But spaghetti has been a no-no.
Oh man, have I missed spaghetti!
So, yesterday I put a spaghetti squash into the crock pot for about 9-10 hrs. Probably could've taken it out an hour earlier.
So tonight we got out some spaghetti sauce, took the inners out of the squash and heated them up. It was YUMMY! Probably ate a bit too much, but man, it was good.
And it satisfied a yen that we've BOTH had for AGES!
And the good news is... we have another one in there to COOK!!!
The bad news is we can't get them at Walmart, but that's okay, going to HEB isn't that hard to do.
So, that was another good experiment on the diet.
Have you tried any thing new lately?

Congratulations on the weight loss! I've never had spaghetti squash, but I've look at it wondering if it was good. What you did sounds delicious! Did you have to do anything with the squash before cooking in the crockpot, or did you add water? Sounds like something I'd like to try!

yeah, we just put spaghetti sauce on it - the roomie wanted a cup, I only had a half cup of sauce (she likes the sauce more than I do) then, we didn't feel complete and had a carb coming so we took a tortilla, spread some more spaghetti sauce on it, sprinkled some feta cheese (I put a little cauliflower on mine) and warmed them up - finally a handful of cherries and man - I'm STUFFED!

What a terrific link! Thanks! Did you see the speghetti squash with vegetables and mozzarella? Looks like a vegetable lasagna, only using the squash instead of pasta. If I can find one around here, will probably try that first. Will let you know if its good!

Well that is certainly great for both of you. I think it is just a matter of discipline if you want to lose weight. Just like what you did, you clearly showed that by doing some restrictions and control as well as choosing the right stuff will certainly accomplish your goal. Well, I wish you more success. I am not into something new, and is also not into a diet. But I feel that I am getting fatter so perhaps I should also start with good program later on.

That is wonderful that you and your roomie have lost all of that weight. My husband and I are trying to lose weight also with diet and exercise. We have not tried anything new recently though. Thanks for the tip. We switched to wheat bread instead of white. That is very good with ICBIB. I can't believe it's not butter. It is lower calorie.

I planted spaghetti squash one year... nobody really liked it too much. I can't remember now how I prepared it but I do know it wasn't 9 hours in a crock pot (didn't have one in those days).

I read on one guys blog that he used home grown spaghetti squash like a summer squash - you might try it again - with out little kids in the house it might be something enjoyable - it doesn't have a strong flavor so you can add the flavor you want to it.

There were never any little kids, just us big ones .
I don't have the room now to grow much more than lettuce, tomatoes, beans and cucumber up an obelisk, so I'll give it a pass.

I never had spaghetti squash, it looks all slimy and awful. But I like spaghetti! Congrats to your roomie, that's wonderful! What surgery is she having, a weight loss surgery? Check out David Smith's story at: http://www.staxsystem.com/davids_story.html THIS IS NOT A REFERRAL LINK! It's a very inspirational story, I watched it on TV and thought wow, if he can lose all that weight with just his own effort, I can surely lose this 40 pounds and be done with it!
Good luck to your roomie! I lost 65 pounds by paying attention to portion sizes and before that I thought it was just hopeless. I just gained back 3 of the 18 pounds I worked so hard to lose of the last 40 I need to shed.

well, I like squash anyway - so maybe that's why I can get past the looks
Yeah, she needs to lose about 150 lbs and she's been heavy since she was a teen. She's on insulin and that makes you gain so, has high blood pressure and cholesterol, so they think she's a good candidate for the surgery.

I am back on weight watchers again..I love that diet...I have never been what you would call fat but i do gain a few pounds here & there & that is when i start watching my weight & i always do weight watchers...I am diving into the WW/ ice creams, lots of fruit& veggies, chicken, turkey & smart ones....I have already lost.6 pounds in about 10 days...I am so happy that you & the roomie have stayed on yout diet & i see it is working...As far as trying new things/??? i find that you get really creative while on a diet & some of the concoctions are really good, like your squash spaghetti.....

I have had spaghetti squash a LONG time ago, and didn't remember not liking it, just didn't get it cooked enough then. That was way back in the early days of the rotation diet and I got no support from the former roommate - well, little support on the stranger foods anyway, she did support the rotation diet and avoiding the things I couldn't eat - that's when we started eating separate meals a lot, until it was more of fixing 2 totally different meals many nights a week. The current roomie is much better about fixing things I can eat, tho now we've been known to do the same veggies and fix different meats because she LOVES beef and I can only have it once week.

well, I don't even know if they have these squash where your at - but it didn't have an over powering taste, that's why, besides the string like nature of the plant, it works well as a veggie replacement for pasta... besides, do you need to lose 100 lbs... don't know what that is in kilos... sorry
