Han anyone had a relationship with a person with bipolar disorder?

I am currently in a relationship with a guy who has type one bipolar disorder. He is very hard work at present I think he has 'mania' if you know what I'm talking about!
He seems reluctant to see me, and wonder why that is. Is it him or his illness?
