I do carry my favorite magazines and novels with me during long journeys and i travel in trains most of the time. Though I love reading and productively spend the idle time, I end up hurting my eyes in this process, especially when the train or us is moving. So do you read books while traveling? What do recommend for people like me to who end up with a terrible head ache because of reading in a moving vehicle/transport?

Most of my reading has been when I travel. You see, I read all the time. I have got into trouble for reading in class, at work, while attending meetings, and even at church(!) So, when I travel, it's my time - no one can feel offended that I'm not doing what I'm supposed to be doing. I find that I pack 2 or 3 books - a classic case of being over prepared! My advice - start wearing glasses, get a pain killler or two, practice reading while travelling - the more your eyes get used to the idea, the easier it will get....but please do not stop reading when you travel...You'd be cancelling one of the greatest pleasures of life!

hi divkris!^^ i would like to read while i'm traveling but i can't because i get nauseous and it makes me feel like throwing up. that's true for buses and other land vehicles. i don't get nauseous while reading inside a plane. ^^ i have tried reading a pocketbook while riding a bus. i would feel nauseous and my stomach would churn only after a few pages. sometimes if i really want to read, i would read a few pages then take a break until the nausea goes away and then read again. ^^;; but as much as possible i avoid doing it because it's bad for the eyes.

I get most of my reading done when I am traveling. I kind of liked when I used to ride an hour to work on a bus and then a half hour or so home on the metro. I got so much reading and other things done during my commute. I do not have any problem with reading when in a moving vehicle.

Hai divkris!Reading in a moving train will not hurt your eyes much as in a moving bus or car.I used to travel a lot in trains some six years before and I love to read magazines and novels by that time.It is a good time pass without any disturbance.May be you are getting your head ache because of the poor lighting.otherwise reading in a train will not be harmful.Cheers!

Yes I do a lot of reading when i am travelling. I carry novels, comic stories, spiritual books. I love reading spiritual books and prefer to read when i am travelling alone. when travelling with family we prefer to enjoy the time.

Hi! I always try to have some interesting reading with me while traveling. It also makes my eyes hurt, so i try to choose magazines, where is also a lot of pictures. Different pressure between reading text and looking at the pictures reduces pain in my eyes. I'm going to Spain the day after tomorrow and already have bought one GEO magazine to read and two Cosmopolitans to look at the pictures =) Jolly myLotting!

I usually make long journeys by plane, train, or bus, and I always have books in my bag. Last week I went down to the USA for a party, and I had a couple of books in my bag to read on the bus. I also take my little portable CD player and some music with me to listen to, while travelling.

Hello dear, like you, I travel a lot, but by plane. This symptom of headache happens on me as well, but by drinking a cup of coffee might help you relieving the headache. I do enjoy reading while travelling, it helps killing the time and keeping your mind busy with the knowledge. It is just perfect!

YES!! I get bored easily, and I am always reading a book or two, so I always have a book with me. It doesn't matter if I am just going to the store or on a trip that is hours long, I will have a book or two with me to read. I also love reading magazines, although I don't buy them as often when I am traveling. I used to get headaches from reading in the car, but it has never bothered me on the train or plane. I have no idea why!

Hi Divkris. I used to have the same eye trouble when reading while "moving" and such, so I now take along a sketch pad instead. It seems that when sketching my eyes don't get as strained or my head get so achey as when I read. If you like music, that would be another good alternative to reading. Or if you do a craft like knitting, etc. Karen

Oops! I forgot to mention one other alternative. If you have a portable DVD player, watching movies on your journey is also easier on the eyes than reading, and it helps pass the time well. :D

I love reading and in the past, I carry my favorite novels that I hadn't finished read it yet and try to read it in the cars. I was think it's better than sleep or do nothing. The result was I got the headache and feel sick because the vehicle is moving! Now I never do it again, I can't concentrate read anything in vehicle. I think better if we just read in static place, like in a room in sit position, etc. I ever read an article about it and it says, it happens because we try to read in static conditon (unmoving) but actually we move (the car/vehicle move) so it makes our brain a little distracted, confuse (I don't know how to explain it, but I hope you get my meaning). We try to focus to unmoving object while we and that object actually move

I take a book with me where ever I go because I never know when I will have down time. I take it to the doctor in case I have a long wait in the waiting room; I take it to a soccer game in case there is some down time (especially a lightening delay) but I usually end out talking to other parents; I take it anywhere I may have to wait. When I don't take a book with me I regret it because that ends out being the time that I needed it the most. Time goes by so much more quickly when reading. However, I do not read in the car. I feel I will get nauseous so I take a gravol and try to sleep. I really hate travelling but I will still carry a book with me "just in case".

I get motion sick if I read too much so I tend to craft instead, needlepoint or cross stitch

I really enjoy reading while I am traveling. I haven't ever traveled by train, except by subway while in a big city, so I am not sure how that would affect me. I have however read a book while someone else is driving a car, and it doesn't seem to bother me at all. I usually read while I am flying. This really helps to make the time pass, plus there isn't as much to see on a plane as there is when you are traveling by land. And you must stay seated most of the time, so there really isn't much else to do. Good luck to you in finding a remedy for your headaches while reading in a moving vehicle.

I don't. I'd rather look out in the window and enjoy the sights and sounds of the places I'm travelling. :-D

Hi divkris! I just took a trip to Florida and had both a book and magazines for the plane ride! I ended up not reading at all! The plane was noisy and I couldn't concentrate it I wanted to! I also had my CD player, which I listened to for about a minute and put away because the pilot said something and I couldn't hear him! So I ended up people watching instead! It really is kind of fun and since you get headaches reading while in motion you should try it! I sometimes get motion sick so reading will increase the chances and make it worse so it is really best that I don't even attempt to read anywhere but in my bed!

I love to read books while I am travelling, it is one way to really relax into a holiday or journey! During my busy daily routine at home, I never get much chance to read and I really enjoy it! So whenever I am away from home I always take more time out to read a book or two! :-) I do not have the problem of getting headaches while reading in a moving vehicle, but my wife starts to feel sick if she does . She has not found a cure for it yet!
