My husband has the habit of deleting all the forward emails without opening them. He thinks it is waste of time to go through them. I read some of the forward emails which I get. I open it only if I find the subject line interesting. Some of the forward emails are interesting and knowledgable. What about you?

If i delete the forwarded e-mails I recieve certainly depends on the sender i recieved it from. Also it depends alot on the topic. At my main e-mail adress i hardly recieve any spam so most mails i read, also the forwarded ones....
On my old email, i recieve quite a bit of spam, and that i certainly just delete instantly without even opening the mails at all,and reporting it as spam.

The problem with me is I have given my main email address to many of my friends and I recieve most of the spam there. I have other email addresses which I use only for online transactions. Many of my friends don't know about those ids. Sometiems I think sending forward emails is a token of love saying that 'I am still thinking of you'.Thanks for the response.

True some people seem to think if they forward a nice chain e-mail about love and careness, then the reciever should know they are still thinking of you and so forth. But to be honest id rather have them writing me a 3-5 line email about how life is going rather then a 100-line chainmail forwarded.

My husband also has the same opinion like you. Yes, it is nice to write three or four lines about their life, but it is easy to forwrard emails. You can send the same email to multiple people at the same time and there by you save some time compared to writing personal emails to ten different people.
Have you recieved emails with a warning saying 'if you don't forward the email something bad will happen in your life in one week'? I hate those kinds of emails. People are scared that something bad will happen and keep forwarding those emails to many people.

Nope.i won't do that.Almost all the mails that am getting in a day in my Inbox is forwarded mails. Here am getting very nice forwarded mails from my friends.Yeah i know there are people who delete the mail while seeing "Fwd" in the subject itself. So i used to edit the Subject while forwarding to others.

Yes, I agree that there are nice forward emails also, but soemtimes I get the same email again and again. I don't like to read it in that case. You are a tricky person it seems. I never got the idea of editing the subject. Sometimes we sent forward emails just to say that you are thinking about the person. Thanks for the response.

i normally at least glance at them, if they look like trash then i will delete them if I not then i read them. Although when one person is always sending me crappy forwards I will just end up deleting all of the ones from that person.

Ok. Before starting this discussion, I had a feeling in mind that most people go through all the forward emails they get. The responses to this discussion say that most people aviod reading boring forwards and they value their time. That is a good practice. I get a lot of forward emails, but I think the number is reduced over years. Thanks for the response.

Like you, I read forwarded mails only if the subject seems interesting. If I start to realize that its chain mail, or motivated by politics or religion I stop reading it right away and delete it.

I am also like you. I delete those kind of emails without reading them. Some religion emails come with a warning saying something bad will happen if you don't forward the email to atleast ten people. This is a trick to keep the email forward. I hate those kind of emails. My husband used to get a lot of forward emails boosting the spirit of military people. He hated them a lot and never opened them. Thanks for the response.

I never get forward emails from unknown person, most of them from my teacher or friend. Yes, I will read it first and then decided this email worth or not to be forwarded. You're right, sometimes we can get information sometimes there's unique and interesting info inside it and once I got forward emails for charity. I rarely get forward email so I don't mind to read it first before decided Maybe your husband just busy and don't have time to read it

Yes, my husband is always busy and he doesn't have time to read them. He is doing his research in Economics and Geography and the same time lecturing in a college. I never get forwards from unknown people, all from my friends and relatives. Yes, I also forward some nice emails once in a while. Thanks for the response.

I am definitely guilty of deleting forwards without reading them...my mother is known for passing on forwards no matter what - so I get a ton of them all at once - some political, some religious and some just plain dumb. So for the longest time I just deleted them - until recently, I told her that I really only like the really funny ones and to just send me those, so she has been, which helps, and I have been reading them. But pretty much, if the title doesn't look good - I delete it - too busy to read them all...

I also don't have the time to open all emails and read them. I think it is waste of time going through dump forward emails. Sometimes forward emails have a nice message to share. I forward those emails to some of my close friends. It is good that you told your mother openly about what you think. Hope your mom will take it in the right sense. Thanks for the resposne.

Hi daliaj,
I check the sender first, then the title, if it seems interesting, I go ahead and read it. I forward some to my friends if I think they will appreciate the message, otherwise, I delete them after I have checked. I must admit some are really nice pieces of advice and life lessons, those that I find worth keeping - I let them stay in my inbox for a while until I clean up which I do once a month.

Not really...most of the time I never read forwarded ,ails unless the subject line is very catchy...if the mails have images that take time to load then I never attempt seeing such mails...if the mail is on swine flu something that concerns me then I see such mails.

I guess it depends on the sender.
There are some people I know who send 'forwards' rarely. But when they do, it will be worth reading. But I almost always delete forwards sent by the frequent 'forwarders'...Especially those emails that mention forwarding to 18.5 people within 24 hours so that I can get rich.
There is a third scenario...when I get them forwarded to my work email address. In that case, I move them to a folder called "readables" - so that I have some reading material when I need to take a break.
